    ...or can you?

Of the various choices of meat we have, is beef the ultimate manly meat? Think of a bunch of marauding lions feasting on the kill, or a pack of wild dogs devouring a their prey.

Or is it pork? A versatile meat that can be served in many ways, taking many forms and an almost infinite number of flavours.

Chicken and any kind of avian meat is for the wimmins. I think we can agree on that.

Fish is for the metrosexuals and those with bad skin.

Vegetarianism does not exist in our world, barneysplash, before you ask.

So, what is the ultimate manly meat?

Beef in mince form (not mincer btw) and served in a stupidly spicy chilly dish like Burritos or Enchilladas.

Venisson and veal would be ultra manly in a "screw you PC brigade" kind of way!!

You cant beat a nice big hunk of steak for manliness!

burritos and encheladas, while sometimes can be a challenge hotwise, are a bit too airy fairy!

Enchiladas, perhaps you have a point.

Burritos though: what could be more manly than a spicy beef meal that can be bought at a fast food stand and held in one hand with ice cold beer in the other while at home in a recliner or at a <randomsportingevent> game???!!!

Actually, our local pizza place does this utterly delicious spicy Mexican beer pizza - with extra jalapeños. Damn it is hot. Washed down nicely with a few beers, it is the closest thing to heaven.

Spot on. As snacking imo is the most imprtant meal of the day for any gut-seeking man I suggest those, not singular btw, multiple burritos please!!!

Good aul steak in the evening, sport on the tv, lay back, relax, beer in hand, get head. What more could you want!!!

While pork products are a great accompaniament (sp?) to beer, the top spot has to go to a fine lump of steak. Just chop off its horns & wipe its ass!

Beef definitely rocks. As far as meat goes, the ultimate dish is a steak, the bigger, the better.

But chicken for women? I say no sir, chicken is a mighty versatile meat, and can be quite manly. When did you see a woman hock down an entire plate of chicken wings? A nice chicken curry from the local chinese food emporium can be excellent.

And fish is for metrosexuals!? Are ye bleedin' off yer rockers!? I'll eat a big greasy fish'n'chips any day, it's a great manly meal, that is.

It's all about what you do with your food. Chicken salad? That's not manly. Tuna with pasta? That's not manly. Blame the dish, not the meat! For every unmanly dish, there's a manly one you can make with the same meat.

    ...

I feel like getting a dirty big pile of fish and chips now...

No, I think he's talking about actual buffalo. Buffalo wings would be chicken, and would be silly to ask they'd be considered beef.

I'll tell you guys, one of the best meals I've ever had was in Romania. I had a mixed grill, and this place did not skimp what so ever! Steak, chicken breast, lamb, pork, and sausage, all with a side of chips. Big ass portions of meat too, the kind of thing you'd expect to find on a full dinner you'd get here in Irish resteraunts. The sausage wasn't that rotten Denny bull**** either, this was real chunk of pig, spiced and flavoured with garlic, and it was pretty damn big. Best sausage ever.

Moral of the story, why choose just one meat, when you can have lots? :D

Speaking of, where's lamb on this poll? I suppose it isn't all that common, lamb chops would be a good old Irish dinner, and then you got the whole indian food thing, a nice lamb balti is tasty as hell.

If only we could somehow get that recipe and get the lads and the Bull and Castle to make it, we'd have a match made in heaven.

Spontaneous outing to the E&C? Except, dammit, I can't. Poo.

On a vaguely-related and educational note, would recommending a good beer (in a beer snob kind of way) be acceptable? Or would it be overly wimminish, Real Men (TM) not giving a good goddamn what fizzy, yellow water they're putting in their gobs as long as it got them drunk?

And Jesus but I wish someone in this country would learn how to properly hang beef, and cook a proper blue steak.

I think you misunderstand the brothers, a good beer recommendation is always welcome, we take such things seriously, as to fizzy yellow water read the charter it's mentioned there under the psudonym bud!

Oh. My. God. I cant believe you just said that. That's the foulest, most despicable language I've ever heard come out of a man's mouth. Wash your mouth out with soap, lest you befoul yourself even further.

And then get yourself a nice, foamy pint of Galway Hooker. It even has a good name :)

But if beer recommendations are acceptable, then for nice, spicy, sucky chicken wings the like of the E&C's best, I recommend a good, cold, hoppy IPA like Goose Island. Or the aforementioned Galway Hooker, which isn't as hoppy. But the hops really cut through the spiciness nicely, giving a whole different sort of tingle. Much better than even the nicest lager (which is largely an oxymoron in my opinion, but I'm aware others believe differently. Infidels.)

Anyone know what that Japanese beef is called that costs something like €100 a pound? There's a couple of butchers in Dublin who sell it.

Otherwise, my local Thai does steak pieces in a combination garlic/pepper/mushroom sauce. Sweet baby Jesus it's heaven on a fork. Tender, melt in the mouth lean pieces of prime steak marinaded in their Thai sauce.

A close second would be the Snail Box in Meath. They know their local beef and more importantly, how to cook it.

Boo-hiss to the MRM merchants such as McDonalds and Burgerking.

Having said all that, I will experience Shanahan's on the Green before I die.
