Would this not be a better choice than whey outside post workout times?

Perhaps, although whole protein would probably be better again.

The only casein shake I know of is Cassilan90 which tastes like crap and mixes absolutely terribly so be warned.

Another pointless question to confirm something you read?

Quick answer in theory yes, but beef is even better

It is pointless. I never complain about people asking stuff (because I do a lot too) but threads like this are dumb. I googled 'casein protein' and got Wikipedia as the first result. I read the article and read
In addition to being consumed in milk, casein is used in the manufacture of adhesives, binders, protective coatings, plastics (such as for knife handles and knitting needles), fabrics, food additives and many other products. It is commonly used by bodybuilders as a slow-digesting source of amino acids as opposed to the fast-digesting whey protein, and also as an extremely high source of glutamine (post-workout). Another reason it is used in bodybuilding is because of its anti-catabolic effect, meaning that casein consumption inhibits protein breakdown in the body.

Now, I ask WHY you had to ask us would casein be a good idea, then tell us you know where to get it, and finally say
Obviously wholefoods are better but i was comparing one form of supplement to another

Why?! You were complaining about whey protein in another thread, unless I'm mistaken! If you want to take supps, take them. If you don't, don't!! But at least research the basics before posting up, and if you do post up, treat the advice given with respect, and acknowledge that you know less than the mainstays on here.

    why not

Because for somebody in your position there are much more productive avenues that should be explored and exhausted first.

One could argue that by supplementing you're just re-enforcing the lazy habits that has you in your current state.

So, why are you looking to supplement?
