Just got a call from Motorfind after advertising car on Carzone.ie. Are these are scamming friends.

Sounded every geniune, but the question is why would a company who offers finance to people wanting to buy a car, also search for the car for them.

Name another bank or financial institution that does this.

120e deposit and when the car is sold they return 110e.

I just told them that I wasnt interested.

Her name was Ann and she was ringing from their European Call Centre, she did offer to send an email to me confirming their details but thats unless information.

Thats mad. Imagine actually having a paid 9-5 job scamming people.
    Would your parents be proud?

We should start opening small call centers here to scam other people, like selling over priced housing to foreigners and natives

Dooh, been done already - called auctioneers.

Yes I got a call from 'John' last week-number was a Cyrpus prefix or so I believe.

When I said, 'no thanks, I will sell the call myslef' I was asked 'why-do you have people with finance approved'?

Their website is www.motor-find.co.uk More useless information therein.

(The tagline 'Find your dream car' is positioned next to a picture of an Almera :D)

I'd say one of these companies springs up every few months, i.e. 'Motor-Find' weren't mentioned as one to avoid on carzone. I might drop them a mail and get them to mention it in their registration info.

Stay away. Total scam. I was selling a mondeo estate last year and an English girl from an office in London , told me that for 120 euro she had 32,000 potential buyers. I love mondeo estates but I doubt that 32,000 other Irish people wanted my car.

If you think about it, it actually makes perfect sense. That said, it is a scam.

The scammers didn't take long to act you only put the ad up this morning is that correct?

A lot of these "car finder" companies are related and run by the same group of Greek Cypriots based out of London.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,941 ✭✭✭pclancy

I had the same within a few hours of advertising on Carzone. I hardly think exposing my car to thousands of UK matched-buyers would help. WTF would they be doing buying an Irish car?

We need to piss off these people more and waste their time when they ring us. That'll learn 'em ;)

Gotta love the terms and conditions, kind of a license to never sell it...:D
    9. We are not responsible for your vehicle not selling.

    10. We try and aid you with a sale by advertising your vehicle, but there are no guarantees of a sale.

These people are more Scummers than Scammers! I once got a call from a company in the UK promising to put me in direct contact with a potential buyer. I had already been warned to expect a call from them when I was putting the ad online. Told him to shove it and I wasn't falling for some cowboy scam. He just hung up the phone before I was finished berating him... he obviously was told to do that to irate Irish people when he was being trained in. I'd rather starve in the gutter than work for a company that I knew were conning people out of money.

Tell them to deposit €110 in your account, and that when the car sells, you will return €120 to their account...

Got the same call from +35725817639 a Cyprus number. Why in Gods name would people in England be interested in buying Irish cars? Higher prices, lower specs and it's not like there is a shortage of 2nd hand cars in England!
Like funk i'm giving my cedit card details to an unsolicited caller from the other side of the planet!

Another call was from a foreign gentleman (African sounding accent) asking me to cash his 20,000 bank draft and return the excess 9,000 via wire transfer. He was buying the car for his brother here in Ireland. Ya right.....

I also received e-mails from David Davison (or something like this) enquiring about my car. He had an English mobile number for me to ring him back on! Deleted the e-mail unfortunately so i cant put up his number.

It boggles the mind to think about this. Just how many people exactly fall for these scams if these tossers can afford to spend their days ringing numbers to pull this scam?

Benchmark, a groupscheme company will help arrange finance and source you out a deal on new cars. Not a scam job, they actually do it. As for second hand cars....dunno.

That african sounding guy is probably the phonejacker.
as maybe some of the others

What amazes me more, is the amount of people out there that will be strung along by these guys.

Got a call from Easy Car Sales.co.uk (or something similar) today. Sounded exactly like Motorfind (using a 0044 number like they used too), when I said "Im not interested in more advertising, thanks.." he hung up before I even finished.

A legitimate company would want to leave a good impression no matter the outcome.

But they probably had 48,432 people lined up to buy your V10!!

On a more stalkerish note.....you didn't happen to be driving around Limerick on wednesday? Saw a 04 Phaeton, and immediately thought its that dude from boards! (sad i know - puts head in hands)

Nah, unless it takes midnight trips by itself. Mine has the Audi S8 alloys and is a V10, dont think there are any others in the country (they are V6s).

I was told by the local petrol station last week, "you know thats an aweful big VW". Yep, sure is, "Never seen one before then I seen two of them here in the last fortnight". Too embarrassed to tell him that was my car in his petrol station both times. :o

I was called every second day by these 'companies' last year. All had the 0044 prefix and lovely laandahn accents. It got to the stage where the calls went along the lines of:

Have you got a car for sale?

    Yes, are you interested?

Well I work for a comp..

    **** off you thieving bastards.

I never did manage to get past thieving before they hung up. It became a challenge to get my full insult in before the line went dead.

Pain in the hole these companies, I just hang up the phone. Gets on my nerves, same as all the sh!te you get in the post, I just let it build up on the hall table, wait for a predpaid envelope to arrive and then cram it all into it and send it back to them. I get great pleasure in imagining an MBNA employee opening the envelope to find loads of offers from Lidl and my local pizza shop.

I've just got off the phone with a Daniel Myers from motorfind.
Said he had people in Kildare looking to buy my Jaguar 04. Not able to let me know how many.
Looked for E140 from me. Thankfully I said I was waiting for a call from Jaguar Ireland to see if they would sell it for me. I was told that they wouldn't give me the asking price. They provide finance for buyers, - but sure so do the banks. I asked why would someone contact an English company to buy an Irish Car.
Guy had me for a while, but thankfully funds tight at the moment, so I was reluctant to part with E140. He is ringing me back tomorrow for my answer. - I know what I'll be telling him
Googles them and got this site with all the scam info on it.
Thanks guys. Will wait for a genuine buyer.
    Y

When they ask you for your credit card details, just head off and tell them "ok I will find the card, I think its out in my car, give me 2 minutes to find it"
Then leave the phone down, maybe make a cup of tea, come back and tell them that "you are still looking"

See how long you can keep them on hold. If they ring back repeat the exercise.

Start talking about the weather, Eastenders etc etc. Waste the fukers money.

Free calls from the UK to Ireland. My house phone has free calls to the UK. But I have to hang up before 60min otherwise they start charging me.

But you would be wasting their time...

    Off the Motorfind website:
    http://www.carbaseuk.co.uk/item_show.php?code_no=92233

A snip at €35k, even though it's in poor condition.

just got a call from motorfind a few minutes ago coped the scam as soon as they asked 4 credit card details ****ing **** STAY AWAY FROM THESE.

Hi guys thanx for the post. I have also been pestered by this company and a few others in england saying similar.

The latest one is motor find and they seemed to be operating from a southern number. I suspected skullduggery and told neive that i had no credit card to hand and to call me back some time.

They were very persistant and kept stressing that they had ppl waiting to buy my car now. lol sounded too easy if you ask me - think i'll be keeping a wide berth from these scams as there is no way you can guarantee that they will put you in contact with an interested buyer or even receive your refund.

Just got a call from these guys too - a day after my ad went live on Carzone..

Me: "I'm not interested" (as soon as he said "Motor Find")
Bloke: "Would you mind telling me why sir?"
Me: "Because my ad explicitly says "No canvassers"
    Bloke: hangs up.

I had the same crap before when I put an ad on CBG a few years ago, that time it was within minutes of it appearing on the site.

Here's my car on Pistonheads in case any of you are in the market! he he!
    <SNIP> Nice try
