Now that January is over, I suggest everyone post their favourite photo taken in January with maybe a note why. One photo per person.

Why ?

First time in Botanic Gardens with camera

First "Macro style" photo (which makes me think more re Macro style photos and to get a Macro lens Nikon Telephoto AF Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR (Vibration Reduction) Autofocus )

I spent a while in the living room with my amaryllis and a spotlight one night, and was quite chuffed with this:



even though it's meant to sit in a pair with this one, which most people seemed to prefer, I think the first is my favourite especially on black.

I quite like this portrait of a friend of ours at the going away party for her before she went back to France. I decided to try out my new speedlite!

Great idea for this topic Rory.

I spent most of January in Western Australia and managed to take about 3000 photos so its hard to pick a particular favourite. I've chosen this one because it combines several of the things that made the trip so enjoyable, the wide open spaces, the weather, the beach, the lifestyle out there and getting to visit my sisters homes and meet their in laws and friends.

I didn't get out much in January with the crappy weather, and wasn't too fond of the pictures I took when I did make it out, so this is my favourite. It's my son, so there's that, and he looks like he's auditioning for scream 4

I took this on Bourgas Beach, Bulgaria.....It had snowed a couple of days previous and the snow was half melted on the rocks, thought it looked nice.

My top shot from Jan, taken in Donabate, Co Dublin. I got my feet wet getting this one, which made the end result all the more rewarding

Also really happy with some experimental processing on this. Kinda just took a run at it without really knowing where I was going, and I think it turned out really well.

Great idea for a thread Rory, I second the suggestion of making this monthly.

There are some great shots so far.

Here's one of my favourites from Jan:


I have been to Glendalough a number of times and this is the first time the water was still enough for reflections.

Shakey, never seen anything like that before, whats that on those rocks? Amazing! And CountryJimbo, that shot is beautiful, amazing light for January!

This probably is my fav, because it was so beautiful out there that day and even though the picture doesn't show it, it will remind me of it!

Out of the above Jan pics so far - my fav would be those from either m_stan or hughchal. Of course they're all good though!

I've probably taken better, but if I'm honest I have to say the pic below is my favourite from Jan.
