sound of irony going straight over my head too...

I'd be considering lens pens as well.

Is a lens pen something to clean your sensor? I kinda need a new tripod.

I'd get a number of my shots printed up, larger than I currently have.

Other than that, 100 won't buy you much these days. Maybe a few filters?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,093 ✭✭✭TelePaul

Lameness. It's looking like a playstation game guys. Or a manfrotto. Or a light meter that I don't really need, I can push the boat out and live off pasta for the next month. Problem is I have no shots that are worth printing even once.

I'd second the lens pen if you don't already have one. How much memory do you have for the camera? Could always be worth investing in some more from memoryc. See other thread.

I've got like 2 gigs. Which I'd never ever need in one outing.

some of us fill seven gigs on an outing...more memory=good as cards can fail.

    Do you have a 50mm 1.8?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 broad_sword

maybe a couple of extra memory cards or a spare battery for those occasions when you're getting lots of good shooting!

Yeah, that'd be my idea of hell.

Yup! Have that base covered. Sure I'll jsut list my stuff:

    350D, 18-55 kit lens, 70-300 IS, 50mm 1.8, Polariser, remote release.

Maybe a battery. Or I could splash out on a battery grip....anyone know how much they go for?

lol, i bring 3x4gb Sandisk Extreme III with me always, 1 in camera and 2 on my keyring..

Got myself a new boxed BG-E1 for my old 300D today on adverts for just 35 quid. I'd spend it on memory or *shock horror* keep it and put it towards something later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,110 ✭✭✭Thirdfox

Camera centre had a Slik 300DX tripod for 95 euro... seemed stable enough for a small dSLR. Only extends to 1.4/1.5 metres though (with centre column raised).

Now...I've got 50 euro voucher (can use in spectra, camera centre or pixels) what should I buy? ;)

Oh and for 109.99 you can get a Lowepro slingshot AW 200 (I was considering getting that too).

Got my 50 euro from doing a brain scan (should have a jpeg of my brain for C&C soon! :D)

Conns are listing a manfrotto for €130. it's certainly a contender. I have a pretty fantatsic Lowepro bag, sorry, should've said.

I have the nifty fifty. It's just so awesome. I loves it. As for memory...to be honest, I'm kinda into walking around and getting ideas about a shot. I'll have a stroll around the place and go exploring before the camera even comes out of the bag. Then I'll compose a scene I like and take about ten different shots of it. Then I'll go home and drink tea.

Hmm how is the 728B better than the 718B? Seems like the 718 is lighter and goes higher and cheaper...

Huh? Dude, it's posts like that which are gonna force me to buy a playstation game! I'm so bad at photography. What's the 728B?

    Edit: OH! Tripods!

The 728 looks a bit sturdier from the photo, no?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,110 ✭✭✭Thirdfox

You were talking about the Manfrotto tripod in Conns... the 139 euro one is the 728b and the 99.99 euro one is the 718b but looking at the specs... the 718b seems better.

The Slik in Camera Centre has individually angle-adjustable legs though. And a really stable centre column (my 5 euro tripod's centre column tends to wobble a bit but then again the Slik/Manfrotto isn't really 20x better than my current aluminium tripod - hence the gear lust without an actual reason to buy).

    Get a good macro filter?

Yeah, sorry mate! I'm with ya. I think it has a bigger load capacity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,110 ✭✭✭Thirdfox

1 extra kg...worth the 40 euro, less height (both up and down) and extra weight? Not for me (but I don't have a D3/1D MkIII - in any case I wouldn't be using this tripod if I had one!)

Get a large print done on canvas or paper and hang it up.

If books, head into Chapters on Parnell Street or Borders in Blanchardstown. Prepare to spend a long time going through them. I was in borders on Saturday and picked up an excellent book by Stephen Shore called Uncommon Places. Well worth a look.

You like your lowepro bag right? Shouldn't we all have the benefit of having a lowepro bag? :D For only a measly E100 you can gain the immeasurable happiness of helping another photographer explore the wonderful world of the lowepro bag...

...forget it, just change the E100 into euro-cent and throw the whole lot down Grafton street - then take photos of the mayhem that follows. (If you do decide to do this I am in no way legally responsible if you get nabbed by the Gardai, do tell us when you're planning to do this so we can all have a boards meet up :D)

I got the 728b there a little while back, very nice. And you can adjust the angle of each leg individually. Good and sturdy.

Also is that my bag you were complementing Paul? It served me well.

    Get a grip.

Yep and now my brain hurts (fMRI scan) for a PhD project - we students whore ourselves out for money vouchers (I've hoping to get another two projects worth 25 and 30 euro respectively). Being a law student I have read their consent forms and it states that I probably won't mutate into a monster/gain superpowers (although I'm still secretly hoping...)

Was shown porn inside the scanner and was told to feel disinterested...trying being a male college student and getting told to be disinterested in naked women  Well hopefully I've contributed to further understanding the human mind (student + porn = interested).

I approve and would like to appeal of this product and or service. :D

A decent bag maybe? if you dont already have one that can hold laptop+gear.. it'd be handy?

    Something like this?:
    http://www.spectra.ie/store_ListProdMast.aspx?prodmastid=296
the compuday pack - sure would help in my photojournalist role...not sure if it'd hold all my gear though and it still costs 99 euro.

Mind you 4 hours in a giant fMRI scanner isn't great fun (sure you got to look at porn but you also had to look at some pretty gruesome images - decapitations/grievous bodily wounds etc. and feel "happy" etc.) Not for the claustrophobic either:

It was an interesting story...surely that's worth the 100 euro? Don't forget I was also traumatised by the photos of dismembered limbs etc. There were some really ghastly pictures included :(
