    Hi All,

I don't often post here but I could not find any threads that answered my question. Basically I tore my thigh muscle about 2 years ago. It was a bad tear which caused a LOT of pain both instantly and then also when I walked. This was followed by a large bruise that went most of the way down my leg. Stupidly I never went to a doctor or physio with it as at the time I just did not have the money.

My problem is this. I am by no means fit and have kept away from pretty much all training since this happened. I now want to get back into it but I'm worried that I will be unable to due to this injury. It does cause me pain occasionally if I strain my leg too much. Is it safe for me to do any training???

Try this rehab work on it. I'm not sure of it's efficacy on chronic injuries but from conversations with my bro (physio) they just take longer as you've built up bad muscle for want of a better term (the scar tissue didn't grow in a manner that supports effecient work)

God my English is terirble this morning.

BTW how did you cause the tear in the first place?

Dude, you should have someone take a look at your leg before you start putting it under strain. Its not worth making things worse.

Which muscle in your thigh did you tear?
    http://www.exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html

How is its compared to the other leg in terms of stretch and strain?
What happens when you walk for 30 minutes?
Can you climb four flights of stairs before it hurts?

I wouldn't put it under load until I had someone look at it.
In my experience physio therapist will tell you about movement and physical therapist will tell you about muscle.

A €60 session now could save you €€€ in a few months.

A physio's opinion is required. This isn't something you can get an answer to on Boards

OP, you will HAVE to see a therapist about this. Whether it be Sports Massage Therapist, Physical Therapist or Physio.

There's going to be a huge amount of scar tissue built up in the area especially if it's the thigh. The new scar tissue will have formed in a hap-hazard way and not re-aligned the way it should. Friction work & particular soft tissue work to the area by a Therapist will introduce fluids, hyperaemia to the area which will re-align the scar tissue to lie the way it is meant to.

Do not go and begin to do exercise before getting it seen to. Again, as it's your thigh and you don't know which muscle it is and because that large amount of bruising occurred you need to have it checked out. Doing any exercise will more than likely cause more trauma to the area and especially because it's the thigh, Rec Fem in the Quads atrophies quickest so you will more than likely injure yourself.

    Hi All,

Thanks for the replies (even though I now feel worse than I did already!). I guess I will go and get it checked out. It was the Rectus Femoris that tore and I supppose that the fact it does hurt under strain should have been enough to get me to a professional in the firet place!

    Here's hoping it goes well!!!!!!!!!!
