I have one of these remotes and I cant recommend it highly enough!

Komplett have them for over €200!

    So iBood's €90 + delivery of around €12, is a bargain.

Took the plunge. Should be better then the Lidl universal remotes that have served me well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,894 ✭✭✭Nunu

I'm interested in this...does anyone know if it can also substitute for a Sky+ remote and all the multi functionality that goes with it, like pausing live tv, recording and browsing through the EPG?

...actually what I really want to know is, if i get this universal remote it will replace about 30 remotes in my gaff so will it have every function that each seperate remote I will be discarding had?

Looking to buy a remote for my ps3 for the Bluray player. Just wondering if anyone knows if this could control the Ps3. Looks like a serious piece of kit and I really wanna jump on this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 392 ✭✭etcetc

Harmony Remote will not work with the ps3. There is no infrared and the ps3 only accepts blu-tooth. Wont work. sorry

    still worth buying

    might be a work around

Can I remote control ibood with this?

    Gotta love it!

would it work with my Xbox 360, Original Xbox and also my starview box ?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 3,073 ✭✭✭mickoneill30

It'll work with the original Xbox as that remote is infra red and the 885 is a learning remote. Dunno about the other 2. Does the 360 remote use infra red or bluetooth?

I had one of these.. They basically work with near everything out there. All the codes are on the net. Tis a sinch to use n set up and it'll learn any codes that u can't download onto it.

Just ordered one, at that price I couldn't resist (MSRP is GBP169/USD250).

Loads of info here on RemoteCentral; the same model in the USA is called the
    880.

Hopefully this will ship faster than my last order with IBOOD, the external USB
drive from last weekend which is still showing as 'in progress'.

    Another review here

Looked it up on Amazon (their reviews usually throw up whether its good or not). Feedback seems mixed, but I'm very tempted. Works with Sky+ and Xbox 360.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Interesting that the remote looks a bit different on the Ibood page and the Amazon page. The Amazon pics have the Red/Green/Yellow/Blue buttons used by Sky.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,489 ✭✭✭iMax

Excellent, I was bidding on ebay for a second hand one of these. Been looking for one for years.

I think they're clearing stock (possibly for a replacement model).

seesm to be issues with build quality/charging rather than it's technical performance. Worth a chance anyhoo so I ordered one too.

The macros are quite easy to setup too... Was handy pressing the xbox button. Tv would turn on to right input, 360 came on and amp came on and switched to right input...

I use the Sky buttons quite a bit, does it support all the functionality of the Sky remote? I made the mistake of buying the Tevion all-in-one from Aldi last year, it's never been used.

As regards the PS3, I have a USB dongle that I plug into the PS3 to use a remote control for the BluRay. I got it from Argos (http://www.argos.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=30001&langId=-1&catalogId=1500001101&productId=1500199085&Trail=C%24cip%3D1500013126.Video%2Bgames%3EC%24cip%3D1500013138.Playstation%2B3%3EC%24cip%3D1500013139.Playstation%2B3%2Bperipherals&categoryId=1500013139&clickfrom=name)
I assume is Infra-Red, would the harmony be able to learn this and repeat it through to the dongle?

Also, does anyone know if it works with the NTL DVR boxes?

Does anyone know if it would work with a computer (for playing movies, music, etc).
    Cheers.

If your computer has an infrared receiver, then I don't see why not.

I looked into these remotes a while back and lots of reviews said the Logitechs (including the 885) didn't have the ability to do macros. But it seems it worked grand for you?

I have a HTPC running Windows Media Center, a Samsung TV, a Yamaha AV Receiver, a Dreambox digital set-top bos, an Xbox 360, and a Nintendo Wii. Basically, I want a remote that will get rid of the 7 or so I currently have, but that will also allow me to just hit one button (say Media Center) and that will turn on the TV, set it to the right input, turn on the amp and set it to the right input etc. Will this actually do that?

I currently have lots of issues with interference - my Samsung TV struggles reading the instructions from the Samsung remote. Think the media center may be interfering with it somehow, so naturally would need to get that sorted first.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

Providing all the codes are avail for ur gear you should be able to set it up no probs... Its all software based.. Took me a while to get the TV right as I had to code for the wrong model but got it sorted.

I had macros for my 360, Sky and Wii... Basically set it to turn tv to right input, same with amp n turn on whatever the macro was set to. I think, but may be wrong that u can set the volume and settings for your amp n that too. Might have been another remote I had tho...

Don't think I'd go for it without the dedicated coloured buttons tbh. Trying to remember which button is which is just silly.

    Just ordered one. Thanks.

It seems that it does have the Sky coloured buttons and that it works fine with Sky+:

I have the little brother of this remote and i hate it. while it works the buttons on it just feel terrrible. Particularly the circular directional pad in the centre of the remote. it makes a horrible clicking noise everytime you press it. Very annoying if you want to skip through channels on the tv.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

    Sold out :(

I was on the fence all morning, and decided to take the plunge.
Frank got the last one... maybe (bastard) :)

Ah well.... might be able to grab one cheap on ebay.

I was reading a review earlier and it commented on how the buttons were much better than the rubbery buttons on the previous/other model (can't remeber which)

Well it won't really matter because the Starview boxes will be rendered useless in around 1-2 months when UPC switch to Nagra2 :(

Same goes for the Dbox2, Dreamboxes etc.

tbh it wasnt the rubber buttons that were the big problem. It was the circular directional pad. The only thing i use it for now is turning everything on and off at once.

Mr E. I put in an order for this this morning... it came back giving me an error, so i put in an order again. Ended up ordering it twice. I've emailed them to cancel one of the orders, but if they wont (and that is kind of likely given there service) then I will sell you the second one if you want.

I've owned two Logitech Harmony remotes; first was a 550 bought for EUR 65 from Komplett as a special offer some years ago. Very happy with it until daughter dropped it onto fireplace and it stopped working!
Got a different, slightly older and refurbished model from eBay about a year ago (sorry can't remember model no.). Virtually identical functionality but curvy - only reason being cheapest from Komplett was over EUR 80! Figured no point buying something expensive which can be broken (let's face it, who hasn't dropped the remote!).

Performance of both identical. Mono screen, lots of useful buttons, a few programmable 'soft' buttons, controls all devices, can be programmed for devices not in database. Only disadvantage is setting up takes time and is done using a type of web interface. A bit fiddly but hey, just need to do it once (or once in a while!). When I got replacement remote after original broke, I was able to transfer all settings even though 'new' remote was different model number! Nice ...

Quick look on eBay turned up this:
    eBay link
Don't know seller or this remote model myself, so as always caveat emptor!

Mine controls HTPC (as MCE remote replacement), TV, amp, AV switch, DVD, video (showing my age!). I've always had problems with at least one item with other universal remotes

Looks like I'm not the only one waiting :)

I received another IBOOD delivery today for a different item, it was shipped
on February 19th. So that's 7 days between me receiving the 'your item has
shipped' email and actually getting it.

I got shipping confirmation for the remote on February 22nd, so all going well
I expect to have it this coming Friday or Monday.
