have read this thread about the v20 firmware but no one mentions if it's suitable for the 8gig

tried the product code on the thread (Euro1 product code 0536062 - the Euro 1 Plum code) on nokia site and it gives:

Latest available software for Nokia N95, product code 0536062
    Version: 20.0.015.

    currently have v15

don't want to end up bricking the phone

anyone know if v20 will work on the 8gig n95?

No it won't work as it is for Nokia n95 not nokia n95 8gb.u already have the latest version for Nokia n95 8gb V 15 is the latest. Hope this helps.

yeah sbhatia is correct. don't install n95 firmware onto your n95 8gb phone or you could end up bricking you mobile. You have the most up-to-date firmware already installed for n95 8gb

my nokia n95 8gb is an ex vodafone, what do i need to do to update it once the firmware is out, i would presume vodafone firmware would stop me updating with the generic nokia f/w?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,581 ✭✭✭marcbrophy

i have an n95 8gb on vodafone and it is stuck on f/w version 11.0.026
any time i try and u/d using the nokia software updater, it says that no u/d is available.
anyone have any idea when v/f are going to release the firmware for download?

No idea and i got tried waiting. You can unlocked the phone (which is what i did - http://clear-nokia.blogspot.com/2007/05/nokia-n95-debranding-guide.html ) but it voids the warranty.

I did that (used EURO 1 product code 0549487) and ran the software updater, and it only gave me the option to ugrade to V15.
Do you have to run it again to get V20

Also before i update, does it affect the mass memory? Do you have to back that up aw well?

did u unplug it during the update?

any message popup at any stage throughout the update, bit more info needed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,036 ✭✭✭BArra

ur backup is prob just conflicting with the new firmware, try this

green button + 3 + * while pressing the start button

that will do a hard reset and should fix it

no,but I did get a few phone calls and messages, didnt answer them though.

It said that the firmware was updated successfully, and when i went to restore the back up froze,so after waiting 30 mins, i cancelled the restore and restarted the phone

Thats when the message came up

guys, how exactly do you perform the hard reset? my phone won't work - "phone start up failed, contact the retailer".

    Thanks

Less of the sarccy Barra mate

From your description, i thought it involved using the + button also, it's only when i googled it i found that it was - green button, and the * button, and the 3 button while pressing power button on.

Anyways, sorted now and upgraded to V15 firmware.
Still lost my Spiderman 3 activation key, even after doing a N series pcsuite backup - when i tried restoring settings it bricked the phone (hence the need for a hard reset.

    Thanks for the info.

Okay, so I've recently gotten myself the N95 8GB from Vodafone and I'm interested in upgrading the firmware but obviously, doing that will void the warranty so what I'd like to find out is what are the pros and cons for flashing the phone and upgrading to the latest firmware (apart from the obvious new features sbhatia has listed above). My firmware version is 11.0.026.

Secondly, by doing the upgrade, is there a possibility that I'll permanently brick the phone? Like, if the upgrade doesn't go well, by doing the hard reset will you always be able to back out of it? I'm just trying to work out worst-case-scenario here.

And finally, does Vodafone release any firmware updates of their own that won't void your warranty?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,324 ✭✭✭chrislad

Go to your local Nokia center and ask them to put the latest non branded firmware on it. That won't void the warranty and it's risk free.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,813 ✭✭✭Mr Velo

I really don't see how they can say that by upgrading the firmware the warranty will be voided. I mean, it's a nokia phone, and it's official nokia firmware (the latest) that we're upgrading to - so i can't see what the problem is.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,026 ✭✭✭Killaqueen!!!

I always thought that if you upgrade official firmware released on Nokia Software Updator, the warranty isn't voided? It's only when you use a product code to upgrade that the warranty is gone.

Anyway, I'm still on V11 and want to upgrade to V20 (or whatever the latest one is on NSU). I've backed up all that I can using PC Suite, but it's been recommended to backup contacts again because apparently many have lost their contacts after doing a restore. So, I want to use PC Sync but I don't exactly know what sync is...it says sync with Microsoft Outlook but I've never used Microsoft Outlook, if I select to 'sync' will it backup my contacts on the computer, or will it replace the contacts on my phone with whats in Microsoft Outlook (which is nothing)?

Just wondering how to use the sync function, basically...?

Oh, and the new firmware has auto rotation a la iPhone!!!

Best way to store contacts is to go to your contact> mark all> copy to mass memory. That way just in case your backup didn't work you still have all the contacts backup and i will advise you to do backup of your phone memory on mass memory too using the inbuilt function in tools folder. And all your saved contacts will be saved in E:/ other? contact.
    Hope this helps.

And if anyone use the web on the phone with the inbuilt browser, here is a good news, opera mini has launched a new beta version, which is much faster and much much cheaper with better browsing. to download go to http://www.operamini.com/beta/ and my advise download signed version, have been using it from 1 week and really great. :) try it Your self.

I downloaded the new verion of nokia software undater, and it's still telling me that v15 us the latest version.

I really want the ASR and hopefully it will fix the Bluetooth, as its faily dodgy on the CK-7W car kit.

How many times can you change your product code? I have already done it once, usung NSS and now it wont read the phone.
Is there any other ways of doing this?
Also I hear that the new version of nokia software updater wont recognise a changed product code. Is this true? Hope not

Afaik you can change your product code as many time as you want and i am not sure about new software updater, i hope it's not true anyway. but the thing is that if you change your product code and update the firmware and change product code back. Nokia care center will still know that you did change your product code once.
And for the people who want to update firmware use this product code.
Change Productcode to 0558086 (Scandinavian code.. Has English + Scandinavian languages, no other localizations).

OK well don't have any idea. if you are using Vista you might do this step.
Right click on the NSS icon > Properties > Compatibility > under Compatibility mode set it to Windows XP (SP2)

Next Settings > Check Disable visual themes

Next Privilegel Level > check Run this program as administrator.
    hope this helps.

well if you change the product code and did firmware upgrade, it's not recommended to backup ( It might clash with the new firmware), you can only backup contacts, if you just want to update firmware and do backup, u will get all ur settings, contacts , messages and everyth except few java apps you might need to install again.

yeah then it's fine if you want to do hard reset and do backup after that, it will restore like the way you want except for few java apps as i said earlier.

    should work this time.

So just to confirm, you got past the updated Cable Driver problem, and you can now change a product code by using the Nemesis Software?
