    Hey folks,

Been eating a lot of porridge as of late though to be honest its starting to bore the pants off me. Have any of ye got any unusual tasty quirks that you add to your porridge. I've tried the following..

Fresh fruit and yogurt (nice but not everyday).
    Honey (Bit too sweet)
Peanut butter (Pleasantly suprised with that, really was tasty but very heavy)

    Any ideas??

    Cheers.

Cinnamon and raisins? Works for me!

    I did raisins too.

Broken walnuts are good, but not the crap ones you buy for cooking. They taste rank. Lidl's do superb walnuts.

Vanilla whey is nice if you have some.

Lump of jam is good too, just take a smidge from the lump with every spoon.

I'm sure others will have better ones.

I do my porridge in the microwave for a bit over 2 mins, and with about 20 secs to go I throw in a fistful of Aldi frozen berries (cheap and yum)!

    Other things I've tried:

Wheatgerm (good for vit B12 I think).
Tinned pears (surprisingly good :D ).
Avoca dried apple and seed mix (or any crushed seeds).
    Manuka honey.

    Must try the cinnamon thing....

Stewed apple or other stewed fruit is good - you can make lots in advance and freeze it in little portions. If you are feeling bold a spoonful of nutella makes a yummy porridge topping. :)

I add about 10 g of sunflower seeds to my 35 g of porridge.

    Try adding mixed seeds either!
    Walnuts are great too.

It's the extra crunch that does it for me :)

I put a small bit of honey or maple syrup in a bowl, put a tiny bit of milk in and dissolve it in, then a bit more and more. Now just add the oats and cold milk, don't bother cooking at all. I sometimes prefer it colder so leave it in the fridge to chill a while, if left overnight it soaks up really well, I used to leave my weetabix go soggy like that when I was a kid.

Dried banana is nice too, good & crunchy, but probably goes soggy in hot porridge.

I was porridge regular but I have moved onto oat bran which keeps you fuller longer and has more reported health benefits.

    Mixed with

Mixed nuts, raisins, milled flax, milled sunflower, milled pumpkins & honey
    or
    Fresh chopped pineapple & raisins
    or
Grapes, milled flax, milled sunflower, milled pumpkins

    Options are endless

just make sure you drink lots of water right after and through the day to get max benefits

yes! i do that as well, it's great, just gives it a bit more bite in your mouth.

also, dried fruits like pineapple and papaya are great in it, along with maple syrup. i tend to put all of the above in my cereal at the same time.

some great ideas in this thread though, i must get some cinnamon, and i want to try peanut butter in it
