Broken Toe

    Hi all

I broke my toe on beside my big toe 9 weeks ago. Its a displaced toe fracture of the philange, right at the joint.

It is still fairly uncomfortable but I can drive, walk and start light jogging yesterday.

I'm just wondering whether anyone has had the same problem and how long did it take to recover.

I'm hoping to be playing football by the start of May.

    Thanks

Have you spoken to a doctor/ physio about it?

    Sorry, should have mentioned that.

Yes, I've done the whole hospital/fracture clinic bit.

I'd have expected to be able to put foot to ball by now but perhaps I'm healing slower now as I'm 32.

I'm really looking to see if anyone has had any experience with this? How did it take to get back and so on?

All the stuff I find on the web says it can take 6-10 weeks to heal.

If its not much better by next week, I'll call the clinic anyway.

(( Seeing as this is injury experience discussion it's all good, first person to mention ANY kind of possible course for cure gets whomped for a week or two ))

    Hey,

i have broken the big toe on my left foot once and on my right foot twice. Each one took about 6 weeks to fully heal each time, but by 4 weeks in it was pretty much better, just took the final two before i could get back to the spot that injured me!

Maybe give the clinic a quick call and ask them over the phone if healing may be delayed due to age?

Broke my big toe 4 times in the past - it became very weak and didn't heal properly - so my advice to you is be careful and don't push too hard. Check back with the clinic and don't risk reinjuring it!! Mine is perfectly healed now and never gives any problems :D

I think the OP revised that age figure from 94 to 32 while you weren't looking :D

OP I've had fractures which took longer than the normal six weeks to heal, and some parts of the body have a weaker supply of blood than other's so take longer to heal.

As D and G'em have said, give your fracture clinic a call expressing your concerns about the recovery time, but at nine weeks I wouldn't be overly concerned as small joints can be a bitch to heal.

Another concern I've had with broken toes over the year's (nothing like kickboxing and landing kicks on elbows to knacker your toes) is slight deformaties of the joints. I've done both big toes and still suffer some stiffness and tenderness at times.

Once you have normal blood flow to your toe (after the joint) your not looking at anything too serious. No numbness - pins & needs - coldness - or pinch your toe at the nail, your toe will go white, but should immediately return to its normal colour after you release the presure, thats a fair indication of proper blood flow.

Finally, unlike breaking an arm, shoulder etc your ankles and more so your big toe bear's all the weight of your body in a tiny joint - just remember this when your a little impatient at your recovery time.

    Thanks for all the replies.

I'll 'tough' it out for a while longer.

I fractured my left big toe yesterday, got it x-rayed & the doc confirmed it was a fracture just in behing the "knuckle" of the toe. My only problem now is i'm going to 22hour dance music festival in germany in exactly 7 days. Is there anyway of speeding up recovery? or am i f*cked??
