sure go for it if you feel it can help have a professional explain things to you and focus on assessing your specific needs...

if you do decide to go i'd would recommend doing a bit of prep work before hand, so you get value for money with the time you have

record a food intake diary, take a sample of a couple of days in the week, recording what and how much you eat / drink as you consume it during the day (little pocket notepad is perfect), be honest and note down everything even if just a snack ;) it is also good to note down when and where / who you are with (as it can help highlight situations where others or location my dictate your choices)

also take a not of your energy expenditure, what days you were exercising, what you were doing and how intense...

if you want to look into it more yourself beforehand a good book on the matter which is laid out pretty well is (amazon link):
Complete Guide to Sports Nutrition by Anita Bean [A&C Black]

chapters on parnell st had it in stock last time i was in so you can flick through it there if you are passing

you could also post your diet log, training log and goals here, before you spend the money on a nutritionist. Heads here can help you along.

yeah i know, I'm a regular reader to this forum, and many a person have posted their diet\training log & goals here, for the heads here to give opinion, so another post like of the same, will more or less retrieve the same response.
No offense to the heads giving their responses.

Just that ive seen no post recommending\talking about nutritionist, so i thought ill ask the question.

yeah though of a log of my in\out food take, exercise etc would be handy, also was tipped to write down who I was with during my food intake, as that can have a affect of your food consumption behaviour.

have a book quite similiar to what you recommend, the one with tim henman on the front cover, v.good read and reference book....well recommend it!!!!

I went to the dnc a few years ago. I found the nutritionist very good, she really helped me with my weird eating issues and helped me see that there is no such thing as the perfect diet. IMO the advise was common sense but it was what I really needed at the time.
Also while it was quite expensive, for me it was worth the personal attention - I still refer to and use the advise now if I get messed up again. Also heard that another nutritionist (Paula Mee from the health show that used to be on RTE) has joined the clinic now. Agree with the advise here though keep a food diary in advance & you can mail it before attending the clinic so it saves time and money! :)

If you do decide to go the nutritionist route (which I don't think is neccessary btw, but it up to your) then make sure you bring a food log for the laast 2 weeks or month to him or her. It'll give them a good starting point to help you from. And you might even notice your bad habits/eating patterns yourself before you go and decide it's something that you can fix yourself!
