You can ensure you have the latest version by using the "Check for updates" option in the Midlet... This option is available since v0.20

    new Version.
many new featues, (many new bugs :) )

-option to save last cinema listings and view later (save connecting up again), will let ya know if your listings are (roughly) out of date.

-settings, change font size (because different phones with different display sizes). Option to use parser from other url other than mine, should one everbe uploaded and mine goes down.

-check for updates, determine if there is a newer version for download and point your phone browser to a location to there the new jad/jars are (if your phone suports it.

-about box, no important functionality here..

yes, im aware of this. It was commin out in the previous build also. No idea why the blackberry is throwing that exception and the internet hasn't much details on it.

Ah ok. Didnt realise you came across it already. As you said, Google throws up lots of incidents but no real solutions :(

yes i'll post it later today, as im new to php, im not sure what php environment you'll need to run the script, I know your php setup will need to allow remote urls to be read, some setup's have this disabled due to remote file include abuse.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,267 ✭✭✭h57xiucj2z946q

new jar up if anyone wants to try the "check ffor update" feature..

you'll need to have 0.21 installed first before you do this.. if you dont, then don't bother :) you can load the jar manually. 0.22 is latest now.

no problem, it was my friend who has the other BlackBerry, I dont have one, which makes testing more difficult.

    good to hear,

yeah installing midlets on S60v3 seems to be little dodgy, I do get the same on my N73 sometimes when installing midlets. Doesn't happen with SIS/SISX apps tho.

If you get- Error: HTTP Response: 404, (means my free hosting has temporarly gone down) you can use an alternative parser at http://www.mamak.eu/irlcg/irlcg.php
Enter this in Settings in the application under Parser/Other thx to mart_max

Having done some testing with Damo2k, this is now working fine on my Blackberry, so if anybody else was having issues, try the latest version which is 0.25beta

There is a 2nd new parser url also if the default one times out

    Works on Blackberry now.

    Blackberry Developer support say:

    "Resolution:
There was an issue in earlier versions of device software where invoking ChoiceGroup.append() after ChoiceGroup.deleteAll() on a ChoiceGroup that is on a Screen throws IllegalStateException. This issue was resolved in 4.3.0."

I have coded a workaround so people with OS below 4.3.0 (eg 4.2.2.146) should no longer have problems.

Sorry guys.. looks like the fun is over. today I got an email:

    From: Astrient Labs, LLC <info@a......>
    Date: Mar 24, 2008 11:37 PM
    Subject: app: 5429,IRL Cinema Guide
    To: damohere@g.....

    Hi Damo,

We have received a request from Entertainment.ie to remove IRL Cinema Guide. Entertainment.ie alleges that the application accesses and displays copyrighted information from their site without proper authorization.

If you believe that this allegation is in error, please let us know and provide us with any explanatory information within 72hrs that will help us resolve this issue. Although we truly appreciate you as HostJ2ME member and admire the development talent that you showcase, for liability reasons, we may be forced to remove the Cinema Guide application.

    Thanks,

complaints can be sent to info@entertainment.ie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,611 ✭✭✭✭Sam Vimes

you could get the info from here instead:

    http://m.rte.ie/entertainment/cinema/index.html

entertainment.ie can't complain about that can they?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,267 ✭✭✭h57xiucj2z946q

thats a god idea, it'll just involve changing the parser a bit.

Very sour of them to complain in my opinion. The about box in my tool clearly stated where it gets the info from.

Wonder to they mind that people using Internet Explorer or Firefox are accessing their copyrighted info :)

ah but those people have to look at the ads on their site. i can see why they would want it blocked but i wouldn't do it if i was them. someone using your program when out and about would probably go to entertainment.ie when at a computer, simply because they saw the site on your program

personally, i didn't even know entertainment.ie did cinema listings until your program came out. i just always went to the cinema's own site. your program was free advertising for them

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,267 ✭✭✭h57xiucj2z946q

I thought that too, I have emailed entertainment.ie about it as they havent contacted me directly. They contacted HostJ2me about it.

let them know that the information can be got from any number of sources so the program will go on with or without the free ad for their site in it. they should be paying you tbh

they know his website's ip and they'd be able to see all the requests coming from it so he can't pretend he's not doing it unfortunately

someone is emailing me today from entertainment.ie

he was not aware of the request or anyone he has spoken to doesn not know about the request. He is more concerned about who put in the request rather than the app itself.

u could b getting in trouble for a different reason now. maybe you've dropped an entertainment.ie staff member in deep sh1t, sounds like no ones owning up to reporting you in the first place. i'd say they'll see the error of their way and just shut up about it!

We understand and agree with your position. Indeed what the application does
is no different from a specialized browser or even some WAP gateways.
Furthermore Internet Archive, Google, and many other companies regular
spider, copy and index copyrighted information on an enormous scale.

Unfortunately we do not have enough resources to effectively fight them on
the issue and will have to remove the application by COB tomorrow. Our
servers are based in the US and we face litigation and possible shutdown if
    we do not comply.

There are some other sites similar to ours where you can try hosting the
    application.

    http://mosh.nokia.com <http://mosh.nokia.com/>

    http://developer.getmidlet.com <http://developer.getmidlet.com/>

You could try to work out a content sharing agreement with entertainment.ie
or modify the application to use a different data source. I mentioned to
entertainment.ie the popularity and interest in the application. We would
like to see a happy ending to all of this.

The person identified themselves as Julian Douglas. It is possible someone
spoofed the request. We have had groundless requests in the past from individuals who were apparently motivated by nefarious reasons. Ask Dave if
he can verify the request with Julian.

I havent heard anything yet. They made it seem like it was a high priority issue but now they are being unresponsive. Julian has not responded to the email I sent him on last Thursday.

I set the application to private. It will no longer appear in the directory listing. I am traveling at the moment. Lets leave it like it is and play it by ear. Let me know if your contact ever gets back to you.

i myself have also emailed entertainment.ie to see if we can come to some agreement last thursday but no reply yet. For now people won't be able to download and install the jar however for thoes that already have it installed, the parser is still up for now if there is high enough demand :-)

Everything should be working again.. no need to download a new jar.

Didn't know people were still using this application!

this reminds me of a script I had setup to ripp info from digiguide.com when they had listings on-line, it took about a week before they e-mailed me and said they wanted the script taken down or else.

In fairness to them they did offer a workable alternative which I was happy with :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,267 ✭✭✭h57xiucj2z946q

I haven't heard from them since April, so I guess they no longer care. If people find the app useful, then all is good.

I think there were a few others not working as well like cork.

You didn't by anychance use that stream to power a desktop widget did you? Had a very handy one years ago and then the feed went dead one day.

No just a pearl script is all, it automatically displayed TV listings based on set keywords, digiguide just gave me one that could be inbeded in a webpage

Can you select the next day for the cinema times? Chances of putting it in?
