soundproofing

    I am doing an installation, it's a box of 1.6m/1.6m with a height of 2m, and i need all the sound from the outside to blocked out when you are inside the box. any ideas of what i can use that is EXTREMELY cheap and effective???!!!!!???

    sound proof plaster board with filler, built a community studio years ago was fairly cheap

    Apparently one of the best ways to soundproof a ceiling is to fill the gap between it and the floor above with about 2 inches of sand. It is supposed to be extremely effective though I haven't tried it yet so can't say myself. Has anyone used sand for soundproofing? Sounds about as cheap as it gets...

    For sound proofing the heavier the better. More mass dampens sound better.

    The only experience i have with it is in college projects so i've no idea how effective it is.
