Hi I never posted before, so bear with me. I have a question, I go to the gym 4-5 days a week, & do spinning pretty much everyday. I do weights to strenghten my back but thats it. i am fairly slim and look a bit toned. would like to get more toned, but find doing weights just boring. any suggestions on other classes that I could do that will help me get more toned?

Cut back on the spinning - will in no way increase your 'tone' thats the purpose of the weights. Just use a decent weights program and keep it interesting by changing the exercise every other session you do.

Is there anywhere you can buy a spinning bike in Ireland? Do any of the gyms sell off their used equipment?

Just as a side; could anyone recommend any good spinning classes in the North County Dublin area (Swords/Balbriggan, even as far as Drogheda).
    Venue, time etc?

    cheers

Would recommend the boxercise as it gives you an all-round workout, the warm-up alone is great. having said that - one of the posters above mentioned weights for toning and I have to agree. There is only so much these classes can achieve in an hour but weights can make a big difference quite quickly.

Either way, well done and keep it up! I've only started the spinning recently and hope to get more into it! Hoping it will help me shed a few pounds!!

The "toned" look is achieved as a result of losing fat and building muscle. Spinning can only help you lose fat through the calories you use up each class. The body adapts very quickly and you'll soon hit a plateau, where you don't see continuous improvements any more.

I recommend you switch to a new aerobic stimulus (e.g. rowing, rebounding, boxercise, Khai Bo etc) and start a strength training program.

You mention that you find weights boring - maybe your attitude towards them would change if you knew how much they'd help you. If not, I'd recommend you try a Bodypump class, a group class that involves the use of barbells for the exercises in it.

Can I just ask a question? i am getting a program tonight in the gym.
So i was thinking of doing this

2 days spinning plus doing weights on progam
1 day jogging/cross trainer plus weights
    1 day pilates

    What do you think?

Sounds good. I'd recommend you do weights before the jogging/crosstrainer day. All of the cardio you're doing so far emphasises the lower body. If you were to combine upper body weighttraining exercises with rowing or a boxercise class, you'd really notice your upper body tone up. Make weights your main focus though - as you get stronger, your body will get tighter and leaner.

I have a bad back so i am a bit afraid that the rowing or boxercise will damage it. i do a weights to strenghten my back as it is. do you think the jogging or cross trainer will be sufficent? and one more question why do weights before cardio? whats the reason behind that
"sorry i am actually blonde" :)

If you're using the rower properly, it will actually strengthen your back. You've actually at more risk of injuring your back (especially your lower back) from jogging, especially if it's on a hard surface. While the treadmill absorbs a lot of shock compared to road running, it still puts the spine under a huge amount of repetitive strain. Its up to you though - give your program a go and see how you get on.

The reason I recommend doing weights before cardio is that weight-training should be your priority if you want to tone up. Strength training and good nutrition are the foundation of getting the "toned" look you want. Therefore I recommend doing weights when you have the most energy and then add cardio at the end.
