Press up stands - yay or nay??

    Hey
    I was wondering what people think about using press up stands?? I use them at home but I tried to do press-ups without them fairly recently and found it was quite painful on my wrists??
    Should I scrap them??:confused:

    What are press up stands? Are they the 2 handle things that lift you further off the ground so you can get your chest down past your hands when doing press ups?

    I use them, I find them better than regular push ups, mostly because they are easier on the hands and wrists(as you said). Being able to dip below your hands must be an advantage too, ill say yay

    Edit: I misread the OP slightly, bu ti still say yay

    Thats what I thought you were talking about. I'd say yeh use them because you get lower than normal press ups so it makes it tougher. If I did regular press ups they're what I would use. You can't really do tricep press ups on them though.

    Is it a dis-advantage if its making my wrists weaker???

    Are tricep press ups the ones when you put your hands on the edge of a chair and lower yourself up and down???

    If they are not free in the gym i just use a pair of dumbbells - i always do them with the elbows tucked into the ribs/hips for sets of 20reps.

    The basics are best for most

    I think that you are talking about dips there, they also work your triceps and chest (depending on the way you do them).

    Tricep puch ups are like regular push ups, but both of your hands are together in the centre of your chest instead of shoulder width apart.

    Do a press up holding dumbbells in hands so that you have to tense your mid section hard to stop rolling arms up towards head or down towards feet.

    At the top of the press up row backwards with your right arm, so that your left arm is only in contact with the ground (through the dumbbell in that hand).

    Return right arm (and that dumbell) to floor. Row backwards with left arm, then return dumbbell to floor.

    This is one rep.

    Repeat reps for something like 3 sets of 10 reps, or optionaly until smoke starts coming out of your ears.

    I think 3 sets of 10 with 10kg per arm almost ripped me in half the last time I tried these.

    I tried that last nigt............holy **** its harder than normal press ups!!
    I think i need to work on my triceps........
