I had a visitor to my gym today and he's opened a specialist shop on the corner of moore street/parnell street. in the moore street mall and will have it fully stocked by next week if all goes as planned. warrior mma is the name of the shop.

Im delighted as im sick of buying mma gear on the net or 2nd rate gear in other shops, he's told me he's going to have fairtex boxing gloves and shin pads, rogue mma gloves, gum shields etc.. he also told me he's open to suggestions from his customers.

also selling mma merchandise such as tap out shirts and the like.

if anyone is there before me let us know what its like..

this is another positive step in mma becoming mainstream in ireland(best of luck with it)

I buy stuff on the internet in dollars, so much cheaper than I would expect to pay in Dublin

True but you cant try the stuff on, or have to worry about delivery or getting stung on tax!

valid points, havent had delivery issues with internet buying yet, tax could be a problem and I would prefer to try things on first.

Wrestlemania in the Stephens Green shopping center has been selling MMA t-shirts, DVD's and gloves for a few years now. Was in the shop recently and the woman said they were selling more UFC merchandise than wrestling stuff - fact.I know their is a million plus people in Dublin but don't know if their's enough demand for 2 shops though.

Yeah but its all poor quality stuff, unknown brands and crappy shorts etc..thats the 1st thing i asked this lad, is it the good mma gear.
i was in the wrestling shop and there was only crappy shorts and cheapo mma gloves, no shin pads or gumshields or jockstraps that i could see.

anyway its good to have an mma shop rather than a wrestling shop selling mma gear that they know nothing about, thats my take on it.

Corner of Moore St. and Parnell St. deadly - I wonder is he doing phone unblocking too :D

Thanks for the head's up Paul, like you I'm sick to death of getting second rate stuff or ordering offline with the risk of being stung at customs.

You guys are talking about poor quality gear from online shops, or being stung with extra costs, but have you ever ordered from www.fightlord.com or gear.mmaireland.com? I cant speak for Fightlord but Kokoro keeps stock of both Vangaard and Cusley in the gym. So when you order from the website its more than likely only travelling from Drumcondra.

Edit: It is great though that theres an MMA shop in town now.

He popped into the gym last night with a poster. Hope it goes well for him the lads were all interested anyway.

A lot more people than you might think don't have access to or aren't bothered by the internet! It's always nice to see something before you buy.

Well I got absolutely ass raped by customs on my last online purchase from the TapouT people so I won't be ordering off line again - feck that!.

I hope he does well, as MMA can only grow he should be getting in at the right time. When is he opened for business ??

" I got absolutely ass raped ". You do have a way with words Mairt :)

It must be the luck of the draw- I've ordered from Fairtex, Sprawl, Nogi and MMAstop and never been hit by customs at all, and I've ordered quite a bit of stuff over the years.

A lot of what is for sale from UK or Irish on-line stores seems to have a huge mark-up on it. I appreciate that there are probably reasons for that, but I'd still rather buy from the US. The dollar is so weak it's worth the risk in my opinion.

With that said, I think Roper's completely correct that there are plenty of people who just don't buy online, I think this shop could do OK out of that. One difference between it at the Wrestlemania store in St Stephen's Green is that it looks to be doing top-quality protective gear (gloves, pads etc). There'll be a market for that.

Was in dublin today went to that shop was very impressed. Got a new pair of gloves best quality iv bought so far. Has sprawl, tapout, warior and wand rash guards ect all big names . The stuff was cheap aswell thumbs up from me:)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 255 ✭✭Scramble

I called in at the weekend and bought some t-shirts. They do have quite a wide selection of stuff in there, and obviously it's not at 'internet' prices, it's reasonable and I hope the business takes off for them.

Dessie in the shop said they are waiting on getting in Fairtex and Twins gear, I think.

    You guys actually wear tapout??

I have a pair of shorts and a hoodie from 2002 that I wear training the odd time but I'd never wear tapout in public.

    Peace

Why not just say "You guys are so 5 years ago and tacky etc. etc."

This thread is about a new business, and new businesses are hard enough to make stick, so why don't you all keep it positive for once?

If you've got nothing good to say.....

I hope this shop does really well!! I wish them every success.

    I'm not embarrassed by MMA.

I'm totally ashamed of the light TapouT (who are homophobic) shine on MMA. Its the typical UFC, kimbo slice worshipping, non-American-booing, USA! chanting, pit bull owning, beanie wearing, tribal tattoo having, goatie clad, tough guy image that drags MMA down to "ultimate fighting" and the lowest common denominator.

I dont wear their clothes because it is a big sign that says "Yeah, Human Cockfighting is everything you think it is, b"it*h - step up".

I dont like it for the same reason I laugh at "Never Back Down". Now I understand that most people dont see it in the same light I do. I just dont get why people would by Tapout stuff instead of their own gym's stuff.

    Peace

Okay, I don't wear Tapout for the same reason. I understand what you were getting at now it just didn't come across that way in the original post. You shouldn't hate goatie clad people, although lately I'm full-bearded.

I got some quality NOGI shorts this morning, selling them for 50 each.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 757 ✭✭✭FiannaGym.com

Yea ye see thats what I mean about them looking different to other people. To me they dont look nice, they look "mean" and "extreme" and that if you wear them you'll "never back down". Which isnt the look I'm going for.

Regards how the stuff looks, surely your own MMA gyms stuff looks nicer!

    Peace

I personally don't buy a tapout tshirt because its a "tapout" tshirt.I buy a tapout tshirt because some of them have awesome designs.I would only be happy to buy the same tshirt even if it wasnt tapout.I do see where you're coming from though.

I was in Wrestling Mania yesterday and they stock Tapout, Sinister, Affliction, One More Round, Death Clutch, Clinch , Hostility, Warrior Wear and Sprawl so I would imagine cowzerp that these are good quality based on the fighters currently wearing these brands.
I picked up 2 pairs of shorts and two sinister t shirts for €90 What a steal
I was also surprised to see they are now stocking womens mma gear which really shows how the sport is developing
I agree we should always continue to support our gyms and wear our own brands but these shops help to raise the awareness of MMA in Ireland and draw the masses to the sport which is still only growing

Having money to pay fighters, or being owned by fighters, doesn't mean their stuff is any use. And especially with brands that don't make training gear, like Affliction, its ok to judge their quality just by looking at it...because their tshirts are ugly...and surprisingly expensive.

Still though that's a good selection and its great that they have stuff for girls.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 763 ✭✭✭goo

Oh, and what shorts did you buy? If you got two pairs along with two tshirts for 90 then their prices must be fairly cheap.

I've built a bit of a collection over the last while and I where them every where more I go more or less, I don't like "the american arrogant" aspect but love the designs and the T-shirts, funnily enough every one in work thinks that that "Tapout" are a heavy metal band !!:)
