Ive seen i mentioned in quite a few places that if your body does not have any food to burn it will turn to muscle as source of energy.

Just wondering at what rate this happens. How much would you expect to lose in muscle mass my simply missing a single meal.

While this is most certainly true, your body will uses it's muscle and liver glycogen stores before it turns to catabolism to provide energy... I couldn't see anyone losing any muscle mass by missing just a single meal, it could prevent optimal anabolism if you miss a meal, but honestly don't worry about a missed meal every now and then.

Nothing. At all. Don't over think it!! Stressing about that sort of thing will only create cortisol which will lead to the further breaking down of your muscles. Now THAT's something to worry about!!*

    *Not really!!

What Hanley said. Would also add that something like that would be almost impossible, if not impossible, to measure:) Again, we're talking about extremes here - where the body will go to break down muscle when deprived of food for a long period of time...think weeks and months not hours;)
