beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

Buy this one and use the rest of the 6k to go on a holiday :D

Trust me op the hyundai coupe is anything but a "savage" . Its as soft as a pillow.

With your budget, if sexy is your primary concern when buying a car - go for an Alfa GTV Lusso with Leather interior ;)

colm_mcm who posts regularly on this forum is selling his FTO. Best looking car for the money imho, and good to go too with a 200bhp 2.0 V6.

His asking price is a tad under 6k. Here.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I would love that, park up for the year and take her out at the summer for the drives to the south of France or over to Austria. MMmm..

Like the FTO I would recommend a Toyota Mr2 T Bar model.

I'm taking a wild stereotypical guess here but if you are a young male (poss on a provisional) I would get insurance quotes before starting to shop seriously. Nothing more heartbreaking than the perfect car that you can afford to buy but not insure...

I would recommend one of these very highly.
Insurance could be a problem depending on your age.
Also, tax will be €1491.00 from July (currently €1343.00)
I paid €945.00 for VRT on mine in November.

no other license required. If you do your test in an auto you can only drive autos.

Have you considered a Honda Prelude? The 2.2Vtecs are sh*t quick. They look great, and because they're Honda they'll go forever! Not very expensive either so you'll get a great one with 6/7k..

  • Registered Users Posts: 73,430 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

if you do your test in a manual you can drive manual or auto. The auto box in the FTO is ahead in terms of changing speed of many auto boxes on 08 cars, as it's tiptronic it has a manual change function, which is super quick. It also adapts changes to your driving style.

Thought tiptronic was semi-automatic? No clutch needed. Similar to paddles?

Colm, why are you being so modest?;)

The gearbox in the FTO is based on Porsche's Tiptronic, and is called INVECS II. It adapts to the driver's style.

More than half of all FTO GPXes had the INVECS II box.

    INVECS-II

Mitsubishi's clever INVECS transmission (it stands for Intelligent & Innovative Vehicle Electronic Control System) was first made available in the Galant over a decade ago. It has now been developed into INVECS-II, and is seen in the Mitsubishi Shogun, Grandis and the Lancer.

In simple terms INVECS-II is a computer-controlled automatic transmission which has the ability to "learn" your driving style, using its Adaptive Shift Control software. As soon as you start driving the computer begins to monitor your driving style, and after a short while sets the up and down-change points to suit, thus smoothing out progress on the road. It's almost like having a person sitting next to you who, having seen how you drive, adjusts the automatic gearbox accordingly.

For the fully automatic mode to be in operation, the gear selector is simply left in 'D'. But on the Shogun, Grandis and Lancer models, if you want to use the manual mode - which gives the driver more control over the transmission, and allows higher engine revs in each gear - then the lever is slid over to the left into another gate, which is Sports Mode.

Now, tapping the lever forward prompts an electronic up-change, while moving it back downshifts. Effectively you have a clutchless gearshift, but you don't need to worry about suddenly being caught out at low speed in a high gear, because when stationary the transmission automatically reverts to first?

INVECS II is the system my FTO has.
