I used to make a lot of smoothies. However now I find it quicker just to eat the ingredients separately.

just eat the fruit it will be a lot better for you. Generally smoothies are packed full of sugar so I would think of them as something of a treat rather then something that people have as part of their general diet

It depends on what ones your talking about really. If its the carton style smoothies then they are usually packed with suger to keep them that bit longer.

If your going to have a smoothie make your own. I did read an article recently about smoothie machines. They say that the blades on smoothie machiens are different to normal blenders and chop the fruit up ever finer. This results in a lot of the proteins and vits being destroyed in the process.

If you make your own by throwing some fruit into a blender with water/skim milk/whey powder, they are great. However, the commercial ones are usually full of sugar, and missing all the fibre.

In the shop bought ones - like anything else you buy - read the ingredients and calorie breakdown.

Making your own you cotrol the ingredients. Make lots and freeze individual portions. Saves time as making one smoothie is work intensive with prep and cleanup.

Sounds like a load of bull to me. Does chewing destroy vits and proteins in a bad way.

I start my day with a homemade smoothie most days, My normal recipe is

    1cup frozen berry mix
    1cup oats
    2scoops protein
    2-3tbs of peanut butter
    1tbs olive oil
3-4raw eggs if i'm too lazy to cook them
top up with water and blend.

Blending up fruit definitely releases the fruit sugars fasting, potentially causing more damage to teeth and a quicker release of blood sugar. The blending breaks down the natural fibres of the fruit, releasing the sugar.
