Garmin 2xx series - update your FIRMWARE

Folks - if any of you have Garmin nuvi 2xx series units - don't forget run the firmware updater. This is in addition to any updating of maps. This is done through MyGarmin - you don't need the DVD.
After I updated my firmware I got (I THINK) less flakiness, especially when using in pedestrian mode, no erratic "recalculating" when out in a perfectly clear open road and so far I have not had 20 minutes of "acquiring satellites" which happened way too often before.

I am still getting occasional oddities though - eg today I appeared to be driving through fields - only when I manually zoomed in did I see the roads I was on - and I'm not sure if it "rubber-banded" to these roads until I got back to the nearest village.

    db.
