I can remember taking my first steps..

Crawling over to the edge of the wardrobe and walking those few steps and whack.. off the floor..

I can also remember when i was scared senceless of when Bill Bixby would change into the Incredible hulk, i was certainly no more than 3 or 4 years old.

First day in school, i remember that very vividly. I do recall one girl taking a poop on the floor across from me... I seen her only very recently - i didnt remind her of it.. thought it best not to!

So.. the year was around 1979 - 80 ish

Probably wise. She might've f*cked her drink over you.

I was scared of Supergran for some reason, used to hide under the table when it came on (think Billy Connolly done the theme tune).

Counting bottle caps in the plastic trays from Mikado biscuits in babeh infants also. :)

Is that a typo? Should it be something to do with rimming?

I remember sitting on my Uncle's lap in my Grannies house. Just fidgeting about with a hammer while he, my mum and my gran were chatting. I then whacked my thumb with it and started bawling, and my mum came over to comfort me. Thats as far bacas I go, Im pretty sure it predates my other early memory of knocking over 1 of 2 black porcelain cats my mum had on the hall dresser.

    :o

my first memory is realising that my thoughts are my own. before, i use to think what ever i was thinking, my mam would know about.

then one day i had a bad thought and she didnt say anything about it.
i think i got the wodden spoon for actually doing it after.

    :D happy days.

I went to a child-minder's place until I was about a year and a half old (ie, until shortly after my brother was born and the mammy decided to mind us herself :) ) Anywho, I remember being carried out the front door the last time I was in the house and there was a black and green "hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil" ornament (three chimps on a green base). Obviously I didn't understand what the symbol meant at the time, but I can still see it almost 18 years on!

Going on a school trip when I was in playschool. I was all exctied because I was going in my friends cars, one of those estate cars with the giant boots you could sit in. She had cushions in the back and me and my bro were so excited about it... I must have been 3/4.

Other early memory involves me puking all over the table in Junior Infants. It was art time and I puked over peoples pictures. I blamed my aunt because she'd been over the night before and given me loveheart sweets!

Sidneykidney... that's a really lovely memory. Very touching.

I can't even remember the start of this thread!

I think my earliest memory is from when I was one twoish but to be honest Im not sure how clear these memories are my younger sister always brings up these old memories she has that never happened I know I was around when these things were supposed to have happened I think she has watched too much Tv and infused that with her life

I remember lying down in my pram (you know those lie-down style prams) and being really uncomfortable but I don't think I could talk much at that stage so I just remember crying a lot and then I must have fallen asleep.

I remember my sister's baptism which happened when I was 1 and 11 months. Can remember crawling around the pews and my older cousins egging me on.

sometimes i say oh remember the time...blah blah..and then im like no wait was that a dream?? or somethin i seen, similar to your sister....very annoying. i dont know if it actual happened or not....i get memories of me doing things and there so clear but i dont know where they come from.

i also remember things like playschool and school very diff to what they actually looked like.... like i remember them being in a different place....strange...maybe there memories from my past life ha!

I was about 2 years old, living in England at the time, and a bird flew in through my bedroom window. I remember being hysterical and running to get someone to comfort me! Then my dad got rid of it for me. My hero!!!!!:D

Hah, me and my mates were talking about this last night.

My earliest memory was when I was still a baby, really early in the morning, in my cot, throwing my teddys at the window, then calling mum in so she would collect the teddys and give them back to me.Then I would repeat the process over.
No idea why I even have a memory of it

My absolute earliest memory is telling another kid to f*ck off when I was around two years old. Next memory after that is my first day of school. I remember the girl that I sat beside. Ended up in college with her years later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,229 ✭✭✭Susannahmia

I think I'm a bit strange as I can remember lots of things from my early years very clearly. I think my earliest memory was of climbing out of my cot at eighteen months, I can even kind of remember what I was thinking, my mother said she got such a fright that she never put me back in it again.:D

I can recall playschool perfectly and my first years of primary school are a doddle to remember. Pity my short term memory isn't as good.

I remember standing alongside a pram that my baby brother was in and holding his bottle upright while he was drinking from it. I was just gone 2 1/2
at the time and that was over 40 years ago.

I have other memories but I don't know if they're from seeing photos and then thinking I can actually remember the event. I have a photo of when I was just about 1 year old and I'm sitting upright in the pram outside the front door for my daily "airing". I've been told on one of these occasions a hen walked up the path and hopped in to the pram and I bawled.

I remember having a nose bleed in play school and the teacher gave out to me because I 'let' the blood go all over a picture I was supposed to be drawing :/.

Find that slightly hard to believe.
So you mean an incubator? Was there something wrong with you?

No, not the incubator. The glass cot that they put you in. I remember looking up and seeing see through walls around me.

I used to stand up in the cot and throw myself over the bars onto my parents bed, then sneak in and sit behind my dads seat and watch tv.Mum says I was about 1 and a half at the time.

Rasberry newborns are extremely nearsighted, I'd wager its not a proper memory.

I have 5 or so vivid memories but i have no idea in what order they occured (would all have occured around the same time). I have spoken to parents but they don't recall some/know when they happened but i must have been about 2-3 when they happened.

    1) Lying beside my sister for a photo a little while before she died. Definately my favourite early memory and still have said photo.
    2) Almost getting knocked down by a car and my dad sitting by the side of the road afterwards crying (from fright i assume, not that it missed :p )
    3) Sitting in the dark in my old school being super quiet to scare the parents as they collected us.
    4) Handing out crisps and sweets etc in school for everyone on my birthday (in holland on your birthday you supply the snacks for everyone to celebrate).
    5) Getting a nail jammed into my head after falling over a doorstep in a neighbours house.

Those are the 5 i recall most vividly

I remember the first time going to church, I managed to escape from my mothers clutch. Beat an old man with his walking stick then run up to the alter. The priest made some joke about the children coming to God so I kicked him and started out on the run again. Didn't make the front door but we had to leave in the end with all the screaming I was doing.

    I remember JFK's visit.

That's the earliest memory I can accurately pinpoint.

I remember staying over in my Granny's house while my parents went out and being in a big double bed in the dark. The grandparents cat jumped out of the wardrobe onto the bed and I screamed the house down! I still can't sleep in complete darkness but I love cats!
Memory number two is being in the same house and finding a Union Jack in the understairs cupboard. I wanted to bring it out on the road and wave it around! This was vetoed and I had a tantrum. Bear in mind this was probably 1965/66. I was about 4 I think.

Wow, some of you have pretty early memories. I can't remember too far back. First memory i can pinpoint was when i was 6 years old sitting watching Ireland v Italy in the World Cup quarter final that year.

After Italy scored my older brother told me that Italy had taken off their goalkeeper to give Ireland a chance and it was really annoying that Ireland couldn't score despite this. I fell for it but i swear to god everytime i looked up at the screen i couldn't see any Italian goalkeeper in front of goals. Such is the mind of a gullible 6 year old!

Can't remember anything before that. Maybe i just blacked out the eighties or something. Well ahead of my time. I knew the good times were coming. :D

dropping a toy of the "fat controller" (thomas the tank engine guy) down behind the radiator in the kitchen and it getting stuck!

    wonder if its still ther?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 193 ✭✭whatsgoinon

watchin some fellas install a radiator in my room when i was about 3, they made an awful mess, there was a hole drilled in the wall. My parents were away at the time and my aunt and uncle were down from dublin. My uncle had a lada and he used to bring us to the beach, along the way he would beep going around all the corners to warn people we were coming. There was a thing in between the 2 front seats as well that he would pull up to keep us in the back, good times:)

I remember me telling someone my mum was going to have a baby when I was about two, I also remember bouncing on my then-pregnant mum's large stomach while she tried to gently tell me to stop.

    I didn't stop.

I was absolutely terrified of the Mr Muscle man in the TV adverts, I mean I'd hide behind the couch when the ads came on!!

I also remember when my mam was pregnant with my sister 'talking' to her thru her belly button. Very strange child.

I'm not sure what age I was but I must have been very young.
I remember my chest was going up and down and I was wondering why.

Hmm, plenty --- but the one that really stands out, and which I'll never forget... having a concrete nail [you know, them massively long nails?] go right through my knee and pop out in the other side inbetween the joint. :o

Just imagining the pain when I tried to stand up... *shudders*
