Regular beerage

Given the general spirit (hehe) of this fine forum and the general fun that seems to be had at the organised beers (well I had a right laugh on Friday anyway) I got to thinking.

As the vast majority of the people at the beers are from the Dublin area and that, why not have say a local like Yore Ma's only real?

Keep a sticky then whoever is around and up for pints on a Friday or Saturday (or whenever, these are the only days I could manage) just pop in and say they're up for it. If there's a few then meet up in the Porterhouse or some such, if not, don't bother.

Just a thought. I'd be up for it and I live 45 miles away!

What regular beer information disemination system should we operate? 18 votes

Super sekret forum, venue and atendees only, no clique chat

Stickified thread with attendees recieving pm of venue

No regular beers, just big official ones

You may be on to something there Broither Don1. I wouldn't limit it to a single boozer though. Why not have a sticky instead that BG&RHers could just pop a post in if they were going for a pint in a certain bar & would be there between, say, 4:00 & 6:00 if anyone cared to pop in?

Patrick that's on the Naas road, which loops around. I'm talking about the Blessington road. Straighter!
Although now that I live in Carlow town Naas road is more accurate............
    :)

Hill Billy that's exactly what I'm on about. I just said Porterhouse as I love the beers.........

Or how about a thread (something like) 'If your in town, my regular is...'

And we can just list our regular haunts!.

Mine's Campions on the Malahide Road (Balgriffin cemetary).

Nice pub that. Pity the only time I ever went there was for the afters of a funeral!

The Carpenter in Carpenterstown or Myos in Castleknock were my locals back home.

Mmmmm has anybody thought of the possiblities of stalkers/lurkers/weirdos reading the "Know your barfiles Thread" and seeing some fit young one of young fella, saying ooohhh she/he/they look nice!! And then the read the sticky and see ooohh they're gonna be in that pub in an hour... maybe I'll go stalker them some more!!!

The thoughts of it Weirds me out a bit!!!! This is more aimed towards the ladies I think as folk like Mairt would be well capable of handling a stalker or 2 on his own I'm sure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,172 ✭✭✭Don1

Hmmm, you do have a point. Lads meet in the sticky, wimmins pm me! :D

That's slanderous. Brother Mairt has no interest in being spit-roasted. I think. ;)

I kinda like the idea as I am based in the city centre for work, but shak has a point! Maybe we need a sekret regulars only sub forum where we can organise such things and then others can be recommended by the regulars, like the lolocaust. Dunno wether it would be too much work for such a thing! On the other hand posters could decide they were on for pints and then PM a venue around!

Something covert would definately be a plus with the stalking and pretteh wimmins we have here! :D
We should pray to the Mods for guidance!

The issue of a sekrit BGRH forum was raised in the past (can't remember what for) and was shot down immediately. While the Brothers and Brotherettes are free organise their own private beers among themselves and invite whoever they like, BGRH is probably the most inclusive forum on Boards, all are welcome and the tolerance level is high. A members-only forum would ruin what has been built up in a very short space of time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,172 ✭✭✭Don1

Only sekret for beer organisation. No chat or anything like that. Just a post of the location and who's in. Like a sekret society. Then back to Yore Ma's for post beers analysis.

You are correct brother, although I can't remember the reason for the original request either and am too lazy to go looking for the thread! In this instance though I think the idea has some merit although I am on the fence. I only mentioned the idea of a restricted forum to address shaks point, however a sitcky thread where peeps can then use PMs to zero in on a venue might also have merit!

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,352 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

It would still have to be decided who's in and who's out. Removes the all-inclusive element, especially if there was post-beers chat and people felt left out. I've no problem with people organising private beers, but a private forum gets a big thumbs down from me.

Fairy muff. Stickified thread and pm sorting would seem the only way to appease the Mods so.

Zaphs not a mod of this forum, I have met him and his head is big enough already;)

Edit: Let's leave this thread run for a bit and see what everyone else thinks, Don maybe you should add a pol to the thread and get a consensus!

Well I'm not a mod here, that's just my own personal opinion. However I do believe that brother Tom holds a similar view.

Your prolly right Brother but let's see what others think before shooting it down, maybe if there were enough interested a private forum could be requested outside of BGHR, God knows there are enough of them around this place (boards not BGRH).

A secret forum would be a terrible idea I think this place already smacks of clique mentality with all those who attend Internet gatherings part and those not ignored!

I really don't know where you get that idea from. All are welcome to the beers, and it's inevitable that there'll be a lot of talk before and after them by those in attendance. There's nothing stopping you joining in, assuming you're not in Tasmania or something, and I can't say I've ever seen anyone willfully ignored on BGRH.

Get a grip there Rob_l. I've never been to a "beers", but I don't get ignored. Same goes for plenty of others who frequent this forum. Maybe you haven't posted anything worth commenting on?

    * Waits for a person who went to a "beers" to ignore this post.

Not even sure if I would go for it or not, I am just looking at both sides of the argument! As I said lets add a poll and see what others think! Yes BGRH is and should be inclusive, of course its a clique, that's what any group of people who have similar interests is! But it's not a very hard clique to become a member of:) The point of a sub forum / thread with PMs etc is that there are real wierdos out there as well who may look at such gatherings as potential for mischeif, you see there are a few ways at looking at this! Personally I have no problem going to to public meetups and was at the first one, but not everybody is! It's still worth having the discussion though!

Its not about going to the beers, but those who do attend, perhaps their posts are regarded higher than those who choose not to attend such functions.

    Are examples needed?

I would go with yes, examples needed

edit: why not just make a "I want to drink when and where thread"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,172 ✭✭✭Don1

Right tried to edit it but alas I cannot see any option to polarise it, which incidentally I think this argument is doing. :D
Poll options that a mod might be so kind to add, or instruct me how to (I can't see it)
    1. sekret venue and atendees minus any chat forum
    2. sticky attendee sign up with venue pmage
    3. no change, organised big beers only

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,602 ✭✭✭ShayK1

    You don't go into edit...
At the top of the thread you show see "Thread Tools" and a drop down menu.. in the menu there should be "Add a poll to this Thread"

Good idea, but I'd be wary of posting on a public forum where I'm going to be at a particular time. Not because anyone would bother stalking me, I just don't want the debt collectors to find me.

I voted for the sticky and pm option, I think that would be the best way since it's all inclusive but cuts out the stalker issues, pretty good compromise imo

Negative responses to the poll question? Everybody has an opinion. Some folk like to keep to themselves. As for the votes for just regular big ones, well, again, opinion.

If you mean negative as in people whining about the clique mentality, I really think you have no good grounds for that argument.
People are going to talk about events end of. If every thread was totally overrun with beers chat (there is a bit I'll admit) and any other posts were being ignored, then you might have a point. But as it is clearly not, invalid argument tbh.

This was already pointed out above. If you disagree on the level of inclusiveness here, well, fine, sorry I guess. Enjoy your fish.

You've been asked for examples of aforementioned clique-ish behavior. You've failed to provide them. Therefore I conclude that the giant chip on your shoulder has obviously caused a malfunction in your central nervous system and has resulted in you spouting such utter verbal diarrhoea. Shame that, you might get something for it at the chemist.
