Wondering what everyone is planning for St. Patricks. I'm headin up to the capital for some pints but probably go the Saturday or Sunday because I've work on Tuesday and don't fancy the 'Longest Day' scenario if I go on the lash on Monday.

What's everyone doing and when are they doing it?

    When: Paddy's Day

    Why complicate matters further?

Because people are tellin me that Paddy's day is unofficially the Saturday because it fell on the Monday - I refuse to believe it but a few have told me. Thought I'd put it out there to the nation.

    From Wikipedia:
The date of the feast is occasionally moved by church authorities when March 17 falls during Holy Week; this last happened in 1940 when Saint Patrick's Day was observed on 3 April in order to avoid it coinciding with Palm Sunday, and will happen again in 2008, when it shall be held on 15 March.

I know its wikipedia but its an example of what I've been hearing.

Seems I should edit the title to When are you Drinking for paddy's day. Parades are so old school.

I remember one year I was in the trinity arms pub in dublin watching the parade on tv as it went past outside. Only ran out to see Rosanna Davison in the flesh to see if she was 'all that' - I'm glad we didn't lose our seats, because she wasn't.

Apparently the church are changing the holy day of observation to saturday the 15th. Parades and everything will be the 17th as usual.

as for Paddy's Day, whatever, hyped up load of crap.

Last year I spent the day in bed after being in the Tripod the night before.

Studying and drinking. What proportion will depend on Monday and Tuesday of next week

21st on the Saturday night. Other than that, I don't intend on joining the hammered throngs in town, or in "town", so probably chilling out with a few friends and having some fun at home.

Gonnu be in Vienna. Better place to be than in Ireland than in any other day of the year. So more likely that it is on the 17th.

True. Vienna, lovely. Have fun. I didn't know that they had Paddy day celebrations, or do they?

Ah, I don't know. But the truth is that the idea of St. Patrick's day is more alive overseas than it is here!

I'll feel happier cheering on St. Pat in Vienna than I would in D6.

As I did in central London last year.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 18,115 ✭✭✭✭ShiverinEskimo

As I did watching Ireland throw away the Six Nations against Italy in Bridie O'Reilly's in Melbourne. Even Guinness in 30 degree heat tastes nice on paddy's day. ;)

Yeah right, was in SA near Durban a few years ago ('02) we (SAffers & me) trawled Durban on Paddies Day (Tuesday) to complete dullness - they had their Paddies Day on the previous weekend night. Boring gits in Durban...

Back to Warner Beach and instigated a ball in keeping with Paddies Day celebrations anywhere. Continued to this day...

Don't care too much about it tbh. Will be in Croke Park at the club finals. Wouldn't watch a parade if it passed by my front door.

Like last year I'll be drinking a pint of Guinness with my fry at 9am in Perth. Unfortunately there's no public holiday over here for it so my boozing will have to be done on the Saturday.

I hate Paddy's Day at home but when you're away it's f*ckin quality!

You mean some sort of seperation of church and state? That'll never catch on...

    Baby Rave...
The music and dance sensation for babies comes to Dublin. Venue, SS Michael and John will be transformed to provide an ambient setting, complete with DJ, lighting, projections and sensory floor coverings. Dance facilitators will also be on hand to assist parents and children in an exploration of movement and rhythm. This is guaranteed to be a fun interactive experience for babies and parents alike. Don't miss out the opportunity to see your baby raving!! Age 0-4 years.
