Has anyone seen the gym in the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire. Apparently the gym just opened last week.
    Cheers

let's hope there aren't more than a dozen members looking by the size of it. oh and it's €1320 a year for a single membership lol.

    it's hysterical, really.

Yeah.. I went down there yesterday to have a look - and joined up. place looks great finally a bit of class in DL. Been to crunch but it was full of body builders and smelly! thought the €1320 to be good value for what you get. free parking, free towels, discount loads of stuff. I recommend it!!

    €1320 good value??!!
    are you joking?

sure you can join riverview for that, and i'm sure its a much better facility than the one in the hotel!

I would want a lot more than a towel for that price

That's 110 quid a week make sure you keep going!! I'd be looking for ladies waving branches over my head in a jaccuzzi for that price:D

Thats an insane price, I pay €165 a year in UCD! It doesnt have a pool, sauna or jacuzzi but it has a decent enough free weights area and a lot of cardio equiptment!

A gym full of people actually working out properly? Heaven forbid. I'd definitely spend twice as much to "run" on a shiny treadmill and lift some pink coloured "weights" watching Desperate Housewives on the TV screen.

I had a look around the place, there is no doubt it is fairly impressive compared to some gyms around dublin,,, but compared to crunch its its rubbish ! Its So Small.

I went in expecting it to be around 80 euro per month,,, but 1350 pa + 300 joining fee (if paying monthly) was a joke. I was waiting for them to give the whole '' however if you join today its xxx '' but no ! they're the ACTUAL prices! . . . Madness I say.

Crunch offeres really good value, nearly half the price. And it's 'reasonably' luxurious.

    Apologies for resurrecting dead thread.

    Does anyone frequent this place?

Trying to find somewhere in the Dun Laoghaire area, was a member of Crunch a few years back but our affiliation ended somewhat acrimoniously....pretty sure I'm on a wanted poster down there! :D

Yea probably the people who own the hotel. Only 1 post and it was bigging up the gym and saying it was good value at that price!!!!! Madness and surely no one from around the DL area has joined this place have they?

Euro 1320 at the start was a bit ambitious.

They substantially dropped their prices (by between 60% and 80%) at the end of last year and now offer a variety of swim or gym or both options, peak or off peak, starting at about Euro 300pa.

Went to see Crunch but joined up here at half the price. Didn't want to be paying for a load of machines and classes I was never going to use and prefer the ambience of the gym and the possibility of having a pint after (to undo the good work!)

Hi,Just wondering how busy the pool gets in Crunch and The Royal Marine in the evenings. Moving to DL at the weekend......
    Thanks

Don't know about Crunch but Royal Marine is usually pleasant enough. Can feel a bit busy with more than 6 in the pool, but this is a rarity weekday evenings. There's always the sauna, steam room and jacuzi to chill out in.
