Anybody care to name somefFoods & products low/high in calories that are not well known. By that I mean stuff you could well know but might be surprised to see the calorie content.

I was looking for heinz sugar free/reduced ketchup and couldnt find any, I looked at a few brands, the lowest was that cheapo Irish stuff called kandee. It is only 34kcal per 100g, compared to around 110kcal for heinz. It is since it has sweetners in it. Not sure why it is so cheap as it has 110g tomato per 100g sauce, which is similar to others.

Another is tesco value salad cream. This is lower in calories than most of the low fat brands, they do not shout about the fact on the label, rather it is watered (vinegared?) down. I use it instead of mayo. I just dip hunks of iceberg lettuce in it.

Tesco value beans are also lower in kcals, I think the tin is a little smaller and they are again "watered down".

Chicken is pretty low in calories, people in work comment on me "eating so much", as I could have a massive plate of chicken, but it would be 400-500kcal, while the roll alone on the person commenting's sandwich could have more! not to mention the coke & crisps that go with it.

Supernoodles are high in calories, about 500-600kcal per pack. I used to eat a pack with something else on the side before I noticed. I know a few people who presumed they were OK or at least not particularly high in cals.

Museli is high in cals and easy to overeat, same with peanuts. Both are good foods, just watch for portion size, I used to easily eat 800kcal of museli with milk without a second thought. And if boozing I could put away 1000kcal of nuts easy.

Other brands might have low calorie portions (i.e. normal calorie density but small portions that might seem regular size). These would be most WW products. Jaffa cakes, Ryvita, light snacks like skips, malteasers, wispa, aero.
Just becareful you are not paying over the odds for air.

(Mods- this was meant to be in nutrition forum, please move if you want)
