I love this show. Its on Channel 4 / E4 on Tuesday nights.

The Maguires seem to be taking over from the Gallaghers this series.

I hope Lip and Shelia return in this series.

One of the best shows around now.

But I disagree, I dont want Sheila back, she was way too OTT and found it difficult to understand her sometimes.

    The Maguires are class alright.

    I love this show.

I would love to see Kev, Veronica, Marty, Steve and Fiona back for one episode at least.

Lip and Shelia are to return during this season if rumours are correct

Lip was back in the first or second episode and there was an issue with a girl from Uni!

This is one programme that has improved as the series go on! I love Mickey Maguire also - he is gas. But has anyone got a link to what Frank looks like in real life?? I have never seen him interviewed.

Yeah I love Mickey too. His walk is hilarious.

David Threlfall is the guy who plays Frank. Here are some pics...

The actor who plays Frank was in a film made in the 70s called Scum. It was Ray Winstone's first film. It was set in a borstal in the UK. You would never believe that the character called Archer is Frank Gallagher. Worth a look if you get a chance. Fairly gruesome- be warned.
Didn't enjoy last nights episode. Frank sober for an entire episode !

Norma is hilarious. Is it the fact that she is a BFL (Big Fat Lesbian) that people object to?! Monica is supposed to be a hideous character - like Frank. I think she is played really well too.

ATM this is the only show I can be bothered with. Fantastic stuff. Met David Threlfall (Frank) at the City of Manchester Stadium last November. Posed happily for photos with me (taken by steward who was yanked into the stand). Decent skin. As soon as I said I wouldn't bother him after the snap he chilled and we had a brief chat. Big City supporter (see recent edition of 442). The poor lad with him (poss. his son) was scarlehhh. Then we won (hate that Roy Keane) then I went back to hotel (on Guy Fawkes night) which I only found out after a visit to tripadvisor.com is actually sitting in the middle of "Chatsworth"... might explain the endless car alarms ala Paul Calf

I watched it last night and I think Norma (and the actress who plays her) has redeemed herself as a character. Up until that episode I thought here
character was a bit one dimensional.
Kudos to whoever cast her in that role.

Series has been hit and miss this season IMO....veering way too far down the soap opera route (as evidenced by the Ch4 announcer quipping "...and next on Ch4, Hollyoa....err, Shameless" a few weeks back)
I switched off a few weeks back during that ep where Frank fell in love at first sight....but then again I got some great laughs out of the last one on E4 just passed. I don't know though, I preferred the Maguires when they were on the periphery...the storylines surrounding them humanise them too much and make them seem less believable or something, at least WRT them being the "bad guys".
Still an excellent hour's viewing for the most part...it's coped better than I thought it would with the loss of so many characters.

Not to ruin it for those who watch on C4 but the very last line ("Get Her")on E4 last night was pure class....

I think this show has really gone down hill the last couple of years. It jumed the shark after Fiona left.

The show just seems to revolve around Frank and how "mad" Frank he is. Bring back Steve and Fiona

Channel 4's Shameless is back again, as filming begins on series six of the multi award-winning drama series.

The Gallaghers, The Maguires, and all the lawless, loveable characters of the Chatsworth Estate return for 16 new and unpredictable episodes for 2009.

This series promises benefit fraud, brothels, stints in jail and stings gone wrong, with fake suicides, cold turkey, joyriding, lesbian romps, lingerie parties, revenge and a trip to the seaside to boot - all life-affirming events in the world of this Manchester estate.

Debbie (Rebecca Ryan) hits sweet sixteen and the Gallaghers are going to celebrate the only way they know how - a party! Frank (David Threlfall) suffers post natal depression with baby number nine - while Monica (Annabel Apsion) is busy re-decorating the house and regaining her womanhood. Micky Maguire (Ciaran Griffiths) goes to college and discovers a talent for porn, plus his ‘Madchester' tours in his pink limo get him and brother Shane (Nicky Evans) into trouble. Liam's (Johnny Bennett) talents continue to burst out when school discovers his leaning towards genius.

New this series, there's feisty auxiliary nurse Maxine (Joanna Higson), who after seducing Carl (Elliott Tittensor) gets her feet firmly under the Gallagher's table when she becomes best mates and clubbing partner with Debbie, and Mandy (Samantha Siddall) meets a charismatic new love interest Joe (Ben Batt).

Some sinister dealings and the breakdown of family on the Chatsworth Estate sets a darker tone to series six. The highly un-orthodox yet extremely tightly knit Gallagher family is torn apart, while the Maguires' past deeds finally come back to haunt them. Even Yvonne (Kelli Hollis) has some serious explaining to do when an unexpected visitor turns up. How will they all cope?

Cracks appear in Karen (Rebecca Atkinson) and Jamie's (Aaron McCusker) marriage and Paddy Maguire (Sean Gilder) discovers that temptation comes in various forms. Ian (Gerard Kearns) questions if Chatsworth is the place for him and introduces a strange newcomer to the estate; whilst Norma (Dystin Johnston) makes a grim discovery while refurbishing The Jockey, and a grimmer one, when she goes in search of her own past.

Producer Lawrence Till, says: "I am delighted to be Producing the next series of Shameless and to be making television that I would want to watch. Series 6 is exciting, ambitious and daring - taking stories into areas we don't know and places we have never been. We can delight in the surprising nature of ordinary people with drama that unpeels the enormous emotional complexity of their lives".

Camilla Campbell, Commissioning Editor for Channel 4 Drama says: "Shameless continues to be a drama series that Channel 4 is incredibly proud of; there is nothing like it on British television and it consistently attracts a large and devoted audience. This series strikes at what has always been the heart of Shameless - the trials and tribulations of family"

Paul Abbott has personally mentored and brought together a diverse and talented pool of writers to work on Shameless 6 and includes: Ed McCardie, Sarah Hooper, Jimmy Dowdall, Tom Higgins, Jack Lothian, Ian Kershaw, Davey Jones, Malcolm Campbell, Tracy Brabin, Emma Taylor, Paul Tomalin and Alex Ganley.

Class. One of my favourite programmes ever. I don't think it's gone downhill one bit but unfortunately a lot of great characters don't stay around long - still though, they're always replaced by equally good ones and the writing and acting is of a superior standard at all times.

Serious eye candy too - two of the Maguire boys are just so goddam hot (not the scraggly haired guy)!

I love it too, but the last series did go downhill.

The way the reduced the average age of the characters made it a bit "Hollyoaks in the slums".

Bring back Kev and Veronica and more 30 somethings please.

I thought the last series was fantastic - don't really understand why people didn't like it.
The turnover of the cast is neccessary in a series like Shameless otherwise it would become stale. If Frank leaves the series should end, but apart from that any cast changes are fair game.

Woody Harrelson is to star in a US remake of hit Channel 4 show 'Shameless'.

The programme's British creator Paul Abbot revealed that the former 'Cheers' star, will play layabout father Frank Gallagher when the hit comedy drama about a dysfunctional working class family's adventures on a run-down housing estate is remade for a US audience.

Abbott told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "I was thinking about a number of names including James Woods and Steve Buscemi but Woody will be great."

The show has also attracted the talents of John Wells, the award-winning producer of 'ER' and 'The West Wing', but Abbott believes its outrageous antics may have to be watered down for an American audience.

The original show is set for its fifth series after gaining huge popularity and many awards.

Such has been its success that it has now been granted its own permanent set, which was opened yesterday (23.04.07) at a ceremony in Manchester. The new series will feature 16 episodes, double that of past runs.

The fictional Chatsworth Estate has been replicated using a real housing estate in the West Gorton district of Manchester. Channel 4 chiefs spent £250,000 on the set, recreating the dirty look of the original by dumping rubbish, old cars, household appliances and shopping trolleys.

Abbott claimed: "We plan to make it bigger and better."

I really cant see how the show would work in US

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 542 ✭✭✭lady_j

Well actually I think it could... as long as the shameless is just the springboard for the idea. Shameless itself is very british, but the concept could definitely translate to american stereotypes!

Imagine how extreme the American one would be with a white trash alabama family or something.... it could be amazing !!

Apparently David Threlfall (Frank) is now an Executive Producer on the show too!

Shameless star David Threlfall is finally set to join Coronation Street.

The actor has built up a huge following playing drunken Frank Gallagher in the cult Channel 4 show.

Until now he has politely turned down an open invitation to star on the Corrie cobbles.

But Shameless has been hit by the credit crunch and the series has been cut from 16 shows to just eight next year.

And David, 55, feels the time is now right to join the soap.

A source close to the star said: “Corrie have been trying to get him for ages but David remained loyal to Shameless.

Frank is the show’s *central character and he felt he’d be *letting everyone down if he was to go.

“Let’s face it, without Frank they would definitely struggle.

“The clincher has been the decision by Shameless bosses to cut the proposed seventh series by half. The fifth and sixth series have run for 16 episodes.

“But due to the credit crunch, the show’s chiefs have been forced to slash the next one to just eight episodes.”

Corrie bosses recently approached David as they wanted him to be the head of their new family the Windasses.

But he was offered the opportunity to direct episodes of Shameless and he took that option instead.

Our source added: “David does comedy drama but he doesn’t want to be the new Les Battersby or just a Frank clone.

“It’s going to be very interesting to see what the scriptwriters come up with.

“The last time they spoke they told him to contact them as soon as he was ready and they’d write a part especially for him.

“I’m certain that an announcement will be made by the end of the year.”

    From Star on Sunday

    No Frank no Shameless :(

The seventh series of Shameless is expected to be cut from sixteen episodes to eight due to cost-cutting at Channel 4.

Filming for the award-winning comedy-drama, which is produced by Company Television, will resume next year. The episodes are currently pencilled in for transmission in early 2010.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, the programme's lead actor David Threlfall (Frank Gallagher) confirmed that funding problems at Channel 4 are likely to affect the seventh run.

"There will be a series seven, but we only know there'll be eight episodes instead of 16 because of the credit crunch - but hopefully that might change," Threlfall told the newspaper. "There are discussions at the highest level about it."

The programme's fifth series consisted of sixteen episodes earlier this year. Series six, which starts in 2009, will also run for sixteen weeks.

A show insider told The Guardian: "Obviously Company want to make 16 episodes but at the moment Channel 4 is insistent that there will only be eight. It is a delicate situation and David has rather let the cat out of the bag. We are hoping that this might change."

A spokeswoman for Channel 4 said that the network could not confirm the length of series seven, adding: "Budgets for that year are still under negotiation."

There will be a series 7 short but sweet :D
