Guys with wider than average hips

    Howaya

Basically, my hips are a bit wider than general, makin me look out of proportion

Im grand when im dressed but sometimes I get really self concious about it

I never started any muscle building until about 5 months ago, but for as long as I can remember I cycled a lot, every day

In school it was 4 times, 2 being up steep hills, very fast

So maybe that built up my hips, with the rest of my body bein "unbuilt"

My legs are big, as opposed to fat, and they're stronger than most, as when I got an assessment they were startin me on a 20kg press, but I wasnt feelin any resistance til 40+

Is this a common thing? And would ye say building up my abs and upper body will even out my proportions?

    Thanks in advance

I'd say lots of lat and delt work would help you out, chins, rows, OH presses.

    Thanks

Im due for an assessment tomorrow so ill post my measurements

I wasnt really doin much upper body stuff, and it was all on machines
So im switchin to free weights, concentratin on my bi/triceps, delts, traps and lats
also, my obliques to add mass to my waist

    delts = deltoids ;)

Don't forget lat work too, particularly chins. Great exercise in general and people generally agree that they're also the best for adding width to your lats (giving you a broader back and broader looking shoulders too).

Maybe it is in your head? What height and weight are you too

Measure the cicumference at its widest on the hips, and your waist at its thinnest. My thinnest waist is 31" just above my belly button , think my hips are 36 or 37". I am 5'11'' and around 75kg.

    Do you find jeans tight?

Are you a veggie or eat a lot of soy? I heard it can increase estrogen levels, so you might be depositing fat more in "feminine" places, like beer tits on men, hops contains estrogen, many boob enhancement pills are hop based.

ZMA supplements are said to increase testosterone, but I do not know if that is the problem.

oops! minus delts, plus lats there!
    [my postins so crap lately]

    rubadub
I took a pic of myself, and got pics of a CGI man and woman and made them all silhouettes and the comparison is embarassin :(

    neways.... im 5'11'', 65kg, about 10% bf

Dont find jeans tight, just odd fitting, like im between 2 sizes
Im gna try a pair of 30" n see how they are [wear 32R atm]

Not a veggie, and dont have any soy stuff.

I dont think fat is the prob, cos I could lose that, its more the muscle over/around my hips, probably built up from years of cyclin

but Testosterone could be an issue too, as my jaw isnt very wide yet

But im only gone 20, could it be an issue at my age???

Ill ask me doc about that

    Thanks for the replies

C'mon man.... at 65kg and 5'11 your hips can't be THAT wide...??

It could just be your bone structure tbh, and if that's the case there's sweet FA you can do!!!

If it's bothering you that much dowhat Trib said. Lots of delt and lat width work. You'd probably just benefit from more muscle overall tbh.

    +1

OP, you probably have normal hips i.e. bone structure but no muscle up top... leading you to believe you are out of proportion. Horse a few steaks into yourself and hit the gym hard on the exercises listed above.

    I assume chins are chin-ups?

    Mumbo jumbo.

I just use chins to refer to either chin ups or pull ups, either is good but with your palms facing toward you will put some more emphasis on the biceps.

I think the OP confused "chins" with chin-ups and took it to mean jaw definition .
We all start somewhere I guess :)

I agree with the rest, OP (Original Poster), start hitting the lats with chin-ups etc and things will proportion themselves out.

I think he was talking of testosterone and maybe that he hadn't fully developed yet. Or that he was thinking he was low in testosterone as his jaw was now wide.

I have heard steroids can make a womans jaw more square/masculine. Plenty of hits about it (true or not) http://www.google.com/search?tab=vw&q=testosterone%20jaw

Jeez im not a bleedin newb, i know what OP means!!

And I mentioned my jaw in relation to my testosterone levels
As in its not very wide, which could be a sign of low test.

Or it could be a sign of plain old genetics. I really wouldn't look too far into that tbh. Before you know it you'll be shoving fingers up your arse to check your prostate!
