    Howdy y'all

I am definitely gonna make it to a festival in Europe this year but it's hard to pick one at this stage but I do wanna get cracking with organising stuff.

I've narrowed it down to 3 (I think): Lowlands, Pinkpop, Werchter.

Anybody got experiences of these festivals they would like to share?Anyone know anything about the line-ups for these ones yet?Costs?Routes to the festival?
Perhaps we could make this like an archive and sticky it?

    Cheers
    Mongo

considering rock am ring and wacken

Got all my Primavera stuff booked again.

Sziget will probably be my other stop. Lineup is meant to be better this year as two days got shaved off it but its staying the same price.

I'm 99% on for Werchter again. If not, it'll either be Pinkpop or Pukkelpop. If headliners arent great at Werchter, I'll prob go for Pinkpop though.

pinkpop's headliners are ace, Metalica, Foo's and RATM..while Rock am Ring looks good, the lineup tends to be more harder rock, while pinkpop has everything from light to heavy:)

    plus its cheap:D

im hoping for Foo's, Daft Punk for werchter, and RATM/ for pukkel.

Actually yeah, Germany wouldnt be a bad choice either. I shall see what happens though. Am now considering feckin off somewhere at end of February to see Biffy support QOTSA, but that could be too much I think.

Rock Am Ring perhaps, thats about it, mainly to see In Flames and Metallica (again) and hopefully Velvet Revolver (before they might break up so gonna have to get my fill this year)

he didnt even turn up for his last gig, plus with his DUI charges i dont see VR touring anytime soon, i think they'll cancell their european one.

Do you see a judge honestly turning around and telling a celebrity in Hollywood that with a full European tour booked and paid for that he is going to sentence him to a year in jail. He might get a fine, he may get some court appointed mandate who has to accompany him everywhere, but I would find it extremely hard to think that he will get jailed

Jeez, now I know what it feels like to be a Babyshambles fan!:p

I've never been before but am very tempted this year.

you've been to 3 already - I'm guessing you love it!!

I think we are just gonna go regardless of line up.It's bound to be good. And if not we'll just pop to the Dam!

VR are scheduled to play two gigs in Dublin in March (got my tickets already :D ), and I saw them last year at Download.

But to answer the OP's question .. I'm planning on heading to pinkpop to see Flogging Molly, the Foos, Metallica, and most important of all, RATM.

has anyone been to PinkPop before? ive having trouble finding what airport to fly into..

from what i can gather, from dublin theres 3 routes, eindhoven - which is 2hrs away by train, amsterdam which is 4 hours away by train, and Brussels which is 2.5hours away.

which would be the best one?

The best one? I'm guessing it'd be the cheapest:D

I'm going to Pinkpop and Werchter this year, gonna be great fun! Booking Pinkpop this week, then just need to wait for details for Werchter. Heres hoping for Offspring and Kiss:D

Anyone been to Roskilde in Denmark?
Am considering it this summer - not sure how difficult it is to get to..

Werchter should take rock out of the title with the lineup they've just released.

Who can recommend anything about the following: Benicassim, Rock am Ring or QUART in Norway - I mean camping facilities, crowd and places to party the night away outside the grounds???

Pinkpop's line up grabs me the most but it's very early.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,659 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

I'm going to Pinkpop and Werchter. Decided I shall go to Werchter anyway, its a nice mellow lineup(Sigur Ros:D). Plus theres still plenty to be added, there'll be three or four more big names.

Booked my Pinkpop tickets this morning. Turns out from the Dutch site, you cant buy tickets for Ireland as theres no shipping. But go to the German link on the Pinkpop site and you can get them(€140 incl. postage/service). Its gonna be class, cant wait to go now:D

On a sidenote, the day before Werchter, I'm going to see Iron Maiden in Paris:D

every year there's so many things that get in the way of me hitting Festivals across Europe - so last year I decided I was going to hit Wacken and a couple of other festivals.......so what happens then......well three of my best mates have decided to get married this year.....but I'm still determined to get away.......

so it's looking like Arrow Rock in Netherlands at the moment, Kiss, Def Leppard, Whitesnake and Journey confirmed so far......
    and maybe Graspop.....
Lot's of talk about Wacken being overcrowded this year, really good lineup with Maiden headlining - but with a crowd cap of 65,000 that's well in excess of previous years......

would love to hit MetalCamp in Slovenia (fantastic looking site) but mates getting married that weekend.......damn him......

is anyone going to or have ever been to Electric Festival in Getafe?

    http://www.electric-weekend.com/index.html

Looks like a pretty decent line up (basically RATM is why im considering going, rest is a bonus really....well most of the rest!!)

Tickets 125 for the weekend, i have only started looking into it now so i dont know if its extra for camping etc. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

think I looked into that one b4 (few years ago) and there was no camping provided (like lots of Spanish festivals). The line up looks good tho.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,519 ✭✭✭Oral Slang

Going to Graspop & probably Bloodstock.. Had been contemplating Metal Camp, but would need a good few days off work, so I picked the easier option - maybe next year!

Being to Glasto twice and Roskilde once. Fancy a change this year, any recommendations?

Delete this mods, just saw the post on euro festivals.

i've been watching this post closely and it's cool that some of you are thinking of going elsewhere in europe to get a better value festival. i work for a company that hired me to create a community site for music festivals around the world and it just launched last week. i'm obviously very excited and looking forward to seeing people getting involved.

i love boards.ie, and have used it for years, so the intent is not to direct people away from this site, but to give another resource for information. anyway, if you want to have a look you can find it at:

    www.globalfests.com

it's a completely irish owned website, and new information about festivals around the world will be added every day.
    thanks.

(i've ok'd it with the mods to post this, but i hope this does not annoy any members)

Sonar in Barcelona. After some problems got everything booked. Line up looks tasty. Does anyone know if there will be more additions and what tickets are people buying? Going for the whole package?

The line up is v weak IMO compapred to previous years. There will defo be more added though. There will be an absolute fukk load of stuff happening in and around Barcelona over the week of Sonar tho. Check www.krass.com nearer the date for more info. Be sure to check out anti-Sonar and also keep an eye out for loads of beach parties.

    Its an amazing week. Enjoy!
