It's an excellent price, for a Upscaling DVD player of this quality, (makes normal DVD's look nearly as good as HD) and includes a HDMI cable. I got one last time round for €90. Got 10 HD DVDs thou with that offer.

Very happy with my purchase. Considering a 2nd...:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 725 ✭✭✭djfattony2000

If you need a dvd player, or even if you don't, get this.

    The upscaler is actualy brilliant.

Anyone send off for the 5 free DVDs from the offer a few weeks ago i.e. €90 with 9 DVDs: http://media.play.com/trailers/elec/hddvd/5_bonus_hddvd.pdf

Hmm, after deliberating too long the last time ibood had this, I decided to buy one.
First time using iBood....how long for delivery?
Was between this and the 360 add-on....the included discs and reported upscaling quality swung it for me.

    Thanks kearnsr.

Did anyone ever find a region hack for this player? Also I see someone in the other thread mentioned a USB port...given that it doesn't do .avi, what's the USB for?

Am i being mad or are you all buying out of date technology?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,204 ✭✭✭Kenny_D

Whether its out of date it still functions as a fantastic dvd upscaler and a very good hd-dvd player. And since the fail of HD-DVD the price of hd-dvds has dropped to under €10 for a lot of films so its nice to be able to pick up some high def movies nice and cheap

You are being mad if you do not see the bargain in this for high definition playback plus quality upscaling of all region 2 DVD's.

It is just a pity it doesn't play region 1 DVD's and Divx/Xvid. I always felt this was it's weakness, it forces you to keep your old DVD player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,575 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

Correct although I am hopeful that a method will be available to make it multi region (maybe a few months) so that I can sell my Oppo player.

is the ep30 region free for hd-dvds? im pretty sure its stuck to R2 for standard dvds, can anyone shed some light?

am i right in thinking HD-DVD is region free?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,204 ✭✭✭Kenny_D

Hd-dvd is region free yes but it will be locked to region 2 regular dvds. It's sold out now btw

All we need now is a thread that will hunt out the bargains on HD Disks.

I already got a couple on Amazon.com with reasonable shipping because of the exchange rate.

Come on lets get em before their gone..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,736 ✭✭✭ch750536

But they are going to stop making the players, therefore the disks. That means you will still need a blu ray if you want the latest movies surely?

Not meaning to poo-poo your find, just pointing out to anyone who perhaps didn't know this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,575 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

Only if you are interested in High Definition for new films, I will be buying DVD's for years to come until the BR market matures enough to decide on functionality and the prices come down. They are not going to stop releasing new films on DVD.

I have a PS3 for the BluRay movies and only bought the HD DVD player in order to pick up any bargain price movies which there is plenty of by the looks of things.

Also ya can never have enough gadgets. :D

I might be missing something here but I am hungover, are the DVD's region 1 or 2, can't seem to find it listed against any of the films I checked.

I think I'm getting there, am I right then that the player in the OP will play any HD-DVD but only region 2 DVD's which I really hope as I bought one yesterday.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 18,809 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kimbot

Yeah, like my HD-DVD addon for the xbox. It was bought in the US and will work to the region of the console when it comes to normal DVD's!

So it would be region 2 alright.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 96 ✭✭Hennessy

Does it really not play Divx and MPG 4 etc? I bought one thinking that for the last few years that would have been included as standard? If it does not then if some one who is Dublin based wants mine they are welcome to it at cost.

I'd be more of a .avi type :p I was only upgrading as my old Sony will play Divx but not some other .avi, the reason been as I understand it, they are MPG4 or something.

    Bummer!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,016 ✭✭✭✭vibe666

if you want a real bargain upscaling DVD player that plays DivX's and (quite literally) any video or audio format you care to try and find then get down to your local gamestop and buy yourself an original xbox (i.e. not an Xbox360) for €20 and start reading up on how to put xbox media centre on it. you can get component leads off ebay for a couple of quid that will allow xbmc to run at 1080i and upscale any videos to that resolution too.

and all for 20 quid plus maybe another tenner inc. shipping for the leads.

Good price, but according to both avforums and hotukdeals, they're a very bad company for dealing with:

Apols if mentioned already, but noticed adverts in today's papers that Sony
will give you €150 trade-in for any old HD-DVD player when you buy a
blu-ray player. Check local Sony shops for details.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 600 ✭✭✭Cocoon

I got an update from Ibood today.

    Dear iBOOD’ian,

On the 15th of March you have placed an order for the Toshiba EP-30 HD DVD-players including 5 HD movies on iBOOD.com Unfortunately the delivery of these DVD-players has been delayed. We are glad to inform you that the Toshiba products will be dispatched tomorrow, which means your order should arrive at the end of this week. Unfortunately a small batch will be dispatched in the beginning of next week, which means your order should arrive in the middle of next week.

    Our apologies for the delay.

Ha, wonder if that would count for the xbox hd-dvd attachment as well... you can get them in argos for 50 bucks.... of course they might want the xbox360 too :D

The original thread is locked: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055242090&highlight=ibood, so I am posting here.

I got the HD DVD player for €102 with the 9 HD DVDs. And today, postie delivered the 5 additional free discs :D:D. I sent off the application form as soon as the player arrived a few weeks back and the discs arrived today.

I can't remember what I actually looked for, but I got the following:

    Corpse Bride
    Full Metal Jacket
The Fast And The Furious - Tokyo Drift
    Black Rain (already have this)
    The Hulk (already have this)

So, the DVD player and 14 discs for €102 - not bad I reckon :)

Anyone want to swap Black Rain and the Hulk for something else?

    Dear customer

Thankyou for your enquiry but unfortunately the 5 from 13 HD DVD software promotion has now closed. It was only valid on purchases between 1st October 2007 and 31st January 2008 and then the deadline for redemptions to be received by us is 29th February 2008. We are unable to offer free HD DVD titles to customers that purchased players outside the set promotional period due to the terms of Toshiba's policy and those of our software partners.

We value your custom highly and would like to have included you in our software promotion, but unfortunately it was not possible on ths occasion.

Once again thank you for being a Toshiba customer and we hope you have many hours enjoyment from your HD DVD player.

I definitely missed the 29th Feb deadline, but I did send it off the day I got the DVD player.

Maybe they were inundated with applications after the second last IBOOD and decided to stop.
