Just ordered the Japanese English version from Play-Asia. 40 euro delivered, can't wait!

Hopefully this is alot better than Blue Dragon.
    Anyone else taking the plunge?

Was very tempted, but just don't have the time at the moment. I've a bunch of games I still haven't finished since Christmas and I'm in 4th year in uni so free time isn't in an abundance... June can't come fast enough!!

Might pick it up after a few months. Judging by Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata's pricing it should drop by 40% within 2 months of release? Good for us who like RPG's on 360 I guess, bad for publishers as they're clearly selling poorly.

Ehh...hang on a sec. Is this out already? And whats the story with the jap-english version...Japanese with English subtitles, or can you have English voices too? If it is already out, i'm going home early to oreder it (damn work and its stupid proxy )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,326 ✭✭✭Zapp Brannigan

I think it's full english voicing. I'm sure the option is there to have the Japanese voices though.

Aye I don't really have the time myself but I'll dip into it whenever I can.

Still have to get through Odin Sphere which will take a while since I haven't much time and the game is bastard hard. Hopefully I'll be finished for the US launch.

Just ordered this as well. Really looking forward to it.

Looks great apart from the somewhat antiquated turn based gameplay! do people actually like that still?

When it's done right it's great. Final Fantasy X was turn based and the battle system in that game was absolute genius. It was much better than the rubbish real time system in Final Fantasy XII and the horror of a western D&D hack and slash.

I see your point, it's just an instant turn off for me. It's up there with muscials on my hate list!

I ordered it from play-asia there. Damn i'm looking forward to this game.

Can anyone confirm if it's Jap with Eng subs or English audio or both?

Will have to get this if it's English audio as I hate listening to Japanese.

Are you sure the English version of Lost Odyssey is region free?
I didn't notice that it is.

Yup definitely works on PAL systems. It doesn't work on NTSC-US though.

Shipped this morning. Should have it for the start of my holidays next week!

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,282 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Ya, shipped for me there as well. Anyone know how long delivery from play-asia usually takes? It said 5-10 days. Is it closer to the 5 or 10 (yes, i really want to play this).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,572 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

6 or 7 working days, in my experience. You'll get it next Thursday or Friday.
I got GH2 a few weeks ago - shipped on Monday, arrived Wednesday of the following week.

Got this a couple of days ago and first impressions are overwhelmingly positive.

It's too early to judge the battle system but it looks like a solid foundation and I've no problems with it so far.

More importantly, the story is excellent. In particular the absolutely brilliant flashback sequences that you frequently come accross. There's already been a number of really memorable moments and I'm enjoying it a lot.

Aswell, the music is fantastic. Probably the best soundtrack to a JRPG since the Final Fantasy games on PS1.

Only downside is that the graphics are a little underwhelming. After recently playing through Uncharted and even Mass Effect, I can't help thinking the game would be well served by a much better facial animation system but it seems little better than a PS2 game in that area. I guess you can't have everything though.

Not too bothered about the graphics. As long as the dev's put enough time into the combat system and story I'm not too fussed about the graphics in an RPG.

I'd normally say the same, but having seen just how much the facial animations in Uncharted really help purvey the characters' emotions in any given scene, I think that's something that RPGs could really benefit from this gen.

Don't get me wrong though, Lost Odyssey is brilliant. I was just nitpicking really so my post wouldn't sound too gushing :)

Good to hear some positive feedback. Really looking forward to this now, although I am still trying to get through Drangon Quest 8 (most unfogiving RPG I've ever played) and FFX.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,282 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

I was gonna buy that on Saturday (only €45 in Smyths), but i figured i'd wait till after Lost Odyssey. Dont like playing to proper RPG's at the same time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,326 ✭✭✭Zapp Brannigan

Its 30 euro in GAME and definitely worth a pop at that. I think someone also saw it for 20 euro pre-owned in Xtra Vision. It also ties in with a module on my course this year, Chopin!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 105 ✭✭omalleyTown

    East or West?

The Asia version has better box art and bigger box which makes it much more classier. Also its €10 cheaper.

The American and European versions (allegedly) have less frame rate drops and less technical glitches in general. If thats true its worth the extra €10 (especially after Mass Effect)

Can anyone confirm this or at least confirm that the American + Europe versions have the Japanese voice track?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,282 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

If my copy of Lost Odyssey isnt delivered today, so help me i'll.....i'll....go buy another game. :(

Interesting. Maybe i will get this today then. Need something to play this weekend, and i dont even have my copy of Mass Effect to play (damn brother borrowing stuff )

As far as i know, all the version have English, Japanese, Spanish (German?), French and Italian. Not 100% sure though. The Jap one allows you to pick whichever language you want.

I dont like the sound of that...although i didnt have any issues with Mass Effect.

Ditto. On the plus side, I got a loan of DMC4 so that should keep me occupied. I may go back to COD4 on Veteran as well.

    Arrrrrrrggggghhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Got Mass Effect back though, so i'll play that instead....stil though...Arrrrrrrggggghhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Texture pops and frame rate drops wont ruin a game for me but its really really annoying.
The "elastic man" glitch combined with the terrible autosave forced me to replay about an hour of the game.

The strangest thing is most people complained over the loading times. I thought there was nothing wrong with them. I loved how the incorporated most of them into the gameplay (lifts).

But its the same with Lost Odyssey. Everyone is bitching over a 12-16 sec load for battles (transition screen + camera pans) as if battle loads never existed before. Maybe they were hoping "next-gen" would make dvds magical.

Got it today played it for about half an hour but gonna hop in after dinner.

First impressions, graphics do seem a little lacking (facial animations and hair mainly), and there does seem to be some graphical slowdown. No opinion on the story yet as I've just reached the opening title. But it looks promising!

American version it is then. Things can only get better

I got mine yesterday. Played it for about 2 hours, and so far i like it. Story seems nice and solid, with a much more adult theme then alot of rpg's that i have played. Graphics are good, just not up to Mass Effect standards.

Music so far is brilliant, as is expected from Nobuo Uematsu. Some of it feels like his earlier stuff (FFVI and FFVII), which is great. Voices are also pretty solid, although certain characters and sentances can still be annoying at times.

The combat is pretty good too, but maybe not as fluid as FFX's combat was. The formations (characters at the front or back of a fight) do make quite a bit of difference though. Fought a boss, which kicked my ass, till i put two people in the back. The guy in front then guards everyone else, and the people in the back take far less damage then normal. Its quite helpful, as your casters have **** all health.

Overall, i'm impressed, but it's gonna be the weekend before i can play again.

Glad to see that they haven't been stingy with the Achievements on this one (I got a total of 30 achievement points for blue dragon and spent 45hrs playing it:eek:). You get 500 for just finishing the game.

Graphics wise I'm actually more impressed than I thought I would be. Music is superb. All in all it is slightly reminiscent of FFVII i.e. industrial magic and all that lark. Looking forward to getting into it big time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,324 ✭✭✭chrislad

Mine just arrived. See you in a month :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,324 ✭✭✭chrislad

Had a quick half hour. I know I'm going to love this. I wasn't a massive fan of Blue Dragon but this is much more in the vein of FFX, which I loved to pieces. About time the 360 got a game in this style.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,326 ✭✭✭Zapp Brannigan

Have to say i'm severely unimpressed by the graphics in this game (and I know I said they didn't matter earlier  ) some of the cutscenes seem like its back on the original xbox and there's a lot of loading.

The story hasn't gripped me yet but I'll give it awhile as these games usually take a few hours to get anywhere. The dream sequences are nicely done though.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,723 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

Roll on the pc version of MA for proper visuals.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,324 ✭✭✭chrislad

Graphics are fine, in my opinion. I'm looking for gameplay in these though and the graphics are far more interesting to look at than Blue Dragon. It's not miles better than FFX but again, it's not a major issue for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,024 ✭✭✭✭ShaneU

Graphics are fine for me too, don't see why anyone is complaining.
