    Hey there,

In relation to SGS yesterday was their first day testing so I doubt if the test routs are established yet. My wife has her test there today so I will try and get some part of the route from her.

I've got my test there on the 20th March so would be great if someone can post up what route they take. I've no idea where they would go!!
    Thanks

Hello! thanks for the good wishes, they must have worked because i passed this morning! so delighted i can't believe it.

The route was fine, but i'm really unfamiliar with swords so i don't know any of the road names but i'll try and help as best i can!
Left out of the motor park, straight through the traffic lights, on up to a housing estate beginning with "B" (sorry!) for the reverse around the corner (which i completely ballsed up - practically ended up in malahide i was so far from the kerb), left back out of housing estate, right at the traffic lights, straight for a good while on one of the windy back roads through the village, into a narrow side road for turnabout (I'm a bit hazy here - might have blacked out from nerves), down to the big 5-exit dublin road roundabout, took the dublin road exit, then just back to the test centre.

It sounds ridiculously confusing but it was totally fine. The main thing was just lots and LOTS of observation,. And honestly the SGS tester was a really lovely guy, chatting away about Gerry Ryan's divorce like a nutter. If you're any kind of driver at all you'll fly through it.
Just one thing, when you come out of the actual motor park onto the main road it's really hard to see what's coming so you have to really creep out.

Best of luck dude, if I can pass it ANYONE can! Let us know how you get on...

Sounds like out of Airside at Pinnock Hill and across the R132 and into Boroimhe?
left back out of housing estate, right at the traffic lights, straight for a good while on one of the windy back roads through the village, into a narrow side road for turnabout
Sounds like down through the Rivervalley area.
down to the big 5-exit dublin road roundabout, took the dublin road exit, then just back to the test centre.
Back out onto the R132 at the Malahide Roundabout?
And honestly the SGS tester was a really lovely guy, chatting away about Gerry Ryan's divorce like a nutter
 Very unprofessional on his part. If you unsuccessful you could claim that you were distracted by the conversation.

When I am doing a driving test, the only time I want the examiner to open his mouth is when giving directions. ;)

Absolutely spot on with the directions there Wishbone! How do you do it??

About the chatty tester: thought it was a bit strange myself but as it was my first test i had nowt to compare it to! 'Twas great for calming the nerves though, and seeing as i passed i can't complain!

I was brought the same route this morning. Called Route 1 on the form ??

First right into Broimhe just before the bus stop and the reverse was into the first turn on the left. Stopped before the junction and pointed out and you park past the left turn and reverse around.

Right out of the same way you came in and up to the lights. Make a right turn, follow the road around for a good while and he then finds an estate that I couldnt pick out for you but the hill start is off on a street to the right hand side and you go around a bend to the left for the turnabout (someone more familiar with Swords will have to help here!)

You then come back out of the estate and up towards the village. Not sue of the road but there a cream pub on the corner (o'loughlins??) turn left along main street, then right turn down past Wrights and around to the Pavillions. Left turn that roundabout. Take the 4th exit off the next one and up off the Airside exit on the next roundabout.

    Passed too :)

Sounds like you went into rivervalley, when you went through the lights coming out of borimhe did you go down a long residential road with loads of traffic islands and speed bumps?? Then down to a roundabout and past shops on your right??

    If so its rivervalley

You then came back out onto forrest road, up to the lights at eddie rockets with the lord mayors pub on your left.

Have mine on friday so gonna have a mouch about river valley and borimhe over the next week. I travel these roads quite often so am familiar with them but cant be too prepared

Thanks the two of you for your posts

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10 higgins147

Yes was lots of winding road and lots of bends and you're right again it was that pub and eddie rockets that you come out from.

the girlfriend did her test there on friday and i can confirm it was through boroimhe and turn right at the lights and down the forest road, left at the lord mayors and then up main street, turn right at the garda station to the pavillions, then back down the R132 :)

    congratulations one and all

Good to hear about all the people passing! I'm just wondering (and on a negative note - sorry) but has anyone failed in Swords SGS test centre yet?
I've my test there in a few weeks time.

Yes i know someone who failed their test last week in SGS Swords. They failed on lack of observation, right and left turns.
There seems to be an unrealistic perception of SGS centres being easier to pass your test in but they are not. I have my test tomorrow morning in Swords and i have taken pre-test lessons as well as practising the routes in Boroimhe and River Valley but I am still anxious. Plus the person i know that failed in Swords found her tester to be very unfriendly so I wouldn't necessarily be going on the experience that other people are having in Swords. Good luck with your test.:)

Those who have passed are more likely to post, hence the reason why it appears that very few have failed.

    I'm up there tommorow myself.

The centre is packed huge numbers of tests each day.

Its today, going out for final pretest in 25mins will keep you updated

Couldnt do my test in my own car last time due to warning light, but thats all sorted so bit more comfortable now, also i know these roads very well

Yes I know of someone who failed last week and I took my test this morning (and passed) but saw someone who failed. The route was out by Pinnock Hill Roundabout, right into Boirimhe. Straight up to the junction, right at the junction, straight on and left into a housing estate for reverse around the corner and hill start. Back out of this estate, turning left and first right into an estate with a yellow box before you turn into it. Took several right and left hand turns. Back out of this estate turning and along a winding road. Back through Boroimhe and straight back towards Airside. Did not go near Swords village. The test was 8am and myself and several others doing our test at this time where brought along this route and did the reverse at the same place.
Not overly familiar with these estates in SWords but once you go right at the junction at the top of Boroimhe, these estates are all in close distance....so just practice. I have to also say the staff in SGS were lovely, they asked me to come in out of my car and wait in the heat prior to the test starting. All of the instructors were coming in for their 8am start and they greeted myself and the other candidates. They really put you at ease. Best of luck.

There's two other points to note about this route.

When you come out of the garages onto the main road in airside that divides the car garages on one side with the car park on the other, there's a stop sign on the left of the road just as you pull out. The road is wide and cars are parked up along the side so its easy to miss but just as you take the left onto the central road through airside you need to stop!

Then when you travel down along past VHI swiftcentre you need to get into the left hand lane to go straight on. As you travel up to the junction you are in the right hand lane but this is for turning right only and there's not much road marking until nearly its too late so when he says go straight ahead at the next junction you need to change lanes into the left one.

Passed few mins ago in Airside.

Route was out of test centre.
Right up through airside, past vhi swifcare.
    Straight through lights.
First right into borimhe, for reversing round the corner
    Back out through borimhe
    Right onto forrest road
Down forrest rd to lights at rivervalley
    Left into river valley
First right for hill start and turnabout
Back out to forrest rd, take a left towards swords
Up to lights at lord mayors
Take a left towards main st
Right at the lights at garda station
    Past the pavillions
4th exit off malahide rd roundabout (Dual carrigeway s/bound)
Left at pinnock hill r-bout and back to test centre

I actually found driving along with the parked cars around Airside was a help. I'd say twice on the way out I had to pull in to let someone pass me and likewise others pulled in to let me pass.

By the time I'd got to the main road the nerves were ok as everything had went well up until then :)

If you can't drive down a narrow road with some spots not wide enough for two cars then your not going to pass the rest of the test I wouldn't think as it's one of the easier parts i.e. driving 20km down a straight road. I found it a nice way to start the test.

I actually tryed the lessons with Christy from Donabate. Is it Christy with a black car?.Personally i didnt find him <SNIP>.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2 NeratnsBerns

Oh well... Did me test in Swords todayo and didn't pass... I've totally messed it up with two big mistakes. I've never even been to Swords before. I had a lesson there the week before and and I drove around before the test just to see if there were any tricky bits.

Didn't go to Boroimhe though. Went right at the traffic lights from Airside and up to the roundabout, then left to the Swords Village and then into the series of very small windy roads with loadz of STOP signs around. You have to really have to know around a bit for the test there!

There were 3 girls taking test at the same time and I think only one of them passed...

Anyway... gonna apply for another one and take some more lessons :D

Has anybody been taking on a test route which does not involve any of the routes mentioned?
