Hypotethically... If I sat around doing nothing for 3months, didnt eat and didnt excercise, would my metabolism burn away muscle or fats quicker?

Basically Im wondering while Im sitting here typing and slightly hungry am I wasting away muscle or fats?

Eh if you didnt eat for 3 months i think you'd have more to worry about than what type of fuel your body was burning. Eh i think i read somewhere its half and half or so to begin with anyhow, over a 3 months period though i have absolutely know idea i reckon after a substained period your body shed as much muscle as possible as quickly as possible but then i could be wrong

WTF??? If you are too long inbetween meals your body goes into a catoblic state (burning muscle) so if you are interested in losing fat and not muscle eat more protein eat regularly and lift heavy things.

well obviously, it was a hypothethical question, as in if someone is in a state of starvation would the body burn away fats or muscle [in the main] firstly.

So if I want to loose fat I shouldnt ever feel hungry?...

While just sitting around, walking aroudn the office, making breakfast etc your body is primarily using fat as a fuel source, since it's low intensity.

I'm unsure the effects of extreme starvation have on the body.

Hypothetical or not extreme starvation is really not comparable though with feeling a bit peckish in the evening time.

So if I want to loose fat I shouldnt ever feel hungry?

I dont think the two situations are exactly comparable now do you?? One is an extreme survival situation for starters and the human body is designed to survived rather than look good nakid if you get me. But eating protein regularly helps keep your body out a catabolism you still need a calorie deficit to be hungry.

    YES AND NO.
your body naturally begins to store fat when you feel hungry, as it considers it the fuel it will need to use for energy in case of starvation.
this was great when food was hard to come by, not great now!

So no you should try not to go hungry, but that doesnt mean you should just constantly eat crap, and snack on chocolate.
Eat proteins in each meal and snack on fruit/vegatables, things that fill you up.
And always eat breakfast (not a fry!).

Your body is made for survival.....it will do what it needs to do to live and if you go into a large calorie deficit the first thing it will start to shed is muscle.

Muscle needs calories to be maintain, fat doesn't.

Plus stored fat comes in handy for long term energy supply in times of starvation.

If you become a bit more active, eat a nice balanced diet and generally keep things simple you'll do a much better job of acheiving whatever your goals are.
