Great price on the Peavy 6505+ there. I paid the guts of double that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,817 ✭✭✭✭Dord

I was in there yesterday, and very tempted by the TC-90 Fender. I checked reviews last night though and apparently it has a very narrow neck. Not good for me, I've got pretty big hands. :(

jsx is only 895 too, not a bad price at all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,110 ✭✭✭sei046

Looks like some decent prices alright, I was looking at a Peavey Valveking or Royal 8, although I'll probably wait until the Windsor becomes available as a combo.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,638 ✭✭✭bombidol

Go valve king at least man, Windsor aint great.

Was playing some of the Simon and Patrick guitars on sale there, some brilliant prices. It's a bit cramped in there with all the Waldens though :p

    Yeah it is!

I found there prices on peavey to be reasonable before the sale. I think they were cheaper than thomann, gak and music store by 100euro..

Real good price on that AKG kick drum mic too.Mmmmmm

Oooh that Soldano head is over 2 grand new on thomann. €750 looks a very tempting price. Loads of well priced stuff there. Might drop in tomorrow. Anyone know how long this sale has been on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,291 ✭✭✭-=al=-

    that the purple one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,992 ✭✭✭Johnny Storm

Fender G-Dec middle-aged geezer home combo for 150. (285 on Thomann, assuming its the same model)
I was strongly thinking of buying one of these a few months ago .....

That thing was a steal at €1300....€750 is just stupid tbh.

It's only single channel with no f/x loop, but get some good valves in there (if it doesnt already) and that thing will eat any amp for breakfast. If you can live with one channel and no loop, you'd be stupid not to buy it. I was half-thinking about it myself, til I remembered I have a Soldano already ;)

Went in this morning and bought an Ashdown ABM 500 2x10 combo for E399  They are E1014 from Thomann and E999 from Musicstore. I was in there at 10.15 am and another guy bought the same amp as me. So the word seems to be getting around.

Thanks for giving us the nod "Blackhorse Slim" :)

Went in and got the Ashdown ABM. It's all distorted when I turn it on. Any reason this would happen apart from it being f*cked?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,026 ✭✭✭Killaqueen!!!

Grrr..so annoyed, some good prices on amps there but I really shouldn't buy another one. Could do with an acoustic though! Big reductions on emerald guitars, are those the shiny green ones made out of carbon graphite? Wonder what they sound like. I remember yer man from the Eurovision ages ago played one! Anyone ever tried one? Or the other acoustics on sale there?

And HEY look at the price on their Line 6 Pod XT Pro?!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,291 ✭✭✭-=al=-

there really is a lot of nice deals there i jus had a 2nd look, a little tempted to get a jsx mini colossus

but i wont :) tsl 602 is nice price also

and if those emerald guitars are good enough for mickey hart they're good enough for me

EDIT: why is my signature to big all of a sudden, its been the same for the last 2 months?

I've never played an Emerald but I know that at least some of them use the Parker Fly fretboard and frets. And those fretboards and frets are just fantastic - I kid you not. I advise you to get in there and try one if you are in any way interested.

FWIW I was there in earlier and got myself an ex-demo G-Dec. It has "Smoke on the Water" and "Immigrant Song" presets - LOL! :D
If only it had a "Don't Fear the Reaper" preset I be totally made up :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,026 ✭✭✭Killaqueen!!!

^ Yeah, will definitely be going in. I should've gone today, hopefully they won't run out of these sale items soon!

I've never even played an Ovation or anything, so I dunno what to make of these non-wood bodies on guitars but will have a try. They look gorgous anyway! :) Well if it used to be 1800euros it can't be bad! But I can't find any price comparison, they don't sell em on thomann or GAK. I know thats a terrible way of figuring out if something is good or not but price is some indication!

I dunno if I'd have much use for the Line 6 Pod Pro but it's a damn good price. Also, thinking of getting a tele/aerodyne strat :D

Exact same thing happened with me. I thought the "sub harmonics" switch had jammed on "on". After about 15 minutes trying all the knobs it seemed to be alright. I'll try again later and report back. Let me know if yours comes right.

I think I got the 2nd last Emerald in there today. They said something about having one bigger one (?) and one that needs some minor repair and that was it.

I wouldn't even have considered it by the look of it (too thin for a decent sound I had thought) but a friend said try it and off I went. Supposedly down from €1700 to €500 but who believes those sale prices. I just found it easy to play and with a surprisingly deep sound. Its probably overkill for me as I haven't picked up a guitar in years but I'm pretty happy with it so far. Looks very weird though. Still its all about the sound.

The simon and patricks were still there and were sounding good. Also Seagull acoustics were pretty nice to play as well seeing as they are from the same makers. Would recommend those based on my brief experience.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,211 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Right, my abm is sounding better. Still not 100% though. Doctor J has one of these doesn't he? Are you able to shed a little light on this?

It's sounds a lot less distorted, but it doesn't seem to be able to handle deep sounds too well. If i turn on the valve drive and turn it all the way up, you don't get a sound.

You're joking...:( Really wanted to buy one. When did you buy it today? Cos they close at around 6pm so they might still have that last one. You don't think they'd let me reserve the last one do ya? And did you pay €500? It says the sale price is €399 (reduced from €1799).

When they said bigger one they may mean the X30 Auditiorium as opposed to the X10 Concert sized one. Did you get the X10, yeah?

Sorry for all the questions but really wanna snap one of these up! Especially if they're from the Artisan series.

Tried mine again. Everything seems to be alright. You could send Ashdown an e-mail. The customer service guy Martin, always replied quickly to any queries I had ( I also have the same combo in the MAG version).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,325 ✭✭✭Frankiestylee

I think they're closed tomorrow, or so a phone call earlier would suggest. I didn't realise this sale was so amazing, two drummers were on about it today and I thought I was in a bizarro universe with drumkits disappearing by the hour... turns out it's just a good sale.

Hiya. Yep I paid €500 which is interesting given what the pdf says.. Thats what it was marked as in the store though. I think they are open from about mid-day tommorow. Better be quick as when I got to the counter someone rang looking for the guitar too. I assume that must be the X30 that was left but I didn't see it on the floor. They may have put it out after that though.

Yep this is the X10 I have sitting here now. I saw a review on harmony central really praising the X30 so snap it up if you can it looks like.

Jaysus thats a sweet looking guitar. Congrats! They shouldn't be able to do that..charging more for what they said in their sale list. Did you hear the conversation on the phone? Did the ringer try and reserve it? I doubt I'll get it cos they're not open tomorrow and I'm in school all week. Could try going after school on Monday. Dunno if I'd make it in time for closing though. And it says on their website they're open Mon-Sat so they're not open tomorrow but I'll try ringing them anyway.

    Thanks for the info though!

I don't know if anyone reserved it or not, its a possibility though as someone went in the back to check it was still there I think. I wouldn't have thought there was such a big demand for these guitars as the company has gone out of business. These are the last few available though so I suppose that might have something to do with it. Looks like it will last a good long time too due to the carbon fibre body.

    Good luck with it.

I asked if they could hold me something yesterday and they said it was first come first serve on sale items, so you can't reserve anything then.

"Royal with Cheese" : Any updates on your amp ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,211 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

    Ummm...

Distortion is gone. Valve drive just doesn't work. It's like a volume switch basically. Turning it up is just like turning the volume down. It sounds like the speakers are a little dodge, but it could be something in the room. Gonna move it somewhere else and try it again. Either way I'm bringing it back tomorrow morning. They said they'd just swap it for another one. Hope there's some left. I wouldn't be too disappointed with the 115 either though, as long as they're the wide ones. The narrow ones are useless for stacking.

That's a bit frustrating alright. At least you dont have the hassle of repacking it and sending it off to Ashdown, then waiting for the UPS van to arrive. I'm sure they'll hold one for you when they know you're returning a faulty one. Let me know how you get on.

Yeah I know. I bought the Mag version about 6 months ago from soundslive.co.uk. So glad that the first dodgy piece of kit I've bought has been from a shop 10km away. Would hate to have to send it back to England/Germany or wherever.

They had a lot of Line6 heads boxed towards the back with pracetags on them so I would say so.

They had a Vetta HD head yesterday evening down from €2499 to €999, I'll be back in tomorrow early enough for a few bits and pieces. I was told the sale should be on for about another week too.
I felt a few of the more recent items had been put back in the storeroom so as not to steal the limelight from some genuinely decent offers. At least upstairs anyway, no space to browse in the guitars.

I noticed this too. I think the purpose of this sale is to try and shift the old stock as much as possible. Some of that stuff has been there for at least a year. I wonder if Music Maker have any new brands they're going to carry. hmmmm.... :)
