    SBG is relocating to

    111 Longmile Road Centre
    Longmile Road
    Dublin 12

On Monday, 31st of March, Straight Blast Gym Ireland opens in its new location conveniently located 5 minutes walk from the Kylemore Luas stop stop and 1 minutes walk from the 151, 18, 210, 56a bus stop.

    Luas Map

    Location

There will be a 2000sq ft matted training area, matted training wall, punch bags, Olympic lifting area, power rack, ‘El Shane’ chin up – dip – ring station, dumbbells, swiss balls etc etc. In other words everything you need to develop real power and conditioning!

There will be Thai Boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Mixed Martial Arts, Submission Wrestling, Clinch and Combat Conditioning classes on offer.

Also our world wide recognised ‘SBG Intro’ program designed to take YOU from couch potatoe to lean mean killing machine in 12-weeks. This course is designed for raw, out of shape beginners so don’t think ‘I’ll get fit first then join’ – this course will get you fit and ready for training.

For more information email sbgmembership@gmail.com or call 0876768911

Straight Blast Gym Ireland opened its doors in the summer of 2001, operating out of a 400sq ft (smaller than the shower room in new location!) garage. The roof was leaking, the ‘mats’ didn’t offer much protection and it was always cold but a who’s who of Irish MMA started training there from Andy Ryan, now running SBG Northside, David Jones, now heading up Next Generation, Colm O’Reilly of Spartan MMA, Ian Ward of Celtic MMA not to mention a host of top fighters from The Wolf Dave Roche, the Badman Clive Staunton, Sissy Boy Mick Leonard, John Donnelly, Adrian Drago Degorski, Rowdy Owen Roddy et al.

After about 2 years SBG relocated to harold’s cross and continued to grow to about 100 members. Most training for a hobby, get fit and keep in shape but also producing athletes that were consistently getting results in MMA, BJJ and Submission Wrestling both in Ireland and abroad. Arni ‘The Ice Viking’ Isaksson travelled from Iceland to train full time and after a couple of months training shocked the UK MMA community by winning one of the last old school 8-man tournaments. Arm barring UFC fighter Denis Siver in the final. Also Ais ‘The Bash’ Daly started her MMA training here and will be debuting on Europe’s biggest MMA show Cage Rage UK in March this year.

After 3 years there a planned move to Tallaght fell through at the last minute leaving SBG homeless for a while. After a couple of months of training out of a school hall SBG re-opened in Rathcoole in July 2006. Although the facility and training were good the location made it difficult for a lot of people the get there. So we were always on the look out to move back closer to town.

Now being a short ride on the Luas from the city centre and also with a number of frequently running buses leaving you at the door we hope to make this type of training accessible to everybody. Maybe your goal is to fight in the cage….however that would make up about 1% of our membership, most people training do so out of sheer enjoyment, lose some weight and gain confidence.

“The closest I’ve come to a Peak Experience is through athletics” – Joseph Campbell.

No rituals, no politics, no titles, no hierarchy, no nonsense.

If this sounds like something that would interest you then leave your shoes and ego at the door, step on the mat and join the fastest growing sport in the world.

Thats great John. I was with ya's in Harolds Cross for a while and the Rathcoole move stumped me. Is Paddy still doing the Muay Thai for ya's? I work and live close by. Will hopefully get back training soon now.

    That is ANIMAL news!!!!

The real question is: Is there a subway near by? I mean, after XVT in Phibsborough we used to head into town to eat, then in harolds cross there was the walk to Rathmines for subway cookies. What now?

Thats really great news Kav such a long way from St Andrews!!

    Peace

Great news John, fair play, i used to go out to Harold's cross, loved it but the move to rathcoole kicked my ass so had to stop, this move is making me consider canceling my current gym membership and heading back to SBG.

The O'Neills building houses the Judo Ireland HQ and a lot of other sports if I remember correctly. It would be at the back of the new SBG place.

not particularly jon, grappling in general has peeked my interest of late, really know nothing of bjj takedowns, would they include throws?:)
