think the european cup and champions league points should be equal and the uefa cup should be more points than the cup winners cup apart from that i think its ok

Was thinking that myself but the champions league seemed harder with the extra teams added so hence more points.

It took a while but enjoyable have done separate decades so will post them at a later stage.

Harder to win but easier to qualify for.

I;d beinclined to up the points for the UEFA and League Cups, only lost their lustre in the last ten to fifteen years.

Youch. That must have taken some time. League win & Champions league win should probably be the same points.

Ok I'll Make the CL the same as EC I'll up the UEFA to 10,5,3. I'll leave the rest alone. I'll leave this open for the weekend for anymore suggestions.

My opinion? There should be more points for the knockout competitions. In a league you can recover from a few bad results, in a cup you're OUT!

In a cup you can be lucky, in a league you have to be consistently good.

Or unlucky. Are you saying you can't be lucky in a league?

Overall, no. I don't think you can say a team has been 'lucky' to win the league title. Luck will play its part, as it will do in every single game of football, but it is far easier to benifit hugely from good luck in a Cup than in a league. Look at Porto winning the Champions League. Had it not been for a terrible decision from the linesman in the second leg against United they would have been out - but they got lucky and went on to win it. Obvioulsy, them winning the CL was not all down to luck but it played a big role in it imo. Also, you can have an easy run to the final with regards who you get drawn against, or the 'big guns' could be drawn against each other thus reducing the number of big teams able to win the cup.

To win the league you have to be consistently better then every other side over the course of an entire season. Especially in todays game - the margin for error in the premiership is getting smaller and smaller.

Be interesting if someone could do that for our own league.

I'll try and do that next, won't have to worry about the European competitions for that, any idea where I can get EL tables?

The difficulty of qualifying is already reflected by the points granted for league positions. The point is that if you qualified for the old European Cup it was easier to win. Your already getting 15 points for winning the league. i.e for qualifying, whereas you may only be getting 5 points for qualifying for Champions League....

Be interstesing to see how the Utd fans will suggest point changes to "amend" the above table. I personally feel any European Cup Winners Cup won between 1970 and 1970 should get an additional 587 points. Fair play Patmac, that must have taken a while, makes intersting reading.

Isn't there a wiki page with something similair on it (not saying it was robbed!)

It doesn't matter what way you calculate the points - Liverpool will always come out on top! :pac:

    Mike.

In that list you put put up there it says Man Utd were in 2 SF apart of course the 2 times they won. Was it not 3? Borussia Dortmund in 98, Leverkuson in 2002 and Milan last year?

No english clubs would have gotten any points until Man U won it in 98/99.

    Well done Patmac, seriously impressive!

Bit depressing to see Man U catching pool though...

United were quarter finalists in 97 and semi finalists in 98. Dunno if they got any points for that
