    Hello my names Jason Kellly

For those interested in the sport of Kettlebells.I am bringing over the 7 time World Champion "Vasilijs Ginko" in kettlebell lifting to do a two day National coaching award in June,in Dublin.

This coaching award is the gold standered in the sport,as its the I.U.K.L ( International Union of Kettlebell Lifting ) the main govering body in the World for the sport.Along with supplying the No1 kettlebell,as used by the professional sportsmen & women is now in Ireland and in all weights.

I am one of the few in the U.K to be at International level in this sport and have been trained in Latvia by Vasilijs Ginko and am also the Chief technical coach for the A.I.K.L.F ( All Ireland Kettlebell Lifting Federation ) as approved by Latvia & Russia.

    <SNIP>
    Thank you........J

Argos are now selling kettlebells. They still have the 16 day moneyback guarantee, I was thinking of getting one just to try. You can also make handles to put normal weights on.

That looks pretty cool, can't find much on the net about it.

    Looking forward to your website.

Although I haven't trained with Kettle Bells, I'm not sold on this whole thing Tbh.

And it does seem rather expensive for something which might just turn out to be a fad.

However I'm around long enough to be open minded about most things, is there a training group in Dublin where I can check out Kettle Bells?.

If you want to check out the Kettlebells, have a look at www.powerseekers.com until I get mine on the go.There are many differnt versions of the kettlebells, all I can say is that if they arent the correct / offical shape....injurys can happen. You wont find an olympic bar bought of Argos being used in an Olympic comp because there are professional standerds, its exactly the same for the sport of kettlebells.

The fad is hundreds of years old....the main reason for the Eastern blocks domination of several sports types is due to the kettlebell.Along with the fact that English Premier Football teams use them for years,Rugby league & Union eg The All Blacks along with the NFL in America........Amer Khan the boxer and with hundreds of other elite sports men and women in the UK

Combat sports men have used them since ancient Greece for wrestling,up to modern day MMA martial arts use them..........so a fad it isn't,its just some people are far behind on high level sports training.......

Actions speak louder than words in this sport,as there will be an Irish team competing ( fingers crossed ) in the next amature games this August in Latvia.
Along with the fact, for the 1st time ever the World Championships being held out side of Russia ( where they have 300,000 competing in this fad ? for years ) will take place in London this year,as well..........

Also it is very close to becoming an Olympic sport. So all I'm doing is trying to help out the sports men and women of Ireland to get the same info that the top sports countries in the world are getting.

Can any one in Ireland swing 2 x 32 kgs over there head for ten mins and get a result of 120 in time frame or snatch 1 x 32 over there head for the same time frame, with a result of 210.........thats what a sports man can do in Russia........not a bad foundation for any sports person.........

But each to there own,all the best.........J

Bullsh!t. What sports are we talking about anyway?

The above mentioned "western" teams and sports might use them, but that doesn't mean they're giving them the edge. Hell all of the above mentioned use traditional barbells too. Maybe THAT'S why they're winning? or maybe it's their skill. Or training. Or a combination of ALL of the above. But you're right of course, kettlebells is the reason.

I understand you're trying to promote your business and as a result will extol the benefits of using kettlebells, but don't try and peddle it off as the answer to everyone's problems to people who don't know better.

I love kettlebell training, but how much cash are we talking here for the training?

    Just weighing up the options

    Is it?

I'd say what you're trying to do is promote a business on the back of fancy claims about this "revolutionary" Russian training system which can make you stronger, fitter, better looking, more virile, clean your house, feed your cat AND give you a reach around, happy ending optional.

As I said, I've no problem with people trying to promote their business or get ahead, that's not why I'm being so blunt, but when you make claims as sensational as yours, be sure the more experienced members here will call you out to back them up.

Are you sure its close to being an olympic sport, I don't think its even a recognised sport with the IOC (while DanceSport is).

I don't see Russian men massively dominate any sport these days since the fall of the USSR, maybe they are focusing too much on the kettlebells and not enough time on their sport:)

I'd say the more likely cause of their previous domination was pharmaceutical advantages:rolleyes:

Hmmm just thinking a bit further about this one... The Eastern Block "dominated" certain sports (still waiting for examples of which sports) because of their kettlebells. But what about the sports they didn't dominate?? Maybe they spent TOO much time training with kettlebells, and if that was the case then I'm sure we could argue about how kettlebell training has a negative impact on sporting performance.

Hmmm the eastern bloc countries dominated certain sports because they chose athletes at a young age that were physically suited to those sports, and trained them as professionals. Not to mention pharmaceutical help ;)

I'm actually interested in trying kettlebells but making these huge claims for them is a bit off.

Man, kettle-bells are so yesterday, club-bells are where it's at now & I predict heavy slinkys will be the non-too-distant future of functional training.

Of those to post here, who has spent time training with the kettlebell?

I understand that many of the claims and myths surrounding this method of training are a little bloated and some may be complete fiction, but all myths have a modicum of truth in there somewhere.

I started training with them over a year ago, one, because I wanted to see what all the hype was about, and two, because I was at a stage where i was forced to get as much of my training done from home.

I since adopted them as my primary training tool. I still return to the barbell for pure strength cycles every now and again and enjoy bodyweight training. Have a go, spend a few weeks learning and practicing the kettlebell lifts (which are akin to olympic lifts), substitute a dumbbell if you like, it's not the same and tends to be a little awkward.

    All the best

PS I WILL be at the seminar and am very much looking forward to it.
