Also, we are always encouraged to call a spade a spade.

If they were one and the same surely we would be calling a spade a shovel.
But ... but ... but ... I didn't say they were the same!

I illustrated / explained the difference between them!

Why does a shovel look more like spade and yet a spade doesn't look like a spade.

True enough! In the suits originally, the Spade represented the military (and is meant to represent the head of a ceremonial spear) while agriculture was represented by the Club (leaf). The names we use have changed a lot over the years.

So let's call a spade a shovel Randy.

    Nowadays you call spades shovels.

What do you call a spade with a broken handle?

is it a "spa" or a "de"

Yesterday I had three spades, now I have two! I'll keep them in the shed together, with a bit of luck they'll make another one for me.

The tines on the tip of my knife
scratch the skin of the earth
openning a sore I can push the blade into
    lifting soil across its width.

The point searches the dirt beneath.
    The fork catches roots between.
With a twist and gentle pulling,
I bring the stock up to me.
