... nice, no doubt about it, mojo coming out the yin-yang...

    ...but...

...I'd still go for a modern one made by someone other than Gibson who I'm tired of pimping :)

You should get a '56 Bacchus instead!:D

The Earth's core would implode with such mojo :p

And I have another convert too :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,817 ✭✭✭✭Dord

You don't need to convert me, I am wise to the ways of Japanese production. :)

Although, I don't have a Bacchus or Bacchii? (is that a word?) :p

You need to get one. Seriously.

There are a couple of Japanese L2000's on the u-box at very tasty prices, sod all info around on them though. I think ESP made them before they started the Tribute range in Korea.

    Intriguing....

Nah, I don't have the space for any more instruments. I am gettin' me a new amp soon though, Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0! :pac::pac::pac:

Nah, it was nice for sure, but there's just no doubt at all that modern build methods and finishes are better, finishing (ie fretting, etc not the paint) is better, you're counting on individually perceptive or ethereal and magic qualities to raise it above the level of a high quality modern equivalent.

Plus the neck was like a friggin oar :p

Deadly, but there's no reason something built this year wouldn't be better if you know where to look.

    How much, Doc? Me likey.:pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

They are offensively priced, over 2k. I picked up my older version with the flame top and pretty much everthing else the same second hand for about €700. Wonderful, wonderful guitar but jaysus is any guitar really worth over 2k?

Edit -> Although it was funny to see Ancient1's face when he heard the Telecaster that hides under the skin of it :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 586 ✭✭✭The_g-man

Not when you can buy it in a different colour for €700 it's not.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Although to put it in perspective, the Les Paul costs over twice the price of the posh Empire, so who's to say what's right in this crazy, crazy world :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,817 ✭✭✭✭Dord

    '56 Les Paul for €4K? :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

"...over twice..." - 5.5k for a single P90 LP junior slab body

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,817 ✭✭✭✭Dord

    ahhh right. LOL

You didn't say it was a Jr. so I presumed it was a standard. ;)

I'd love a Jr., but tbh I'd rather buy a new one for a lot less.

Ah you'd expect they had the pixies sprinke mojo dust on the juniors as well as the standards ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,817 ✭✭✭✭Dord

    Of course!

Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day has about 25 or 30 LP Jr's!
    Lucky baxtard! :D

Never really got to play anything considered truly vintage. The closest would be my mates SG which I think is a '73 . Something very right and cool about it though. Small guard, walnut finish, mini 'buckers. Its been through hundreds of gigs in his 15 or so years of ownership. The neck finish is practically gone at this stage, frets still ok though. It stinks of mojo and I love it, just feels so 'worn in'.
New guitars/old guitars- as long as theyre good I'll have 'em all thank you very much;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,896 ✭✭✭fish-head

Is that the SG Junior in Wunjo Guitars? I loved that guitar!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,817 ✭✭✭✭Dord

There's something very nice about a guitar that is a bit worn in. One of my Aria basses is from the mid 80's and has seen a bit of use but definitely no abuse. The neck is wonderous on it and it gets many comments from those who play it. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

It all comes back to Bacchus... I'm like a broken record now... sorry :p

Them employ someone to file these "side scallops" between every fret so the neck feels like an old played in friend before it ever leaves the factory.

    bg2.jpg

Oh how I love them all :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 513 ✭✭✭boycey

Doc I cant believe you even took a photo!!

You are BACCHUS FANBOY NUMERO UNO :D

Impressive attention to detail none the less.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

I'm even beginning to piss myself off :D

Should say, there was a Fender custom shop strat there, a Mary Kay relic... friggin beautiful, wasn't mad on the V shape neck profile but jaysus what a stunner :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 746 ✭✭✭Vim Fuego

Speaking of Bacchus, where can you buy their LP models? Guitar Japan still has last year's line-up on the site and I can barely even read U-Box, let alone find and buy anything on it

Send guitarjapan an email, they can get them in for... wait for it... $1250 :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 513 ✭✭✭boycey

My next completely necessary purchase was going to be one of the new Cornford Roadhouse 30 watt heads, a LP shaped Bacchus has wormed its way into my subconcious though. Wonder how :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 746 ✭✭✭Vim Fuego

Hmm, I've emailed GJ before and heard nothing from them. What address are you using? The one I have is guitarjapan2004@yahoo.co.jp.

Just a heads up. I've also found a Swiss chap on ebay who always has a few Bacchi for sale. The LPs seem to go for around €900 but he always has them up for auction rather than at a buy-it-now price which is annoying, though there's rarely ever more than one bid and the shipping is obviously a good bit cheaper. I just can't bring myself to buy a Gibbo these days so the Duke is on the radar bigtime.

If you were buying from Switzerland would you have to pay customs & VAT, is it technically in the EU?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 746 ✭✭✭Vim Fuego

Yeah, I'm guessing you would stung for VAT.

It's great that a thread titled "So today I played a 1956 Les Paul..." can turn into a Bacchus thread.

I have a Patrick Eggle Berlin, a Tokai LS200, a Tokai ES100 a Bacchus 04G Studio and some other yoke plus I have owned a Fender american Strat and a Gibson LP standard and out of them all the Bacchus is the best. I have only had it a couple of months and if I could keep only one guitar the Eggle would give it a run for it's money as I have had it for 15 years but the Bacchus is better.

Yeah, I used that address. Received this the week before last
    Thank you for your interest.
We will confirm the availability of DUKE-MASTER.
The price will be $1,280 + shipping cost + might be customs duty.
    Best regards.
    Ryutaro Tsurumaki

The Swiss guy, I am very aware of :)

A lot of his stuff is second hand though, from what I can see. Guitarjapan deal in dollars (wahoo!) so a brand new Duke is €813 at todays's exchange rate  Add shipping of about €100 and that's just a ****ing ridiculous price for that guitar, even including import duty.

    That's just ****in nuts :D

I got the Bacchus P from them, they were great to deal with and as soon as I can raise the cash, I'd really like to get a Duke while the exchange rates are so favourable.

Found another Japan-based eBay store with good feedback with the bacchai. This could be the winner for my Duke business: http://search.ebay.com/?fcid=99&fpos=&sass=hisashi0731&gbr=1&save=Save

Flippin' Guitar Japan's ebay store doesn't even have most of their stuff: http://stores.ebay.com/Japanese-Guitar-Shop and they haven't emailed me back. They must only like Doctor J :pac:

Hisashi is a good guy too. I've only heard good things about him. I know him from the Tokai board(if that can be classed as knowing someone!!)

    I want this :(http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Bacchus-Japan-Hand-Made-PJ-Bass-Wood-Line-Black-Oil_W0QQitemZ230221285928QQihZ013QQcategoryZ4713QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Im surprised how many of you guys that post on here play guitar and bass too.
I know thats not a shockin revelation but after all these years Ive never had the urge to buy a bass, hardly ever touch an accoustic even. Neither excite me in the way electric guitars do. My loss :o

I started on bass and bass is still the instrument that I enjoy the most. I only started playing guitar out of frustration with guitarists :pac:
