Getting the old man in shape

    Hey all.

I'm giving my dad (th'aul fella, as we call them down wesht) my old weight set. Tis just a cheap 60kg barbell and dumbbell set with a weights bench, but I figure he could do with using it to get in better shape. He's 46, and although not in BAD shape - he only really plays golf on the weekends, so he has the usual bit of a belly, etc.

I've bet him €50 that if he sticks to a workout and changes his diet for one month, he'll see a noticable change. Whether it does or not doesn't matter to me, I'd just like to see him get into it and get in shape.

Anyways, what would be a good sample plan for him? Because he works pretty long days, I was thinking 3 x 30 min workouts a week?

His diet is pretty much this:

    7am Breakfast - dry weetabix w/sugar

1pm - Dinner, carvery... so meat, veg and potatoes

6/7pm - Usually a smaller version of the above dinner

So it's not an ideal diet by any stretch! But he's fairly inflexable, and also I'm not living at home so don't have any say in what he eats.

Any suggestions would be excellent on both the workout and the diet. I think that if he actually seen the replies (I could print them out) it would also show him that it's not just me spouting crap about weights and eating plenty of protein :D

    Thanks all!

Sounds like a great plan. My oul fella's a lazy git and could do with a good kick up the h***.

Might try this one on him though he'll probably say no.

Wish I had a few weights to give to him.
