Just before anyone else gets in, let me get this out of the way so the grownups can talk -

    Armalites suck.
    AK's suck.
    Scars suck.

Best performer so far my JG G36c

I have high hopes for my newly acquired Sig 552 as well.

TM Famas ... simply a great piece. Utterly n00b proof, terrifying rate of fire and a long barrel giving decent range and accuracy.

ICS M4 ... split level gear box, aluminium body, forward assist actually does something. Just an all round tasty piece of kit.

KSC 1911A1 ... Solid, classic, punchy. (The WE is also pretty nifty)

VFC AK74SU ... just ask Fiach.

KSC Mac-11 ... its finicky, its stupid, its utterly pointless ... but goddamn its fun.

Tanaka M40 ... Its a gas powered sniper rifle so it shouldnt be considered reliable. But. It is incredibly nice to use and its accuracy and range are spot on. The PCS doesnt hurt either.

TM VSR-10 ... cheap, cheerful and reliable. The little springer that could.

CA G36 ... The sexiest modern compact rifle out there. Solid performance and hefty. Alvin T. is especially fond of his ... a little too fond some might say.

Tm FN-P90 ... not just for Stargate fans. Long barrel, high rate of fire, easy to maintain and decent range. The Profile of the P90 is superb for CQB while the range and accuracy make it a usualbe field piece.

KJW Glock 23 ... heavy, metal slide, decent recoil for a clone and 2-3 mags out of a single fill. Nifty. (Shame about the low power)

... thats what I have liked out of what I have used.

TM SR-16 - Great all round, decent price, large stock means large battery, its an M4 so loads of upgrade parts available, TM build Quality. My first AEG and by far my Fav

TM Glock 17 - great quality, looks great and shoots even better

Up until I got my TM Type 89 I thought nothing would touch my CA M15A4 rifle....but the Type 89 is a little beauty.

Myth, my baby is a monster, a highly reliable gas powered BB flinging monster. Just wait till it makes its appearance at G-Tac :D

As of this moment my favourite AEG is my TM M733, in the morning it might be my M16VN or..... well anything really I'm fickle :D

CA G36 (all variants) - I've used all types going and I just love this. Stable, powerful and looks bloody good to boot. More additional parts out there than you might imagine too. Stunning piece of kit. The only drawback is the mags are quite big. But, there's a magwell conversion kit to STANAG. Sorted. Can't beat it.

I must say nakedex and shiva, ye have a nice bit of kit in those aegs

There are several rifles I could recommend, but from personal experience, none higher than a G36. It even comes in any format you need. From SMG to LSW

Ya, i might take a closer look at G36`s, i sold the rest of my gear so I could build up a new set, already got my secondary, a Galaxy MP5, beauty!!!!:D

    Steyr AUG A1

Works straight out of the box and it really doesn't need much in the way of extras. Scope does the trick rather nicely considering a) you're using an AEG and b) it'll take a knocking. The AEG itself is incredibly versatile and is short enough for CQB work, yet long enough for outdoor engagements. Finally, the weighting is fantastic and the Steyr will fit snugly against the crook of your arm and not make you feel like you're straining to hold it with one hand if need be.

    M60A1

Ok, was anyone surprised I picked this? It's iconic, it's intimidating, it is loud, and it is oh-so-f*cking angry sounding. Not to mention it allows for many film-line quotes; particularly from Full-Metal Jacket :D

It's just so much fun to play a game with!

It's an AEC. An automatic electric cannon.

Another vote for the G36 from me. great range and ROF compared to most others and even from the JG clone you get a 6.04 barrel with it. its a very comfortable rifle to use and is handy with the folding stock and ambidextrous selector. also one of the easiest to strip down, ive just finished fitting bearing bushes and new shims in mine a few mins ago., :)

How can you say the mags being big is a drawback?

My favourite AEG at the moment would be my TM G36C
Just a sturdy piece of beauty and the folding stock on it makes it alot of fun.
The attachable magazines is handy too although the connectors are a bit flimsy if ya drop them.

My Favourite Bolt action sniper would have to be a Tanaka M40 lovely study build and really reliable.
Not in possesion of one but I might have to be in the future hehe

We are kinda going off topic
    Sorry Guys

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Masada

im the same, dont use much ammo really.,

also in the list i suppose M4s would have to be in there due to the amount of extras available for them, much more than any other AEG., the CA sportline is pretty good, it comes standard with a high torque motor and decent barrel. for the money its a great performer and the ROF is better than any M4 ive seen yet., it well out performs the Dboys ones., The galaxy MP5 is very handy due to the size of the thing and yet still have decent firepower but the hopup adjustment is a bit of a silly design and gets on my nerves since it loosens after a bit of use from the vibration.,

Ah tony is full a balony.

    Hates armalites?

He has an m15 and a hk 416, just as long as its not an m16 or m4 he gets to feel special! :D
Edit: ooh ooh, and a tm m4 knights :p

And that gilded 45 and a hi-capa? Dubious taste ;):p

Best aeg, that Jing Gong aug is fantastic, compared it to a CA and there is f all difference, bar the scope being not assembled correctly on some, but thats fixable. Other wise its great.

Jg g36c is very good, nothing but good things are said about them.

And my own, dboys m4, a workhorse, running it on 9.6, dropping it, hitting it, filling it with mud, very reliable and tough so far.

And everyone continues to h8 on Teh AK, go for it, more for me ;)

Hell Yeah. Aug All the way. Very simply put:

First AEG to acheive Airsoft International's TOP GUN Award(30/30)
A Primary weapon of the Defence Forces (PDF)
BULLPUP(Same barell lenght as an M14 but 1/3 shorter)
    Comes with a scope.
    Easy to fit batterie
    Great ROF
Looks damn cool(Dont try and deny it)

You cant go wrong with an AUG.

HK G3 SG1 - long range, accuracy, high ROF

Plus I own one, what more of an endorsement do you need?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 311 ✭✭NakedHedgehog

First ones that I've had so far (before my absolute favourite came along).

TM SR-16 (now custom built M4). My first. Bought it second hand and to be honest I hated it the second I got it. It had a wobble, it felt plastic (duh) and was just overall a piece of ****. I'd never buy it again. However, the gearbox was reliable so I kept it and it's now in my custom built M4, which is my second favourite AEG.

TM G36. Was lovely. It's a top notch AEG. Great gearbox, compact, feels nice and chunky. My only complaint here was the pain in the arse magazines (which in themselves are a great design and look the business). The notches aren't as rubbust as they should be and are prone to fall off. It's also extremely difficult to find mag-pouches that actually fit two of these comfortably without having to shave off the notches.

Now to my number one favourite of all times:
My Systema PTW M4 CQBR MAX. This is by the far best AEG I have and probably will ever own. It's excellent in every aspect and you just have to love how you can switch it rom a CBQR M4 to an SR-25-like (or any other type of Armalite upper-receiver) rifle within 30-40 seconds.
I'm not sure why it took me so long to buy one, but the warning was true: Once you get a PTW, you wont need anything else.
(I'll stop raving on about it now).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

you actually bought a PTW? fair play man, that must have set you back a few quid :)

my personal favourite aeg.... definitely the TM p90

small and light but with the same length barrel as an m4
can be used with just one hand (provide covering fire for yourself while advancing)
300 round hi-cap mag that only needs to be wound once at the start
300 round hi-cap THAT DOESNT RATTLE!!!
great range and rate of fire with the simplest of upgrades (1J spring, 9.6v battery)

the only downside you will encounter is the size of the mags, but i now carry mine in a dump pouch and find this to be an excellent solution

Jammy git :) How much did it set you back ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 311 ✭✭NakedHedgehog

The PTW itself cost about 700ish (second hand, but hardly used).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

thats not too bad, i'd consider getting one eventually myself, just for the ultra-realism factor, its stops firing when the mag is empty etc.. doesnt it?

and you have to actually pull back the charging handle when inserting a new mag?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,458 ✭✭✭✭gandalf

Well the one AEG I keep coming back to is the dBoys M4a1, its not too long, great RoF and very accurate, apart from one issue with the clip for the sling snapping off its been very reliable for skirmishing.

Also added to that the Galaxy MP5 PDW, a great secondary weap. With the buttstock folded it can be slung around your back and easily deployed when you run out of ammo on the main AEG :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 311 ✭✭NakedHedgehog

I'd buy it at full price if I had to now.
The trigger is blocked when the mag is empty, correct.
To reload, you stick the mag in and press in the bolt-release (the little paddle thing on the magwell).

The charging handle is only used to pull out the cylinder.

The PTW I bought also has a real-steel (KAC) RASII.
So the actual price for it was more than 700. That's the thing I like about it. You can buy real-steel parts and they work easily with the PTW.
I've also got another upper receiver to switch it into an SR-25 (minus the semi-auto only) - so a PTW upper receiver plus a RAS floating barrel.
To switch it all I have to do is open the upper receiver, pull out the pins, slide in the new upper, slot in the pins and slam it down again. In less than a minute it's changed.

    +1 for the JG G36C
Solid and compact with a great RoF right out of the box
Completely confidence inspiring during a skirmish
And at its price definitely the best bang for you buck

    sounds like heaven...

there is a load of them on WGC at the moment

Out of all the aegs I've used (2) the Thompson I got is by far the best. The other one I used was a rental MP5 and it pretty much sucked.

The design of the gun itself is great it's very easy to look down the sights due to the stock being below the gun as compared to modern guns where the stock comes straight out the back. Everything about the gun is simple and straight forward. The biggest problem is the mags don't fit into any modern pockets. There longer than all modern guns including mp5 so carrying them around is near impossible.

It's only had about 500 bbs put through it and it seems very accurate but I'm new to all this so I don't really know and my other two guns are gas powered so I've little or no reference to work off.

    Lemme see.......

The CA HK G36c is little beast. It's ballance ergonomics, reliability, power, ROF are all bloody good. You can get better, obviously, but not all in the same package. Contrary to popular belief, it outstrips the TM and JG versions. However the difference is reflected in the price.
    Worth it though.

The HK 416 from VFC is a bit of an unknown at the moment, but from the build quality and a few shots, it's shaping up to be an exceptional AEG. I'll get back to that after it's been skirmished a couple of times. Like it's real steel cousin, it leaves Armalites Wayyyyy behiend.

    And it's not an Armalite.

However, my baby has to be the CA MP5A5. It's ROF at 14 out of the box, is not to be sneezed at, it carries it's weight in terms or range and accuracy. The flashlight is a cool gimmick, the hop up is rock solid and completely Muppet proof. It's compact enough to use as a sub, and the extendable stock almost doubles it's lenght for longer range engagements. I've had it for a year, put about 30,000 BB through it, and I couldn't tell you what the insides look like.
I never needed to go there.
So that's it for reliability. Did I mention that it can perform the "HK Slap"....

    Pistols...
Well you can't go far wrong with a 1911.
I'm in two minds about this. The Umarex R-Type I have is a beauty in terms of power and accuracy. With Propane it's on the Joule or there abouts depending on the day. But it's a bloody elephant to hump around a swampy field.

Enter the KSC 1911A1. You need to be able to carry a pistol before you can skirmish it. This means that the GBB has to be light enough not to slow you down, ballanced enough not to be uncomfortable to shoot, and powerfull enough to pop BBs out at more or less the same range as some of the AEGs.
Oh, and cheap enough so you don't have to worry about replacing spare mags.
The KSC/WE 1911 is all of that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

For those who recoiled in horror and confusion about why I said G36 mags being bigger are a drawback, this is why.

*STANAG mags are very common so asking for a mag in a shootout is not an act of futility.
*Two G36 mags coupled together with those natty little locking points they have (I really love those) are still bigger than THREE STANAG mags.
*Not only does this mean it's bulky to carry, it means you need double the number of pouches on your vest as very, very few companies produce double G36 mag pouches.
*You will only fit ONE G36 mag into a double STANAG pouch.
*Mid-cap G36 mags look fugly. They're only available in matt black (which don't exist in RS) or translucent but empty (which just look wrong). The Lo-caps are only 50rnd, with the G36's rate of fire, that's nothing. The hi-caps rattle like a sandblasting machine on an unbalanced floor. You can be heard coming from a country mile away.

Now this is coming from someone who loves thier G36k rather a lot. I love it and I'm not gonna stop using it. I'm also not getting the STANAG magwell adaptor because I think STANAGs in a G36 look bloody awful.
The only advantages of the G36 mags are:

*Those locking lugs are a God-send for coupling mags.
*Their size and the base plate size makes changing mags and general handling of them a lot handier than the STANAG or any other type. Particularly if you're wearing gloves.

personally my favourite AEG is the Galaxy Mp5, simply because(1) its my first AEG everything before that was snipers.
    (2) its so compact but still packs a punch.
I am going to use this as my secondary weapon and the reason i created this thread was to see what you guys thought about certain models of your own, so i could use that knowlegde and get my self a good`en.
    Keep em coming.:D
