    From MSN Australia -
1.38pm: Alan Arkin is almost unrecognisable with his shaved head — if that is who it is — but the contenders are top drawer. And the winner is ... Tilda Swinton! Our Cate has missed out on the award she was more likely to win, but least she wasn't beaten by that smarmy little Irish girl.

    I lol'd

It says discussion on the thread, why didn't you discuss the results with yourself?;)

Well done to the British Islander winners, yeah. Daniel-Day Lewis was amazing in that film, far and away the best in my opinion. As for the women, I haven't seen any of those films.

That should be British Isles winners, shouldn't it.

Great, now Hollywood has decided to further validate those Whelan's ****. It's music for people who don't like music. How on Earth can you feel pride in this?

Are you saying falling slowly is music for people who don't like music? If so, what the hell does that mean? I have no doubt it has something to do with you being better than everyone else tho...

If I'm not mistaken its Glen Hansard thats being validated (as you put it) and not the frames.

I don't like the frames but in the context of that film the song is excellent.

Look past your taste in music buddy and feel pride in the fact that another Irishman has done something fantastic.

I'm not mad about the song, TB but I'm delighted they won. The movie was a little gem.

And there's something really cute about the Czech chick with the Dub accent. :)

    Congratulations to them both!!!

    And F*** the begrudgers.

I'm glad Falling Slowly won and also DDL, NCOFM and Javier Bardem wins

Shocked at Tilda's win for best supporting actress

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,820 ✭✭✭grames_bond

im delighted that glen got the recognition he deserves! im not a big fan by any stretch of the imagination but i think he defo deserved it! i cant believe transformers didnt get best visual effects....they had a truck that transformed into a 40 foot robot!! oh well!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,836 ✭✭✭Vokes

Yeh, Transformers was a nice blend of computer effects and real world effects. The Golden Compass' visuals were all a bit meh (except for the Bear fight - it didn't last long, but was quite good).

It's fine now.. I've split it off into a dedicated Oscars thread.

I would preferred to see Billy Crystal or Steve Martin host again but Jon Steward did an ok job presenting.

I was DDL and Falling Slowly won.

Jon Stewart was right to bring Mareta back to speak

The shocks were probably Marion's win and Tilda's win but both were deserved. Julie Christie and Cate Blanchett seemed locks to win.

The Coen acted like the couldn't care less they won i don't mind NCOFM taking best picture but PTA deserved best director.

James McAvoy and Josh Brolin were the funniest and best presenters.

Why wasn't Brad Renfro shown in the In Memorian segement he died before Ledger

    Apparently an editing decision URL="http://www.zap2it.com/tv/news/zap-bradrenfrooscardeathsnub,0,459232.story"]link[/URL:
Every year, an Oscar montage honors those in the movie world that died in the past year. The 80th Academy Awards montage, however, conspicuously left out one of the deceased: Brad Renfro.

A spokesperson for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences insists that the omission wasn't a snub.

"It was really an editing decision because we can't fit everyone in," the rep told Usmagazine.com. "There was no specific reason."

The video tribute featured nearly 50 people, including makeup artists and agents, among others, who probably aren't as recognizable to the general public as Renfro. The tribute ended with footage of "Brokeback Mountain" nominee Heath Ledger, who died a week after Renfro.

Renfro died of a heroin overdose in Los Angeles on Jan. 15. He was 25.

Judging by the many comments linked with the article, people don't believe their excuses at all.

    Happy with

    Marion's win
    Jarvier's win
    DDL win
    Once's best song win
James McAvoy and Josh Brolin presenting
    Colin Farrell presenting
    NCFOM winning best picture

    Disappointed

Paul Thomas Anderson no winning best director
    Jon Stewart Hosting
    In Memorian Segement

Just watched the the Oscars there and delighted for Glen great song compared to the rest of the drivel nominated in that catagory! Also did anyone see Cate Blanchett's reaction when Forrest was calling out the winner of Best actress, I think she mis-heard and thought she had won :)
