Can I write about fitness for a living?

I work in the media. I'm very interested in fitness, diet, etc.

I've been writing about stuff I have no interest in for years. It's doing my head in. I'm very unhappy in work and the future looks bleak unless I can create some job satisfaction. So, I'd like to start writing about fitness.

The problem is, I don't know if there is a viable career in it. There are no Irish versions of 'Men's Health' to work my way into (moving abroad is not an option). And it seems that most magazines and newspapers either carry a small amount of fitness stuff or they use highly-qualified doctors or well-known celebrities to write the pieces.

I really want to marry my skills and experience with my personal interests.

Does anybody have any advice for me? Any ideas? How could I write about fitness fulltime, and make a living out of it?

    Thanks for your help :)

I'd take a wild stab in the dark and suggest maybe trying something like the Healthy Living supplements that come out in the indo. Since you're already in the business i'm guessing you may have some contacts in the industry that can point you in the right direction.

Maybe set-up your own online magazine and website, you'd definitely get a lot of interest from here and IAFS. Do a weekly/fortnightly newsletter and use this as your starting point. At least then there'd be more free advertising for the IAFL?

Again just my two cents as to how i'd do it.

You need to be able to back up what you know with what you've done if you want any credability. Consdiering most people listen to celebs on this tho, you probably don't need a real long list!
