WSOP 2008 - who's planning on going?

Just wondering who is planning on heading over to this?

I've been looking into going over around the 15th-19th of June, staying till the end of the WSOP and moving on.

I'm going to put a bit of effort into qualifying, mainly through online sats. And if I have no luck that way might even try to sat into it over there.

Here's a link that has a few details about the schedule etc.

I'm going to Vegas at the same as you...19th I think. Was all set to play a $1500 event if I can run up a decent roll, but I'm getting more sketchy by the day about lumping that much into one donkament when it'll represent a good chunk of my roll. Might try and sell %'s to some suckers, *ahem* +EV gamblers, on here.

considering heading over to take advantage of the almost non-existent rake in the bowling.

in two minds, not 21 yet so cant play tournys but ive been told there will be no problem with cash games. But someone else also told me that in the clubs for non american ID only passports are accepted by the doorman.

I'll be there in time for the Seniors' on the 22nd.

Not that I'm remotely qualified, save for the age requirement. It's a "Bucket List" thing...

what stakes do you play? usually there is no security on the door but you could get carded at the tables.

prob 5/10-10/20 live. I know that its possible to get carded at the tables but i heard its less strict than the nightclubs ie. nightclubs or w/e will only accept passports. And im told its impossible to play tournaments without a valid passport. Im figuring i could use a fake irish driving license if i got carded at cash tables. Its the clubs and social stuff im worried about though. I woudnt bother going if i woudnt be able to go out at night

will be there, weeeee, gonna be fun

From my experience in Vegas they'd accept a match stick drawing with your name and fake date of birth crudely written underneath it in pencil as valid ID. One person I was with was 19, had a fake Irish drivers license and it worked fine. I wasn't carded at the table and I struggle to get into clubs here without being carded!

I never got carded when I played and I look about 16

why would you do this when drinks are free at the card tables?

I hope to go, but will only play if I win a package with Ladbrokes or something similiar.

The clubs are strict about ID, bars can be ok in the hotels etc.

i bought a shoulder up the road from where i was staying, while my friends waited in room before we went out, I wanted to get some play in and those drink ladies didnt come often enough!! plus i got some of the guys to do yaeger bombs, go me and my tactics

also, there is a really nice club on top of the mandalay bay with a view of the whole city if anyone is going soon enough.

Heading over for a few weeks to play a few of the smaller WSOP games...($1500-2000) and maybe try a few satellites for the main event. Try and get my first bracelet...Can't be that hard.

Is sharing a house a much better option that checking into a hotel guys?
I know a few of you done it last year.

I'm going and would be up for sharing a house.

I'd be up for going in on a house if it works out cheaper then staying in a hotel for two weeks. I'd be there from roughly the middle of june until the start of July.

I can guarantee you that it wouldnt be used, Vegas is sick hot and you wont be outside for very long anyday, at least you wont want to.

We went for a month last year and stayed in a house very similar to the ones linked, wonder are there any links to it?

It DEF better to stay out of the hotels if you want to enjoy yourself and keep some money.
At least some days you can just chill out at the house or w/e etc...
    looks class!!

Maybe if you are from a non-US country the under 21 issue works out better (because they dont recognize the out of states identifications as easy)....But for US players I would recommend NOT even trying to play or drink underage in Vegas as they have been cracking down

As for Fake IDs....That is defininately a high risk proposition IMO

If they ask you for ID and you dont have it..they ask you to leave
If you present fake ID..they 100% call the police and you will be arrested

This isnt Las Vegas,,,but it gives you an idea of the atmosphere

ATLANTIC CITY — For more than a year, the teenager lived the life of a high roller at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, buying tens of thousands of dollars worth of gambling chips, and earning more than $1,000 worth of free merchandise and services for the level of his Blackjack and poker play.

But what the casino didn't know -- and didn't ask about for more than a year -- was that he was only 19, two years below the legal gambling age in Atlantic City.

For that reason, the state Casino Control Commission today hit the Borgata with the largest fine it has ever levied for underage gambling: $105,000. The Borgata also was fined an additional $75,000 for allowing six underage patrons to drink in a casino bar, and a security manager there was fined $1,000 for not immediately reporting them to state gambling regulators.

All told, the commission handed out $231,000 in fines to three casinos for letting underage patrons gamble or drink on their premises.

Joe Corbo, general counsel for the Borgata, said these two cases represent the first time the casino has ever run afoul of New Jersey's age restrictions since opening in 2003.

"We've demonstrated how seriously we take these matters,'' he said. "It's important for underage individuals to know how seriously we take this.''

The gambler, who was 19 at the time he applied for and got a Borgata player's club card on Aug. 26, 2005, was identified only by his initials, "A.P.'' He was stripped of his driver's license for six months and fined $500.

Visiting the casino 10 times, he bought more than $34,000 worth of chips and lost about $9,000 over 24 days from August 2005 until September 2006.

Corbo said the casino finally caught the teen gambler when a dealer who recognized him from a previous visit thought he looked too young, and asked him to show some identification.

The Borgata, like many other casinos in Atlantic City, requires its employees to undergo training to spot underage customers, and offers cash rewards to workers who catch underage gamblers or drinkers. The Borgata offers $50 per detection, while Trump Entertainment Resorts gives out $100 per detection.

The Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort was fined $40,000 on today for allowing four underage customers to gamble there last August. And the Tropicana Casino and Resort was fined $10,000 for allowing an underage gambler to play slot machines last August.

The commission postponed a decision on whether to delay a $750,000 penalty that casino regulators imposed on the Tropicana's former owners until after the property is sold.

Im fairly new on here, i mostly view the posts & never contribute to them :), Myself & 2 others are flying out on the 20th June & playing 6 side events before the main event, mostly the $1500 NL & $1,000 RB events etc, staying till the end of the WSOP, plenty of partying & drinking involved, we are suppose to be staying at the rio for convenience ( last year stayed here) or we are looking for a luxury house to stay with others, anybody else looking for a luxury vegas house for a few weeks??? or need more bodies to fill a house??

If you need one youll be able to sort one out over there, most non Rio casinos will have no problem doing it for you.

I said the same as Dom aswell and I have absolutely still no interest in going back, I couldnt believe how sensationalised and media whorish the whole thing is tbh.

Yeah the WSOP itself has had a worse vibe each year for me but outside of the RIO I have a sick and twisted love of Vegas and the reason I might give in and go will have nothing to do with the World Series.
