Oh Dear Lord... and here's a synopsis (as if it's important):
After successfully skewering Hollywood’s scariest movie (as two of the writers on “Scary Movie”), romantic comedy franchises (“Date Movie”), and Hollywood blockbusters ( “Epic Movie”), writers/directors/producers Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer now set their sights on “300.” The heroic Leonidas, armed with nothing by leather underwear and a cape, leads a ragtag group of 13 - count ‘em, 13! — Spartans to defend their homeland against the invading Persians (whose ranks include Ghost Rider, Rocky Balboa, the Transformers, and a hunchbacked Paris Hilton).
Please note: any positive replies about above film will be deemed a breach of the 'Films' forum charter. You will be banned from the forum, banned from Boards.ie, then your parents will probably kick you out of their house and if you're not living with your parents, you landlady / landlord, wife / significant other (etc.) will.

And then... then I'll come find you!

    I'm serious!

Date movie was horrific, Epic Movie was a little better. Relative to Date Movie mind. I'll probably still go and see this one, in the vain hope that it'll be decent.

That was about as funny as castration. Usually these terrible spoofs show their best and only jokes in the trailers. Looks like this film just has no jokes.

tbh, who gives these ****ers money to make these things?

date movie, i reckon is the only movie in the last few years that i actually just turned off after about 30mins. Just couldn't face it any more.

If enough, how shall I put this, easily amused people keep going to them of course they'll keep firing money out for making them. I can't imagine they need a very substansial budget anyway.

Although just a quick check shows me date movie stats

    Budget:
    $20 million

    Gross revenue :
    Domestic
    $48,546,578
    Worldwide
    $84,795,656

Ok, I admit that I'm as sick to death of these ****e spoofs as anyone, but the Britney gag that's been shown on the T.V advert for this movie did make me and my missus LOL.

If Hollywood wants to keep doing spoofs, they need to go old school (not the movie) and do them like they used to and should be done.

In fairness the Britney gag was very good.

Also, fair play for getting Hercules to be in 300.

Well, you all had to know it was coming. Whenever something new and cool comes along, the parodies are only a few steps behind. Remember how frequently 'bullet-time' got spoofed?

These movies infuriate me. Rather than make an effort to create something new that should be celebrated, they just leech off those that are really trying to make pregress. It is pathetic. Epic Movie's trailer was particularly antogonizing - why spoof Borat? Is that an epic movie now? Similairly, Date Movie parodied such 'date movies' as Kill Bill and The Lord of the Rings. Did I miss something when I saw Kill Bill?!?
These pathetic individuals can't even be follow their own MO - instead they'll poke fun atanything at all in order to please an audience of total f*cking idiots.

Just typing this is making me genuinely furios.

I don't know what ye're all bitching about, this is cinematic gold.................oh wait, sorry! I thought we were talking about real spoof movies like Top Secret! or Airplane!

Eurgh, these "spoofs" make me sick to the core!! More-so cuz I know people who would find this movie fantastic, tasteless bastards!!

Gone are the days where spoof jokes were actually quite intelligent and........what's that word I'm looking for.........ah yes.............FUNNY! Anyone these days can make a spoof as long as it's some perverted sex jokes and a sprinkle of disabled jokes, ho ho ho!!

To spoof something well, it has to be a fairly well known genre that is recieving the spoof treatment, and not just the latest joke celebrity or movie flavour of the month.

Airplane works because it is a satire on the well known disaster movie. The Scary / Date / Epic movies don't work as they merely take the easy targets that quickly become irrelevant. They promise to take on genres that could use dissection, but instead settle on horribly crude humour.

Oh, and also they aren't funny. Pretty big reason too.

Can you believe Meets the Spartans is higher than Rambo and Cloverfield.
Thats a perfect representation of the American mentality towards films. Jesus its criminal.

The problem with these is that they are only funny for a while. Airplane is still funny after nearly 20 odd years, as is the naked gun films. there was another in the early 90s called "Don't be a menace to society when you're drinking your juice in the hood." which was funny also.

Epic movie was a pile of piss, as was Date Movie. Not another Teen Movie was **** as well but at least the soundtrack CD was interesting.

I actually thought Don't Be A Menace... was rubbish. The only bit I laughed at was when the gangsta robbed the walker off the old woman.

These movies are always hits. Epic Movie was. That's why they keep coming. I wouldn't be so quick to write off American audiences and give them the lion's share off the blame for cinematic atrocities such as this; Irish audiences are no better. Just do as I'm going to do: don't watch it, and smile in smug satisfaction that you're smarter than the majority of the cinema-going public when you see statistics that films like this are topping the box office.

Maybe stop and ask yourself what is it that makes you so apparently cultured that you can safely refer to yourself as smarter then the cinema going public?

After all, opinion is merely opinion, movies like this do so well because people like them. Plenty of people around here liked AVP Requim, while the other half, rather then meeting half way, declared it an abomination of film making and pretty much explicitly declared anyone liking it to be an idiot. It was the same with Scary Movie 4 - incidentally, a film I thought was pretty good. You have to ask, if you're in the minority, and the statistics go against you, who are you to say a film is crap, the audience is stupid, so on and so forth?

Maybe you're the idiot, because you don't like what everyone else does? There is no fact, only opinion. That said, I thought - in my opinion - that Date Movie was horrific beyond description, but Epic Movie was an improvement - not nececssarily a good movie mind. Who knows, maybe Meet the Spartans will be another improvement approaching an actually decent film. But they're only my opinions. Just like I wouldn't call someone who likes Vegetables an idiot, I wouldn't call someones tastes in movies idiotic either.

It's all about money, these films get made because there's an audience for them, plain and simple. These 'idiots' who go and see them, you can be sure, are probably made up of not only your average cinema goer like myself, but of people of a far higher intelligence then your good self too.

Jesus, could you be anymore up your own arse?

I absolutely hate these kind of movies (bar Airplane, Hot Shots etc) but the girlfriend does enjoy them. I couldnt call her an idiot just because of the movies she watches. She will turn her brain off and enjoy it in the cinema while im bored out of my mind watching it. But she will just as easily sit down and watch classics like La Haine, If, Usual Suspects etc with me. It all depends what kind of mood people are in when they go to the cinema.

cant belive people are being called idiots for liking films that others didnt.

I alays refer back to planet horror or those grindhouse things made recently, that everyone loves, but i felt it was the worst film id ever seen. I dont call people stupid who liked it, just differing opinions.

I like spoofs and gags on celebrities etc, but it can be done well or not so well. Family guy is an example of spoofs and gags done superbly.

Is this even out yet? has anyone seen it? i didnt know it was out, so i think alot of peoples opinions are based on previous work, we can always hope for things to be improved.

And i hope the board charter is a joke tbh.... because banning people fo an opinion is ridiculous and not right.

So now moderators are the ultimate film buffs and can determine what is and is not a good film : /

hope it was a joke tbh...

    Yes, it's a joke.

And seriously, if someone wants to take someone else's taste in films as an indication of their intelligence, then that's up to them, and there's very little to be done about it.

i heard about this on the radio and actually thought it might have been good *ducks for cover* until i seen the trailer and realised it was one of these generic spoof movies. In fairness the 300 thing has been done so much on line etc that none of the jokes could be that original to anyone and the britiney "joke" isnt funny as its probably true, suppose they have a amy winehouse "joke" about her turning up late for a concert because she was stoned?

I just watched it. I expected it to be the worst thing ever commited to film, so I was surprised. It was an alright movie, I wouldn't go to the cinema to watch it though. No way near as bad as I expected but it was only an hour and five fcuking minutes long!

Pretty much what I thought - not as bad as the trailer made it look, but far from a good film, before anyone thinks I'm going the other direction. Some OK jokes, but some awful ones too - but regardless, definitely another step up from Epic movie , which in turn was a step up from Date Movie, so at this rate by 2012 we'll have a decent spoof.

Though it was only 65m long, what a joke - both Cinemas in Galway have it listed as 100m, I'd love to know where they got that from.

Don't go. Stay at home, read a book, ring your mum, write a letter, cook a dinner for loved one, treat yourself to a decent stare at the ceiling - do something, anything, other than going to watch this.

Harsh but needed to be said :pac:

Galway eh? They probably thought an hour = 100minutes.
Cinemas generally list the times as being ads+trailers+film(inc. credits)

Thought I'd look up what constitutes a feature film when it comes to running time:
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences,[1] the American Film Institute,[2] and the British Film Institute[3] all define a feature as a film with a running time of 40 minutes or longer. The "Centre national de la cinématographie" in France defines it as a 35 mm film which is longer than 1,600 metres, which comes out to exactly 58 minutes and 29 seconds for sound films, and the Screen Actors Guild gives a minimum running time of 80 minutes.

although i have to say i saw a poster for it and i thought the tagline "from the guys who saw 300" was kinda funny..
