I'm investigating setting up an indoor airsoft arena in the south Dublin Area. I have access to an empty fully operational new warehouse with full car parking and security. Anyone who wants to submit ideas for ground layouts etc more than welcome.

    Thanks, Daithi.

Well what are we looking at, what are the dementions?

If you give us a floor plan with doors and the like marked in on it, we can draw what we would like on it.

    Sounds really cool though.

Sounds good indeed for us Sourtherners and CQB-starved since "HRTA 2" ;)

    Sandyford, by any chance?

Groundfloor dimensions would help, as noted by Genghiz - obviously excluding any portion you'd already have earmarked as the reception/changing/AEG-unpacking/safe-zone/staging area.

Two-/or Split-levels would be fab, that's if (i) you can implement it and (ii) your insurer accomodates it.

Generally, I'd say you'll want a portion with interconnecting 'rooms' (each with at least two exits) and an 'open' portion in the middle/down the sides to permit engagement at range. Ideally, ensure any engagement can take place between 5 to 20 meters, but not less (else it's likely to become be known as the "bang kill house" ;))

Lots of murder holes to pour a bag of bbs down. :D

Super. Where abouts in south Dublin?

Also, if you need help in the installation of cover ect I'm open to helping if it means I wont spend an hour getting to a skirmish.

That's cool the more sites the better, and a full time CQB site would be well appreciated i'm sure

would definitely love to see an indoor cqb site in a nice big warehouse, southside is even better :)

if you need any help, just ask, there are plenty of us here who are more than willing to help get a new site off the ground

Well seeing as it's a warehouse why not just use pretend stock and have a warehouse setup. The kind of shelving that's in warehouses should be available 2nd hand dirt cheap (and probably damaged but it won't need to hold any weight) after that a load of empty boxes, oil barrels and pallets would make the whole scene look authentic. I'd assume raiding warehouses would be a fairly common occurrence for police forces around the world.

Sounds good, good luck with it! Where is it located? I might actually start skirmishing again if it's nearby! :D

Planning on adjustable layout or a fixed one? Either way this would be kick ass.

Two levels would bring allot of problems for the site owner though. the risk of someone falling down the stairs would be high. Especially with your vision restricted.

    QFT.

Does anyone remembers the Quazar arena in Tallaght which used to be themed on 2029AD from the Terminator (and was called "Terminator Quazar")? It was multi-level but they removed the ramps a few years later due to risk of people slipping, etc.

A shame because it was a fantastic arena at the time.

    Excellent idea.
Please don't just fill it with pallets and wooden walls, its about time Ireland got a decent, realistic CQB arena. This looks promising. :)

to be honest i think its a shame people would be mentioning things like "slipping on the stairs" and all that cr*p., its a war game for jasus sake.,lol, if we go there to play then we should at least accept that we might trip over just as we might when we walk down o connell street or when your going to bed at night.,
i know if i fall i wont to cryin like a baby, (well not while you lot are looking) and bitching about it, just brush yourself off and get back in the game., :)

the site must be more tactical without risking the operatives. try to watch this video, i hope will give you bit of idea. just cant wait to that cqb site to be open.

Unfortunately you also have to take into consideration what the insurance suits say they will or will not cover. It they decide "sorry not with that in there", then you're stuffed.

I'm not saying not to bother with multi-level set-ups, I'm just pointing out what may be an issue concerning site insurance. This isn't so much an issue for players, but it is for site operators since not all players will just shrug and say "hazards of the game"

I quite like that too. I can just picture close-fighting, cardboard boxes getting riddled with BBs all around, plastic goblets flying about - John Woo with plastic BBs, Hell Yeah!!! :D

Damn.. Gonna have to get me a '5K again! (I can hear tonyj_mc laughing his head off from here  :D)

is insurance a legal requirement? i dont know anything as far as thats concerned but id be happy to sign a waiver before going in, giving me full responsibility for my own health and safety and if the site operated this as a policy then there wouldnt be any problems would there?

I agree but say you fall down the stairs and end up in a comma would your family think about it the same way.

Most airsofters would run into any place like this blindly too, we need to be protected against our selfs to a certain extent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,156 ✭✭✭tonyj_mc

and to get slightly more on topic this sounds pretty slick like the idea of the warehouse set up, should be eay enough to set and customise

plus all it takes in one person to sue the site and insurance or not it'll be closed down

yeah i have to agree anything other then pallets...i am all palletted out...

also would it be possible for night or darkened options....say limited lighting (again conscious of the insurance issue)

so to give you an idea....

each team gets control of the lights each round...so assault can use it for the beginning of an attack

or the defenders can use it to cover where they are....

would be excellent with tracer and nvg....and would be really cool with snipers...yes the most boring people on the planet have a use here ...LOL

the other thing i would like is for some of the walls to be covered with cardboard. so have say 5 entrances walled up with cardboard allowing the SWAT/SPEC OPS/ARU to sneak in via cutting or simulate a breach....add some cheap strobe lights with an on and off switch and bingo we are engrossed...

also on a smaller point...great for the rain..

I like the idea of some indoor arena, the indoors section in hrta was fun especialy durng the rain. if its done well, then it can be a lot of fun, I just need to get a 2nd deagle for the full john woo experience

well all have an mp5 by the end of the week my m4 would be too big for that:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

If this goes ahead I'm going shotgun hunting. My little MP7 comes into it's own in CQB and a decent shotgun, one of those Marui Tr-Barrel models for example, would be a damn useful unit to have with you.

As much as I love open-field warfare, I love fibua even more. I might even get an AUG A1 and a box of real-caps and go back through my old drills.

a grated floor might be a good idea if it is to be a permanant site where you wont get to sweep the whole place after each day as it means the bb's can fall through and people can still move about without sliding all over the place.

    <Raises hand>
I for one have broken couple flash hiders, a hop and a fore-sight from slipping on bbs while running for cover.

it could be done with metal grates to give a meat factory look or on the cheap with the rubber mats that you find in saunas and swimming pools. they just roll out and can be cut to shapr.
