    hi all

i have been looking out for a SVD dragunov i have seen one for example on rsov which is really cheap http://www.rsov.com/product_info.php?products_id=339

but apparently that model is not a true dragunov i read that its basically an ak47 with extended barrel, ive seen some others but they cost a fortune so i dont really want to be running around with an aeg in bubble wrap,

i am really looking for one thats reasonably priced that i wont mind taking some punishment and that i can add better internals/wood kits etc myself,

is there anthing out there that might fit the bill?

    thanks

    John

At the moment to get a correct svd you have to go spring or gas and spend a large sum of money, there is a light at the end of the tunnel with a svd on the horizon from a company called Real Sword, this should (hope) be sold for a reasonable price.

They haven't been uber cheap in the past (TYPE97) but not over priced. They would be able to hike prices though as people would spend alot for a decent Druganov.

The aks have been rather good value you get a near perfect ak for the price excellent finish no need for after market parts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,641 ✭✭✭zero19

Yeah the Real Sword AKs are excellent, apparently the closest you can get to the RS.

Unless you are willing to pay 200 quid and above, you wont get a 'True' SVD, and even then it will be a springer (A damn good and beautiful springer, but no auto fire for you!).
At the very least it will come with real wood.

Such as the G&P (By AtoZ) SVD Springer with wood furniture:
    G&P_SVD_Dragonov.jpg
    ...drool.

Shipped from Guns 'N' Guys in HK including 2 extra mags, that's HK$ 3,504.00 or USD 461 or 293 Euro.

I've been waiting on getting a AEG version of the SVD, I thought about picking up the springer but then ... whats the point in getting a Automatic Sniper Rifle that only fires 1 shot bolt action....

    So leaves me two options
A: buying the JG one and then rip out the internals and putting in some more reliable parts or

    B: wait ...........

Anyone want to take bets on how long it takes me to crack and go for option A

    wait for B!

i picked up a book on real steel rifles, and it has pictures of the ak and the svd there is differences between the two, the jg body looks and is ak like, the real version of the svd does look much smaller/thinner and it has a smaller magazine too

saying that about the jg you can get wood kits/ scopes/ scope rails all from rsov, and i assume because its ak based it will be easy as hell to get magazines for it,

speaking of "B" does anyone actually have any news web links, specs or images of the proposed rifle?

    thanks all

This Picture is of the Orignal Dragunov
    svd_1.jpg

While here we see three AK adaptations (Chinease / Romanian & Iraqi)
    svd_clones.jpg

TBH there’s not allot of difference visually with the clones, most of it has to do with the internals of the RS types.
I'm thinking that having an AK-SVD variant would be handy for the simple fact that getting replacement internal parts would be allot easier.
If your major concern is the visual aspect well that’s why they invented customization kits, to make it look pretty on the outside ;)

I think I'll go with option A and put some love into my gun.... figuratively speaking lol :D

G&P and AtoZ DO NOT make the same SVD.

    Here are the current manufacturers:

JG - It's not even an SVD, it's an AK with an extended barrel as said above.

G&P - Gas Blowback, no hop-up, 430fps, very poor range. More of a collectors Gun, fantastic externals.

AtoZ/King Arms - AtoZ make the gun, and KA rebranded some of them with out wooden furniture e.t.c

Escort - The dogs danglies of SVD's. Practically a real SVD converted to GBB. Externally powered with hop-up = Best SVD by FAR.

Guarder/Inokatsu - They made a conversion kit, but it wasn't an SVD, it was more of an M76.

I've got an Escort one ordered, they take 6-8months to build!

escort.......sorry i just need to wipe the droll away :P

necron, if you want a svd there is a massive difference between a svd and a ak body with svd style stock and extended forend, only the bottom on is close to the clone jG but even still there are massive differences.

just resurecting this one, i was reading about rpk machine guns,
taking the jg svd adding a longer barrel - not sure which one would be right and adding a drum mag and upgrades would this make a good support weapon?

I'm interested in the Escort Dragunov, but can't find them anywhere to order one. Can anyone assist me with this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 589 ✭✭✭Beast ASI

I had one on order and they forced me to cancel it - They're nearly bankrupt or something (Money problems anyway)

You order via this email - escort@f7.dion.ne.jp

Thanks for the input. I own a Atoz and it does have real wood. It fore arm wood broke so I had fix it. I also own a real Russian SVD and wanted one I could shoot from my deck.

Stupidly good. So solid you could club baby seals with it. Smells like a real gun too with the oil. Hefty though, very hefty. Thoroughly recommend the SVD if it's anything like the Type56. I personally won't be able to afford it or house it. Space and cash is scarce at Casa Del Padmundo.

The type 97 is a pain in the hole in one regard... the battery is a custom jobby that has to reside in the gun permanently because stripping it out involves disconnecting the trigger mechanism from the eh... switch mechanism (??) while stripping it.

Anyone care to hazzard a guess at what the RS SVD will cost ?

One thing thats been playing on my mind. Its an AEG.
From looking at were the magazine sits on the SVD and the general
distance between the Pistol Grip and Trigger to the Start of the Barrel it makes
me wonder what way they have the motor set up.

to be honest im not sure who makes it but i do know the company that did make it has gone out off buisness . but it is a large chunk of euros for a springer . it fires at 325 6 out of ten others are either sligthly higher or lower buy 2 or 3 fps so tis all good so far . just cant find the hopup on it or if its where i think it is it means i have to take the top cover off to get at it and sofar i cant find the release catch

how does the cover come off . thanks :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 589 ✭✭✭Beast ASI

The latch on the right handside of the gun - You just push it down (It'll be able to go about 270degrees) and the cover will become loose, and you can just take it off.

I received pricing today for the RS SVD -

they come in 2 configs , with and without the scope limited to 500 pcs

scary thing - the price to retailers (Ex. VAT) is $563 for the one with the scope. ()

the price without is more in line with high end aegs.
for my money , get the one without the scope and get yourself a real steel scope.

Thats the wooden model only yes?

I want the polymer one, as nothing close in airsoft has been done before.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

yep its only the 'traditional' svd being released at the moment, the polymer version is only down as 'coming soon' at the moment and no product photos yet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,878 ✭✭✭spicymchaggis

so soon, oh my gawds i wants one :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,612 ✭✭✭bullets

OK I want one! and also want the Barret at Christmas time.
Wonder if there is any chance of any of the Irish retailers
secureing a few for us punters? or are we better off trying to source one ourselves?

    Where can you pre-order these?

[EDIT: Never mind...my prayers may have been answered]
