I am definately watching the first one. I don't think it will be as good as it could be.

    and a question.

Would you really want to be the only man in a whole country not packing some heat??? I would not feel safe without at LEAST an AK74 and plenty of ammo for it.

He's safe as fcuk, They all know he's Grant Mitchell, nobody's gonna mess wit him, He'll bottle them or biff them round a bit, or get shouty,
also he's filming, not invading, so I doubt the Mujaheddin will be out to get him, and they aren't really known for their "collateral damage" are they?

    Hahahaha, he is well 'ard!

Anyway, he is hanging with the Anglians. They maybe a county regiment but they gave the Taliban a pasting during their time in A-stan!

Anyone see the Green Berets documentry on Discovery on Wed night? They where travelling around with them filming. Where going on a night observation/ambush and when they got to the area they had to clear loads of IEDs. They missed one and 2 US soldiers where killed and some more wounded with the Discovery film crew also injured.

So I doubt they'd be afraid of an over paid actor and from what the Discovery/US army people where saying nowhere is safe over there.

It was Inside the Green Berets on National Geographic as Abuses Toilets said. Get them channels confused. Only good thing is they repeat like mad on them so should be back on.

They had a full team of Green Berets and Afgan army also. Still went to hell.

I caught the first episode of Kemp in Astan on Sky any time. I have to say it's really good, the first episode is the few months prior to the tour of duty and looking at how the soliders are gearing up about heading into the theatre. It also looks at the family side of things and how the soldiers family deal with him going away.

Also he was worried himself about getting in the way when they come into contact with enemy forces and the CO of The Vikings made sure that Kemp and the crew were able to use an SA80. When he fired it on the ranges it wasn't zero'd either because if he had to pick up one in the field it won't be zero'd.

You see no combat in the first episode but definately one to follow...

I really liked it, as i liked his gang series.

Also the part about him being the last man standing, If that happens maybe he'll go "ultimate force" and kill all taleban

But it will be good to see the rest of the episodes.

It was good, but it will do well to beat the series on gangs.

It's a good show. I couldnt believe when I saw that 18 year old lad. He is so young. He looked like a boy when it first showed him in England. hen it showed him about to leave Afghanistan he looked much older.

It was interesting but somehow I don't think it will compare to Chris Terrill's experiences with the Royal Marines. He got an honourary green beret and went into action with the Marines, no crew just him and a camera. Hard to beat that documentary.

Have to agree with you there cp251 Chris Terrill best docu series of 2007 if you ask me..I like Ross Kemp and hopefully his series will be a close second to the Commando series.

damn missed it tonight... it'll be on youTube.

I watched that 'Commando' documentary though. Excellent stuff. Really interesting once they go to Afghanistan especially.

Excellent episode. He really does get into the thick of it. I wonder is he jeapordising the safety of the soldiers. I presume not, they obviously had it well planned and thought through before he was allowed to go.

    Enjoyed that!

Episode repeated last night on Sky1 at 11PM. Kemp seemed very scared,as you would be,fair play to him and any other journalist doing that out there. As he said himself his blue helmet and plain fatigues make him stand out amongst the camoed troopers.
Lots of small arms fire and the odd whoosh of what I presume was an RPG. One scene had him lying awkwardly on ground with trooper firing SA80 about 3-4 about his head.
Later he points points out the (2 foot diameter)impacts of .30 cal Apache cannon fire on the mud wall of one of the compounds,it didn't penetrate, now thats is solidly built. (I assume the mud rapidly absorbed and dissipated the energy of the round and stops it)

Am currently reading a book on the 2 Para tour in the same place during summer 2006 (Camp Bastion, Green zone, Sangin etc) Very interesting to actually see the places mentioned in the book.

Would like to see that Chris Tirell doc. "Commandos" you say? Saw a bit of the Green Beret National Geo as well. Enjoyed it.

Commandos is on this site mate
    http://www.youtube.com/user/oddball71

It's just called 'Commando 1 1/4' (for example). I watched it the other day, excellent stuff. Gets really good once he goes to Afghanistan

    2 Para.

Not normally a fan of war books but when the Sunday Times had it on there highly recommended spot three weeks in a row I said I would try it

    excellent book

It was actually 3 PARA Battlegroup out there in 2006 as part of 16 Air Assault Brigade

Heres some footage of 3 Para Battlegroup/ Royal Irish in Sangin.

The reason they sound so edgy is because they were nearly out of ammo and incoming fire was so heavy they could not be resupplied, they had to call in airstrikes to keep the Taliban at bay.

I didn't hear any incoming or impacting rounds in any of that.

That was the end of one of many ongoing firefights. Sangin FOB was under attack consistently throughout the tour including from suicide bombers in vehicles. The Incoming rounds were hitting the sandbags or going above them, they are on a rooftop firing down.

"As of summer 2006, British and Canadian troops have established a forward operating base on the outskirts of the town and are engaged in heavy fighting with Taliban insurgents and allied opium traffickers. A number of British and Canadian troops were killed during fighting in the town, including Cpl Bryan Budd (3 PARA) who was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross."

Heres a better one, bar the crap music.
