Funny, I was just about to post this.

I have the latest version of his audigy drivers for Vista, if anyone wants them (they're 66 megs).

Just through skimming through that thread it seems asus have a range called xonar. There was another one mentioned but I can't remember the name of it.

Yeah but they're brutally expensive, I was thinking more in the budget performance range....sub 80 euro. All there seems to be is low end stuff, like C-Media, Trust, etc, then the mid range solely X-Fi's and Audigys, then at the top is the expensive X-Fi's and Xonar....and the Razer.

I remember seeing a philips sound card not too long ago. Don't know what price it was or what it was like though.

I wouldn't normally do it, and the odd time I would pledge to not supporting something and go ahead and buy it anyway, but this time, it just actually pissed me off and I really will look for another brand next time....

My X-Fi is only the xtreme audio version, I was serious contemplating taking it out, smashing it (with an optional golden shower - or what do you think - a picture of my x-fi half submerged into an unflushed toilet bowl? In a urinal in a public bathroom?) and posting the pictures on the creative forum. Don't have any spares though so...:D

What are good alternative sound solutions?

 From what I've read Auzentech are a good alternative. Full Vista support.
Edit: just read that it uses a Creative chip & driver, meh :(

I've been reading this on XS forums. Its the fact that he was looking for donations thats annoyed Creative. Why don't Creative just employ him, he's doing a better job than their team of a$$holes.

Yeah, they are still not allowing it for the most part, those drivers don't provide extra functionality, ju xp capabilities on vista.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,874 ✭✭✭✭PogMoThoin

The drivers are on the torrent sites, do Creative just think they'll go away. I actually had never heard of these drivers until this. Downloadin as we speak :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,357 ✭✭✭papu

They've pretty much shot themselves in the foot, thats pretty much declaring war on your own customers. Well over 1000 posts on the site now and links from everywhere. Hope it ruins the company, cant believe they'd be so stuipid

    To Whom it May Concern:

While it is not our place to condemn the decisions of Creative regarding this issue, our customers come first. That being said, it has come to our attention that many of our customers are not happy with the products Creative has released nor the support for those products. To wit, we have processed nearly 5,000 return orders within the past 48 hours. While it is not normally in our best interest to publically comment in a manufacturer's forum, the overwhelming concensus has left us little choice. As such, effective tommorow morning newegg.com will suspend sales of the sound cards in question, particularly those indicated as "Vista compatible", pending an investigation into the matter. Those of you whom recently ordered such a card will still recieve your product as indicated in any relevant conversations. While we regret this abrupt decision, it has been deemed neccessary to protect the interest of our consumers. We welcome contact from Creative as soon as is possible so that we may resolve this issue.

    Thank you,

hahah i found there financial update, going bust quite quickly , check the Net income on bottom of page 5 comparing 2006 to 2007.
Earnings per share is only 9 cent last year compared to 1.10 2 years ago
    oopshttp://www.creative.com/corporate/investor/files/ER/Q2FY08_Earnings_Release.pdf
check the Sales also there going down seriously from 2006.

EDIT: btw this was only a quick glance over the financial statement, there could be perfectly acceptable reasons why the figures have fallen

where can I get daniel_k's drivers? are they only on torrent?

In fairness, creative where right. If anyone actually reads the thread, creative had no problem letting daniel_k modify the drivers, but they took exception to him profiting from it. He was taking their intellectual property, modifying it then asking for donations. daniel_k was in the wrong in asking for money to sell someone else software. Also, creative had enabled features that where meant for the XFI only, daniel_k enabled them for the audigy class of soundcards which is wasn't meant for.

That is not to say that creative handled this matter well either. In the age of web 2.0 creative should of known that any open statement against opensource or freedom of code would spread like wildfire across the internet. If I was creative I would of contacted daniel_k and told him to take down the donation links and maybe hire him to work for creative.

I find it strange that they are starting to create products for the competition, iPod. They must be realising that they are starting to struggle and are reaching out in any direction to keep the money coming in...
