    Hi,

Has anyone had any experience of Amatsu? There's a guy in Drumcondra who was recommended to me by a friend.

I have some back pains which have extended down my left leg over the past 3 weeks. Although the pains are not that painful they are quite annoying and keeping me from the gym.

Where abouts in DC is he located? If it's up off Iona Road or that area then I'd definately recommend him.

EDIT: Just googled and checked, looks like it's a different person.

Never heard of Amatsu - care to fill us in?

My advice is always the same in these cases - find out what it is that's causing the pain (diagnosis). With that it will be more clear who you need to see. e.g. if it's a prolapsed ('slipped') disc with nerve compression and progressive neurological deficit (rare, <1% of all low back and leg pain) you need to see an orthopaedic surgeon. If it's due to spondylolisthesis you need to see someone who can show you the correct exercises for this. And whatever Amatsu is, if the diagnosis is something amenable to Amatsu treatment go for Amatsu.

If you just look for treatment for the pain, you are treating the symptoms rather than the cause. So things like acupuncture, painkillers may be great for the pain, but if the cause is not treated, the pains may reoccur.

Also as there are many different causes/diagnoses of low back and leg pain, different treatments will work for different people. So Amatsu might have worked for your friend but may not work for you. And sleeping on a board on the floor/physiotherapy/chiropractor/surgery/acupuncture might work for some people but not for others.

Check out http://www.amatsu-ireland.com/about%20amatsu.html I have this done regularly and it does help a lot, although it hasn't fixed me, but that doesn't mean it won't fix someone else. It's some type of japanese osteopathy and works on finding the body's imbalances and then uses some type of acupressure to rebalance. There is no major manipulation as with chiros, so you don't have to worry that it will make you worse.

My father had regular back pain for years but went to an Amatsu practitioner last year and has been in much better shape ever since.

He goes back once every 6 weeks or so and he hasn't had any back problems in the past 18 months.

    Hi there,

The mention of acupuncture in this thread has caught my eye as I am a practicing acupuncturist.

Someone said that acupuncture will only relieve the pain for a while but in my experiance if a client has repeated treatments the pain can be cleared permanently. This will usually be the case when all of usual investigations have been done with no obvious cause for the pain being found ie. no bones or discs are physicially out of alignment. From the perspective of Chinese medicine the cause would probably be "Qi and blood stagnation" Meaning that the channels of energy were blocked or damaged in some way.

I hope this is helpful to someone!!:)

Rosco, where does your father go to? I'm attending someone in Phibsboro at the moment, but it's not the handiest location for me.
