Pigging Out

I am a fitness freak and go the gym 4 times a week, I also eat very healthily Monday to Friday and most Saturdays too. However come Sunday I seriously pig out, I might have some chips on the nitelink home and then the following day I literally do not stop eating. My stomach feels like a bottomless pit and I cannot seem to satisfy myself.

My question is, would you put on weight if you pig out just one day a week??? I never thought you would but then you always hear stars saying if they eat 1 naughtly thing they know they have to work extra hard the following day to burn it off. This baffles me as they would not have a pick on them!!

I do not have a weight problem as I am only 7 3/4 stone, but I always fret that my Sunday pig outs will result in me gaining weight or doing me some other damage. Any thought on this???

I am in the exact same boat. train hard 5-6 nights a week. I track everything i eat and eat a balanced diet. On friday night I like to have a few drinks. diet good on that day. But on saturdays I get the feeling i literally cant feel my stomach. i came back after xmas (Jan7th)- 14 stone 12 pounds. I am now (28th jan i think)- 13 stone 13 pounds. So I would say one day a week is ok (I also think mentally you have a to allow yourself that day). it is unrealistic I believe to give up socialising.

Yeah I know what you mean, I only drink once a week so thankfully only ever have one pig out day.

But ya cant help but feel that by pigging out you are destroying all your hard work that you have done all week in the gym.

If you didnt go to the gym there would be no work done at all, and then it could well be a problem. I drink like a fish at the weekends, but just maintain my weight as it is since I do some training in the week.

I am on a calorie deficit most days, this can lead to your body lowering its metabolism, a good pig out session can kick start your metabolism so it doesnt think it is going into "starvation mode". I usually save my eating sessions to after a good workout, this way at least I know any excess calories might be going to some use, i.e. building muscle & recovering.

It all adds up over the week. If you are on 2000kcal mon-sat, and then ingest 5000kcal on sunday then that is 17,000kcal over the week, so your average is ~2400kcal per day

Everyone is different, some people gain weight easier than others, if i drank 1 night and pigged out 1 day i would definetley gain weight, i kinow other lads who can get away with it! either way, its not going to help you to get in better shape and is bad for your health, try easing up on the pigging out and gargle, have a treat but not lots of treats!!

In fairness cowzerp I think it is probably better that I pig out a lot in 1 day than be treating myself all week which is what I would do if I didnt have a blow out. If I am not gaining any weight by doing this (which I am not) then its probably nothing to worry about.

For example I do tend to do that little bit longer in the gym of a Monday just to set me up for the week and to burn off what I ate.

Eh, i meant treat 1 day!!! and you might not gain weight but you wont get in much better shape if your pigging out! 1 treat a day would be better for you than pigging out anyway, you just want to pig out.

Everything in moderation is my motto.

Are you training for anything in particular??

During the season im in the pool twice a day. Out of season I eat and drink as much as I like, fast metabolism apparently, so dont put on much weight, I loss some muscle mass, so I probably lose weight.

What about just drinking vodka and Diet Coke? Then try not to buy chips but have wholegrain bread at the ready when you get in and are dying for some carbs? That's what I do. And I have a small can of tuna with it. As for sugar, Jaffa Cakes are quite low in calories. At the same time though, you're well under eight stone which is tiny no matter how low your height is, so while I've urged you to try and cut out the chips, that's only because it's bothering you. I personally would say you could well afford to "risk" a moderately-sized portion of chips once a week.

As I often say, if it brings you joy then pig out. Remember your getting fit for one person- YOURSELF.

Yeah I am only 5'3 and being under 8 stone am a bit of a twig. I am not training for anything in particular I just work out to look and feel good. I am very hard on myself all week as regards eating healthy so never treat myself at all.

I might try and give up the booze or cut down so I dont get the muchies as bad of a Sunday. I dunno about anyone else but I dont get the munchies as bad with vodka, so I could drink that instead. Being thin I get very drunk very easily no matter how easy I take it..

Ditto!!! Too often people forget the six days when you were good be it by working out or having a good diet. I reckon I deserve my pig out days because of all the work I put in during the week.

I stayed with the brother last night, we had a big big plate of spag boll aroung six then we drank many, many, bottles of miller while playing on the wii before phoning for a take away chinese at 12.30. I had a nice fry this morning but tommorrow being monday I'll climb back up on the wagon and put it all behind me.

If people worry that much about the odd excess they would probably be better off posting about it in personal issues.

im the same, I give myself sunday off the limits of the diet but try and stay reletively disciplined... as in I dont watch the amounts of cals/carbs Im taking in. On a sunday I do eat outside the diet, but I try avoiding the realllly bad, if I hit the kebab shop before the nitelink I try to order a wrap instead of a burger or if I hit the chipper I order a chicken fillet burger and chips and dont eat the burger bun and avoid the sauces on the chips... It mighten be healthy but its healthier... by the time wednesday comes back around I nearly always return to the same weight/definition I was on the friday before.

Oh and when Im drinking on a fri/sat/mon (most weekends I drink heavey two nights) I dont drink pints of alco-pops, I go for voddie and diet 7up, its 20cals a drink compared to 300 or something a pint...

If you really need to pick something up then try cleaning the streets. Keep it on topic please.

OP, are you happy with how you look and perform? If so then just stay doing what you are doing.

    What magic vodka is that?
I standard vodka (35.5ml) is just shy of 80 calories (about the same for gin, rum and whiskey)
Add a bottle of tonic water (44 calories) or a diet drink (2-5cals) or the demon redbull (150cals).

My problem is I could easily drink 10 or 15 vodka tonics without so much as a slurred word...thats 1500 empty calories. You see, drink is bad.

I was joking with my previous comment.

And another thing, life is to be enjoyed, which judging by some of these posts is far from the case.

Well some people enjoy working out and eating healthily - you'll find that on the Fitness forum. Why exactly have you bothered posting?
